PGS, TGS in Canada 3D Shoot

TGS-NOPEC Geophysical Company (TGS) and Norwegian marine seismic specialist Petroleum Geo-Services (PGS) announced the Torngat 3D multi-client project in Offshore East Canada.Torngat 3D will cover approximately 3,287 km2 and encompasses sections of the open acreage included in the Labrador South November 2021 bid round, said a press release from TGS, provider of multi-client geoscience data to oil and gas Exploration and Production companies worldwide.PGS’ Ramform Titan will perform the acquisition, utilizing Geostreamer technology. Developing the capability to discriminate between ships and icebergs in northern latitudes is a common interest shared by Canada’s Department of National Defense (DND) and the oil and gas industry. TGS, PGS Team Up on Eastern Canada Seismic

TGS announces the expansion of its multi-client library offshore Eastern Canada with plans to acquire more than 36,000 km of 2D seismic data, in partnership with PGS, utilizing two vessels during the 2016 acquisition season. The M/V Sanco Spirit and M/V Atlantic Explorer, utilizing the PGS GeoStreamer technology, will acquire seismic and gravity data in the Labrador Sea, Newfoundland Orphan-Flemish Pass basins and Grand Banks areas. Data acquisition will commence during late May 2016. Pre-processing of the initial GeoStreamer signal will be performed by PGS following which TGS will perform data processing with final data available to clients in Q3 2017.

PGS : Building Further Success in Newfoundland, Labrador

PGS has recently completed the fifth consecutive acquisition season offshore Newfoundland and Labrador as part of the ongoing joint venture (JV) with TGS. The successful 2015 season was the biggest yet with PGS operating four vessels, two 3D and two 2D vessels, all of them equipped with GeoStreamer, PGS' broadband technology. This season marked the commencement of the first MultiClient 3D programs to be acquired by the JV, as well as continued building of the regional MultiClient 2D library coverage. * Most 3D seismic ever acquired in a single season offshore Newfoundland and Labrador. The Ramform Valiant acquired 4 339 square kilometers over exploration block EL-1135 in the Flemish Pass basin.

Arctic Sea Ice Sets Record Low Extent at Winter Maximum

Arctic sea ice has set a new winter record by freezing over the smallest extent since satellite records began in 1979, in a new sign of long-term climate change, U.S. data showed on Thursday. The ice floating on the Arctic Ocean around the North Pole reached its maximum annual extent of just 14.54 million square kms (5.61 million sq miles) on Feb. 25 - slightly bigger than Canada - and is now expected to shrink with a spring thaw. CCGS Research Icebreaker Sails on 2013 Arctic Mission

The Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans wished bon voyage to Canadian Coast Guard crew members and scientists aboard the CCGS 'Amundsen' who will participate in the 2013 research mission in  the Canadian Arctic. "This year marks the 10th anniversary of the CCGS Amundsen, a state-of-the-art multidisciplinary research icebreaker," said Minister Shea. The CCGS Amundsen is one of the few Canadian icebreakers to have a dual purpose. In winter, she is assigned to the CCG icebreaking program whereas every summer, she is chartered by ArcticNet, a scientific consortium.

Ferries, Freighters, Cruise Useful in Oceanographic Research

As the 36,000-ton ferry Norröna makes its weekly trip from Denmark to Iceland, it not only carries a load of up to 1,500 passengers and 800 automobiles, it will also help scientists learn about the movement of warm and cold waters into and out of the Nordic seas. It is the latest among a small group of commercial vehicles that oceanographers are enlisting to aid in their research. The vessel is equipped with an instrument called an acoustic Doppler current profiler. The device measures the velocity of water moving beneath the ship – from the surface to as deep as 800 meters – by calculating the speed and direction of floating zooplankton.

WWII Vessel to Sail Again

A donation from EVAC Environmental firm will allow a World War II vessel that sailed 40 missions to France and England during WWII to sail again and serve as a museum ship for thousands of visitors across the country. The USS LST (Landing Ship Tank) 325, is one of only two WWII LST’s to be preserved in the United States. To bring it to standards that allow it to operate in U.S. waters, it must have a sewage treatment system on board. EVAC Environmental Solutions, 1260 Turret Dr., manufactures a marine sanitation device, called an ORCA, which treats sewage on board the vessel and discharges it overboard. The firm is donating the device to the USS LST 325, and on Thursday, August 15, 11:30 a.m., Capt.
