State to Take Reins of Alaska LNG Project
Alaska Gasline Development Corp. President Keith Meyer says the Big 3 oil companies are cooperating with the state’s desire to take full ownership of the AK LNG Project. He laid out an ambitious list of “to-dos” the state needs to check off if it is going to lead the $55 billion Alaska LNG Project to fruition at a board of directors meeting. According to local media, ExxonMobil, BP and ConocoPhillips in recent months have signaled they may not all continue with the project amid the global slump in the price of oil and liquefied natural gas.
LNG America, Liquiline Partner for LNG Transport
LNG America and Liquiline announce an agreement to jointly develop commercial offerings for LNG marine fuel markets in the North American Pacific Northwest and the transport of LNG in ISO containers to remote markets in Hawaii and Alaska. Each party brings unique skills and experience to the joint initiative. Liquiline has pioneered the use of LNG ISO containers for LNG fuel markets in Northern Europe; LNG America is developing LNG distribution networks including America’s first Jones Act LNG bunker/shuttle vessels. Together, the joint effort will focus on the movement of LNG over long distance by ISO containers being moved by ship and the servicing of local markets by way of LNG bunker/shuttle vessels.
LNG America Selects ABS for LNG Bunker Barges
LNG America announces the selection of the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) as the classification society for North America’s first LNG bunker barges, currently being designed by Jensen Maritime. LNG America Selects Topside Designer for LNG Bunker Barge

LNG America, Buffalo Marine to Design LNG Bunker Fuel Network
LNG America announced it has entered an agreement with Buffalo Marine Service, Inc. (Buffalo Marine) to cooperate on the design of an LNG bunker fuel network for the U. S. Gulf Coast region. LNG America is developing a hub-and-spoke delivery system for LNG as fuel for the marine market and other high horsepower applications. Ultimately, LNG America will establish delivery infrastructure for the delivery of LNG as fuel in major U.S. ports. Bunkering company Buffalo Marine presently has more than 50 vessels dedicated to bunkering in the Gulf of Mexico region.
Jensen to Design LNG Bunker Barges
Houston-based LNG fuel supply and distribution company LNG America LLC announced today that it has contracted Jensen Maritime, Crowley Maritime Corp.'s Seattle-based naval architecture and marine engineering company, to design the initial bunker/shuttle barge for its U.S. Gulf Coast operations. Currently no LNG bunkering barges are in operation in American waterways, and these vessels will be among the first to be developed and built, marking a significant step in LNG America’s build-out of LNG bunkering infrastructure along the U.S.

Meyer Acquires Turku Shipyard
The Meyer family, operating the shipbuilding company Meyer Werft in Germany, and the Finnish State acquired Turku shipyard from STX Europe in September 2014. Meyer Werft took up 70 percent of the shares, and the State of Finland purchased 30 percent of the share capital through the Finnish Industry Investment Ltd (FII). As usual for the FII´s investment policy, it exits from its investments. In the case of the Turku shipyard, it was agreed that Meyer had a call option to buy FII’s minority stake in the shipyard. The Meyer Turku Oy yard in Turku, Finland, celebrated a historical day on October 10, 2014. Meyer Turku Oy, which officially changed ownership only three weeks earlier with the takeover by Papenburg, Germany cruise ship building power Meyer Werft, floated out the cruise ship Mein Schiff 4. Jan Meyer, the CEO of Meyer Turku Oy, and Wybcke Meier, the new CEO of TUI Cruises opened the valves to flood the dry dock. Gastro Outbreak on Ovation of the Seas
A gastro outbreak has affected nearly 200 passengers aboard one of the world’s largest cruise ships, Ovation of the Seas. The 168,666 GT cruise liner docked in Hobart on December 5 following a 14-night cruise from Singapore. Over the two weeks, 195 cases of gastro-intestinal illness were reported, the ship’s owner Royal Caribbean said in a statement. There are 5,824 people on board, including guests and crew. “Those affected by the short-lived illness were treated by our ship’s doctors with over-the-counter medication,” Royal Caribbean said.

Meyer Werft Buys Finland out of Turku Shipyard
Germany's family-owned Meyer Werft shipyard is buying the Finnish state out of Turku shipyard in southwestern Finland, the government said on Wednesday. Meyer Werft and the government last year bought the troubled shipyard from Korean trade and ship corporation STX, with the change of ownership helping the yard to win several orders. Tallink, Meyer Turku Ink LOI for New LNG Fast Ferry
The trend toward the procurement of high-spec, environmentally friendly vessels continues with news that AS Tallink Grupp and Meyer Turku Oy signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) for the construction of an environmentally friendly car-passenger ferry for Tallinn-Helsinki route shuttle operations. The ship will cost around $286 million and will be built at Turku shipyard for delivery in the beginning of 2017. The new ferry will be about 212 m long with a gross tonnage of 49 000. The ship will operate on the route between Helsinki and Tallinn and she is planned to carry 2800 passengers.

Meyer Turku Reports Larger 2016 Profit
Shipbuilder Meyer Turku reported a net profit of 25 million euros ($27.4 million), or 3.2 percent of revenue, in 2016, rising from 15 million euros ($16.5 million) in 2015. The Finish shipyard, which specializes in cruise ship and large passenger vessels, said it has seen been on a “good and economically sustainable path” since the Meyer family took ownership in 2014. Revenues rose 33 percent last year from 594 million euros ($651.5 million) in 2015 to 792 million euros ($868.7 million) in 2016.
