Blast Injures 10 Near Grain Silos at Turkish Port
At least 10 people were injured on Monday when an explosion rocked grain silos near the port of Derince in western Turkey, prompting an investigation into its cause, Kocaeli Governor Seddar Yavuz said.An explosion occurred around 2:40 p.m.
Ecospeed Coatings Chosen for Russian Icegoing Tug Pair
Three years ago, an Ecospeed hull coating was applied on Antarctic, a shallow draft anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessel owned by Ark Shipping Company. The success of this application led the vessel's owner to order the same protection for its next two shallow draught AHTS vessels: Polar and Polus. Building of these vessels will start in 2021 and will again take place at the Atlas Shipyard in Kocaeli, Turkey.Ark Shipping is a Russian river and sea shipping company that has been operating in the transport and logistics market since 1992.
UZMAR Joins Robert Allan Century Club
UZMAR SHIPYARD of Turkey has officially joined the Robert Allan Ltd. Century Club, with construction underway on its 100th tug to a Robert Allan Ltd. design. This new tug is a RAstar 3200-W destined for service on Canada’s West Coast with SAAM-SMIT Canada. This milestone tug, expected to be delivered in early 2019, represents the state-of-the-art in the design and construction of ASD escort tugs in a sub-500 GRT hull. With its RAstar hull and deep skeg, the design is optimized for generating high indirect escort forces and is also capable of providing towing operations from the stern. The tug features gas detection, explosion-proof deck equipment, off-ship fire-fighting capability, and one of the first applications of an IMO Tier III emissions compliant propulsion package on a tug.
Migrant Boat Sinks off Turkish Coast, Four Dead
Four people drowned when a fishing boat carrying migrants sank off the Turkish coast in the Marmara Sea on Friday, the coast guard said in a statement. The boat sank off the northwestern province of Kocaeli shortly after calling for help. The statement said 38 migrants were rescued. The coastguard was seeking 15 to 20 others and was being assisted by two helicopters, planes and commercial boats. The origin of the migrants and their destination was not immediately clear.
