Danfoss Acquires Visedo

Danfoss said it has acquired Visedo Oy, expert in electric solutions for the off-highway and marine markets headquartered in Lappeenranta in Finland. “Acquiring new innovative technology is an important part of our investment in growth,” said Kim Fausing, Danfoss president and CEO. Visedo will be integrated into the Danfoss Power Solutions business segment. The acquisition includes all Visedo subsidiaries globally and a design and manufacturing site located at its headquarters in Lappeenranta.

Jamie Hyneman, best known as a co-host on Mythbusters, was recently in Finland to receive an Honorary Doctorate from Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT). While in Lappeenranta, Hyneman also had an opportunity to visit several of the region’s top technology companies with origins at LUT, including electrical drive train technology specialist The Switch, who says it has an installed base of over 13 GW of megawatt-class permanent magnet machine and power converter packages within the wind, marine and special industrial sectors.

Coast Guard Academy Cadet to Receive Fulbright Scholarship

Stephen Horvath, a first class cadet at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, was recently granted a two-year Fulbright Scholarship to study renewable energy technologies in Finland during the 2015-2016 academic year and the 2016-2017 academic year. Horvath, 21, will pursue a master’s degree at the Lappeenranta University of Technology in Lappeenranta, Finland. The mechanical engineering major plans to conduct a research project on methods for energy storage. Horvath’s research project will examine the conversion technologies used to store energy created from wind turbines and solar cells.
