New Orleans-based Laborde Marine said Thursday it had acquired two 240-foot (73.15m) deepwater DP-2 offshore supply vessels from L&M Botruc Rental, Inc. and has expanded its fleet of managed vessels. The company said that SOLAS-certified Shelley Lab and Gibson Lab vessels would support deepwater activities in the Gulf of Mexico.One of the vessels is currently operating under contract, while the other is completing routine shipyard inspections and maintenance prior to becoming available for energy industry support later this month.

New Orleans-based offshore oil industry service provider Laborde Marine Management  announced that Ashton P. Laborde has been appointed as President of the Company effective January 1, 2019. Laborde joined the Company in 2007 and most recently served as Director of Marketing. Throughout his career at Laborde Marine, Ashton has held various positions of increasing importance in operations. The marine company which owns or operates a fleet of 25 vessels also annouced that  John Peter Laborde, III, has joined the Company as Director of Finance. Gulf of Mexico vessel operators want to see sustained, higher oil prices. After a rough two years, supply boat owners and operators in the Gulf of Mexico hope crude oil prices will improve in 2017. That would encourage activity among the offshore drillers that they service and would put unemployed boats back in the water. Vessel owners aren’t necessarily banking on a good year ahead, however. “Utilization of OSVs and PSVs in the Gulf is below 50 percent now, down from about 70 percent a year ago and 90 percent two years ago…

GE Capital, Corporate Finance has announced that it provided US$22.5-million in equipment financing to Laborde Marine. The funds refinance existing debt used to purchase five new crew boats. Founded in 1995 and headquartered in New Orleans, LA, Laborde Marine is a privately held supplier that provides marine support to the offshore oil and gas industry internationally. They operate more than 20 vessels in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico and have two international offices in Brazil. “GE Capital delivered the financing we need to fund the ongoing expansion of our fleet and customer base,” said Cliffe Laborde, managing member of Laborde Marine.

Laborde Products was selected as Vapor Power International Marine Distributor for the North American marine markets. The announcement was made at the 2013 International WorkBoat Show. "The Vapor Power heaters really complement our growing position in the inland tank barge industry," said Doug Oehrlein, Laborde Products' VP sales & marketing. "The Mitsubishi powered mechanical tank barge power units and the Vapor Power heaters are the right product for our heater barge customers," said Oehrlein. Chris Cerullo, Laborde's marine manager.

As seen in the August edition of MarineNews, Susan Buchanan updates readers on the GOM oil production situation. BP's gushing well was capped more than a year ago but life is hardly back to normal in the U.S. Gulf--where rigs and vessels remain underutilized. At least ten rigs have moved overseas since last summer. Gulf oil production is below pre-spill levels and won't recover anytime soon, analysts say. Issuance of drilling permits picked up this spring as operators agreed to use oil-containment systems but permitting lags earlier rates.

VT Halter Marine, Inc. (VT Halter Marine), a subsidiary of VT Systems, Inc. (VT Systems), announced the appointment of Cliffe F. Laborde to its Board of Directors. Laborde is owner and co-manager of Laborde Marine Services, LLC and Laborde Brothers Crewboats, LLC. These companies own and operate platform supply vessels and crewboats that service the offshore energy sector. Laborde previously held the position of Executive Vice President, General Counsel, and Secretary to Tidewater, Inc. until June 2007. Prior to his appointment at Tidewater, Laborde was one of four founding partners of the firm Gelpi, Sullivan, Carroll & Laborde, where his practice primarily involved maritime defense litigation.
