Gov. Bobby Jindal joined Globalstar Inc. CEO Peter Dalton, Globalstar Inc. Chairman Jay Monroe, Louisiana Economic Development Secretary Stephen Moret, St. Tammany Parish President Kevin Davis and Greater New Orleans Inc. President and CEO Michael Hecht to announce Globalstar will relocate its corporate headquarters to Covington, La., from Milpitas, Calif. Additionally, Globalstar will relocate a variety of other global business functions to Covington, including product development, finance, accounting, sales, marketing, corporate communications and customer care.

Boats and vessels sunk by Hurricane Katrina soon will be removed by the Coast Guard in 10 St. Tammany Parish waterways, according to Parish President Kevin Davis. The project by the Coast Guard will begin before the end of the month, he said, and will be limited to waterways defined as commercially navigable under federal codes. But it will result in sunken vessels and other debris being removed from major canals and streams that help drain the parish, Davis said. Davis said the Coast Guard has agreed to clear Salt Bayou, the Rigolets, the Pearl and Tchefuncte rivers, and bayous Liberty and Bonfouca. The Coast Guard also will unclog the North Shore, Geohagen, Oyster Factory and East Diversion canals, Davis said.

When a pilot learning to guide ships along the Mississippi River makes a mistake and crashes into a New Orleans wharf, the only thing that ends up damaged is his ego. That's because the mistakes happen in a ship simulator housed in an old movie theater in Covington, La. The $1 million simulator can place a pilot on the bridge of a ship anywhere along the river between the mouth of the Mississippi and Baton Rouge. Scenes projected on the walls of the simulator, located in what once was the old DeLuxe movie theater in downtown Covington across Lake Pontchartrain from New Orleans, accurately depict every aspect of the 240 miles of waterway.
