The rail freight company in the United Kingdom, GB Railfreight has launched a new intermodal rail freight service connecting the Port of Felixstowe with the Birch Coppice terminal in the Midlands.The first locomotive on the service left Birch Coppice at 14:14 on 23 January 2019 and arrived at Felixstowe at 20:14, having passed through Hams Hall, Leicester, Peterborough and Ipswich along the way. Made up of 33 platforms, the service transports a mixture of intermodal containers, and will initially run 5 days a week.Commenting on the new service, Clemence Cheng, Chief Executive Officer at the Port of Felixstowe and Executive Director of Hutchison Ports, said: "We are delighted to welcome this latest service offering from GB Railfreight.

West Calcasieu Port officials announced today that the port has completed the $1.5 million purchase of 11.5 acres of adjacent property to the facility on the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway. Hohensee noted that the port expansion would not have been possible without the financial assistance via a $750,000 capital outlay grant from the Louisiana State Legislature. “Most of the credit for procuring the capital outlay grant goes to Sen. John Smith, Sen. Ronnie Johns, Rep. Mike Danahay and the rest of our Southwest Louisiana delegation,” he added. “We believe these elected officials recognize the importance of the port expansion to our regional economic growth.

Ceona, a London-based SURF contractor with deep-water subsea construction capabilities, has announced that the company's executive vice president commercial and business development, Mark Preece, has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer (CEO). According to the press release, Mark takes over from current CEO, Steve Preston, who after 40 years in the industry has decided to retire from operational management and step down. Steve has worked tirelessly to establish Ceona as a key subsea player over the last three years, having been a prime mover and overseeing the construction of the company's purpose-built flagship, Ceona Amazon. Ceona is a SURF and heavy subsea construction contractor in the deep-water market…

Monitoring efforts along the Pacific Coast of the U.S. and Canada have detected the presence of small amounts of radioactivity from the 2011 Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant accident 100 miles (150 km) due west of Eureka, California. Scientists at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) found the trace amounts of telltale radioactive compounds as part of their ongoing monitoring of natural and human sources of radioactivity in the ocean. In the aftermath of the 2011 tsunami off Japan, the Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant released cesium-134 and other radioactive elements into the ocean at unprecedented levels. Since then, the radioactive plume has traveled west across the Pacific, propelled largely by ocean currents and being diluted along the way.

UK-based Ceona contract with Lloyd Werft for the construction of a new multi-purpose offshore vessel, the 'Ceona Amazon'. The Ceona Amazon, based on a drill-ship design, is SPS compliant and equipped with a DP2 system. It will be especially well-suited for operations in remote and challenging locations and capable of laying rigid or flexible pipelines and umbilicals. Ceona has finalised its agreement with Lloyd Werft for the construction of a new high-capacity vessel, the Ceona Amazon, at a signing ceremony in Bremerhaven. Members of the Ceona management team, led by CEO Steve Preston and Chairman John Smith, were joined by a representative from majority shareholder Goldman Sachs Capital Partners, at the contract signing with Lloyd Werft at the Bremerhaven, German shipyard.

Offshore Installation Group said that Steve Preston will join the company in the position of Chief Executive Officer and John Smith will join the company as Executive Vice Chairman. Both Steve and John will take up their positions in  March 2012. Preston joins OIG from Heerema Marine Contractors where he has been Executive Vice President, Commercial & Technology for the past 12 years responsible for the Group’s worldwide commercial and business development activities. Steve  brings over 35 years industry experience to OIG with a strong background in commercial negotiations, engineering and project management. Steve is a past President and active board member of the International Marine Contractors  Association.

The NOAA Chesapeake Bay Office will deploy a “smart buoy” at the mouth of the to take observations of the Bay's changing conditions. A part of the Chesapeake Bay Interpretive Buoy System (CBIBS), this is the fourth interpretative buoy to mark the Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail. The buoy will be deployed off Stingray Point, near , to mark the 400th anniversary of Captain John Smith's exploration of the region. In July 1608, while using a sword to fish in shallow waters near the mouth of the , Smith was stung by a stingray and nearly died. The buoy collects weather, oceanographic and water-quality observations and transmits this data wirelessly in near-real time.

Subsea 7, the new company formed as a result of the combination of Halliburton Subsea, a business unit of Halliburton's Energy Services Group, and the subsea activities of DSND Subsea ASA (OSE:SFJ), officially started trading. The company already has a worldwide order book in excess of $800 million, firmly establishing it as a global service provider for subsea engineering and construction, and is poised to win additional business from projects it is currently bidding. The company was formed by the two parties contributing all tangible assets associated with their subsea businesses as well as leases, on-going contracts and intellectual property. It will have offshore operations supported out of the UK, Norway, Singapore, Brazil, United States and the Caspian.
