Kongsberg Maritime has won a contract to upgrade the propulsion systems on five ro-ro passenger ferries for Italian operator Moby. The vessel upgrades will together reduce CO2 emissions by more than 30,000 tons per year.Moby operates a fleet of ro-ro passenger ferries, operating in the western Mediterranean, including routes between the Italian mainland, Sicily, and Sardinia.Three of the ships, the Moby Vinci, the Sharden, and the Moby Aki, will all receive a Promas Lite propulsion system, which combines rudder and propeller into one propulsion unit.

Norway's Kongsberg Maritime has secured a contract to supply its Kamewa waterjets for two fast ferries to be built by Singapore's Penguin Shipyard for a Middle East client. Norway's Kongsberg Maritime has won an order for six sets of controllable pitch propeller systems from South Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries for installation in six new 94-meter offshore patrol vessels for the Philippine Navy.Each propulsion set will consist of twin Kongsberg Kamewa Controllable Pitch Propeller (CPP) 86 A/5 D-B systems, as well as shaft lines, hydraulic power units, local operating panels, and accessories. The first shipset will be delivered in August 2024.The six new offshore patrol vessels (OPVs) are part of a major upgrade to Philippine naval capacity.

Shipbuilder Nichols Brothers Boat Builders (NBBB) said it has delivered the second of two 255-passenger-only ferries to Kitsap Transit of Bremerton, Wash. Like the first-in-class-vessel the Enetai, the Commander outperformed design expectations during vessel trials, delivering to Kitsap Transit a lighter, faster, and smoother riding vessel, the builder said. Kitsap Transit awarded a design and construction contract to Nichols Brothers Boat Builders for two new ferries in December 2018.

Shipbuilding group Austal announced its Austal Vietnam arm has delivered the new catamaran ferry Maria Galanta Express to Oceanoi Limited of Mauritius. Marine engineering design specialist Incat Crowther has been awarded the contract for the construction of a new vessel for New York and New Jersey ferry operator Seastreak.The new vessel will operate as a sister ship to the company’s Seastreak Commodore ferry, which was delivered to the company in June 2018, the success of this vessel enabling a second Incat Crowther 45 ferry to accommodate the large passenger volume along traditional routes serviced by Seastreak.The addition of the new vessel brings the operator’s fleet of Incat Crowther-designed vessels to a total of nine.

A pair of 39-meter multipurpose crew transfer vessels have been built by PT Bintang Timur Samudera in Indonesia and delivered to MH-O & Co to be operated for Orsted in its Hornsea Project One wind farm offshore England.According to designer Incat Crowther, the new vessels MHO Gurli and MHO Esbjerg are the largest wind farm support vessels to enter service to date anywhere in the world.
