CP Ships Restructures Executive Ranks

Following the appointment of Frank Halliwell as CEO by the Board of Directors in early May, CP Ships announced a restructured executive management team. Alan Boylan is joining CP Ships as Executive Vice President Commercial for Montreal Gateway, Australasia and Middle East/India. He was previously Senior Vice President responsible for ocean freight activities at Exel, the global logistics company. He joined the shipping industry in 1974 as a marine economist with Ocean Transport & Trading, an Exel predecessor company. He will be based in Gatwick, UK. Juan Manuel Gonzalez has been promoted to EVP Commercial for Americas-Pacific and Gulf/Atlantic. He was formerly Senior Vice President Americas-Pacific. He is based in Tampa, Florida.

CP Ships to Double Frequency

CP Ships Limited today announced that one year after launching fortnightly service between Asia and Australia, it plans to double the frequency to weekly through a vessel sharing agreement with Yantai Marine (SYMS). "The agreement with Yantai Marine enables us to build on the success of our first Asia-Australia service efficiently, without adding additional tonnage of our own," commented Juan Manuel Gonzalez, Executive Vice President. Start-up of the joint service is expected in early August with CP Ships and Yantai Marine each contributing two 1700 teu ships. The port rotation will be Chiwan, Hong Kong, Ningbo, Shanghai, Sydney, Brisbane with connections to CP Ships networks in Asia. At 11 days, the transit time between Shanghai and Sydney will be one of the fastest available.

Hapag-Lloyd Expands

In line with its integration of CP Ships, Hapag-Lloyd is enlarging its globally standardized organization from three to five regions. The management will also be expanded accordingly with the inclusion of CP Ships executives Juan Manuel Gonzalez, Glenn Hards and Alan Boylan, all of whom will become members of the executive body of Hapag-Lloyd Container Line (Excom). Hapag-Lloyd, based in Hamburg, currently manages its business from three region headquarters: Hamburg (for Europe), Singapore (for Asia and Australasia) and New York (for America). After acquiring CP Ships at the end of last year, Hapag-Lloyd is now setting up two new regions: "South Europe," based in Genoa, and "Latin America," based in Tampa, Florida.

CP Ships Deploys Two New Ships

CP Ships Limited said that the first two of nine 4250 teu ships ordered two years ago will be deployed in its US East Coast-Indian Sub-Continent service. They will be named after two of India's most popular national parks, Kanha and Corbett. coming in early January 2006. They will replace smaller, slower and more costly short-term chartered ships. "We have been looking forward to the first of our new ships. They give us the opportunity to confirm to customers our commitment to this service, improve transit times, leave room for growth and enable us to operate the service more efficiently. Because of the dramatic rise in charter prices since these ships were ordered, we have no doubt that we made the right decision in 2003," said Juan Manuel Gonzalez, Executive Vice President.

TMM Guanajuato Joins Fleet

TMM Lines has taken delivery of the 3,200teu TMM Guanajuato. It was built by China Shipbuilding Corporation in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.The TMM Guanajuato is a sister ship of the TMM Colima which was delivered to the line in October. A third sister ship, the TMM Yucatan, is due for delivery in January 2003.The new ships are all part of the TMM Lines strategy to constantly upgrade its equipment, especially its container and ship fleets. Six New Ships on TMM Lines’ Transpacific Service

The deployment of the 4,050teu Aguascalientes on the Mexico-Asia Premier service completes TMM's newbuild program on the transpacific. The ship, on long-term charter, joins the TMM Monterrey and four other sister ships on the weekly Mexico-Asia Premier service. It is the last of the series of newbuilds, both owned and chartered, which we have taken delivery of in the last 18 months. The 3,200 teu TMM Yucatan, TMM Colima and TMM Guanajuato, all owned ships, were built at the China Shipbuilding Corp in Kaohsiung, and are now deployed on the Gulf-Mexico-Americas service, also operating weekly. Senior Vice President Juan Manuel Gonzalez says the new ships are an integral part of our plans to improve services. The ships are named after Mexican states, reflecting the birthplace of TMM Lines.
