Roger Holm to Lead New Wärtsilä Four-stroke Organization

Roger Holm, M.Sc. (Econ.), has been appointed Senior Vice President, four-stroke, and member of the Ship Power management team as of 1 September 2013. In this position, he is responsible for Wärtsilä's four-stroke activities globally. Mr. Holm joined Wärtsilä in 1997 and has held several managerial positions, most recently leading the Seals and Bearings organization within Wärtsilä Services. Before that he has had the positions of Vice President, Solutions Management and Vice President, Business Development, also within Services, and has worked as CIO for Wärtsilä Corporation.

Philip Maguire Appointed V-P Wärtsilä Quality

Wärtsilä’s group-wide quality programme and the quality organisation will become Mr. Maguire's responsibility from 1, Feb 2013. Mr Philip Maguire, BSc (Hons) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, will be a member of the Wärtsilä PowerTech management team and report to Lars Hellberg, President, Wärtsilä PowerTech. He succeeds Mr Osmo Härkönen who will retire at the end of January 2013. Mr Maguire joins Wärtsilä from Tetra Pak where, as Vice President, Quality, he developed and executed a quality acceleration programme.

Wärtsilä's Russian JV to Build Engine Production Facility

Wärtsilä TMH Diesel Engine Company LLC, a joint venture owned 50/50 by Wärtsilä and Transmashholding (TMH), is ready to start construction of a modern factory located in Penza, Russia. The new plant, which is expected to be ready to start production in summer 2013, will provide world-class assembly and manufacturing facilities. Wärtsilä and Transmashholding signed the joint venture agreement in May 2010. The intention is to manufacture modern and multi-purpose diesel engines, including a technically advanced version of the Wärtsilä 20 engine, in Russia.

Tonon Appointed VP, R&D in Wärtsilä

Paolo Tonon, MSc (Eng), 42, has been appointed Vice President, R&D of Wärtsilä Industrial Operations as of 1 June 2012. Mr Tonon will be responsible for the Research and Development of Wärtsilä products. Tonon, who joined Wärtsilä in 1998, has successfully held several leading strategic, operational and technology positions. Prior to this current appointment he has, since 2009, been Vice President, Product Centre Automation, based in Norway, with responsibility for overall development and production of the Wärtsilä electrical & automation portfolio.

Wärtsilä Finland Oy Appoint New President

Stefan Damlin (44) has been appointed President of Wärtsilä Finland Oy as of 1 July 2012. Damlin, who since 1991 has experience of a variety of leading positions within finance and business development in Wärtsilä, will continue his responsibility for business development within Wärtsilä Industrial Operations (WIO) and he is a member of the WIO management team. WIO consists of production and product development. Damlin will report to Group Vice President, Wärtsilä Industrial Operations, Lars Hellberg.

Wärtsilä to Manufacture Propellers at Zhenjiang CME, China

Wärtsilä has signed an agreement with Zhenjiang CME Ltd, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), to begin the manufacture of controllable pitch propellers (CP propellers) at the two companies' joint venture unit, Wärtsilä CME Zhenjiang Propeller Co Ltd, located in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu province. The inauguration of the new factory and the first deliveries are planned for the second quarter 2011. Wärtsilä CME Zhenjiang Propeller Co Ltd will invest $16.4m in a state-of-the-art facility for manufacturing CP propellers. The investment includes the construction of a new 8,000 m2 factory at the same location as the existing fixed pitch propellers (FP Propellers) factory.

Hellberg Takes Post at Wärtsilä

B.Sc. (Eng.) Lars Hellberg (45) has been appointed Group Vice President, Head of Engine division and member of the Board of Management as of June 1, 2004. He joins Wärtsilä from Saab Automobile AB in Trollhättan, Sweden where he currently is Executive Director for Customer Satisfaction and Quality. Before joining Saab in 2001, Mr Hellberg has pursued a long career for Volvo in Sweden and in the Netherlands. He has held management positions related to engine and vehicle development, manufacturing and logistics, subsidiary management, corporate business processes, revenue management and global sales. Hellberg joining Wärtsilä now will ensure a smooth change of command during the summer and autumn well in time before Sven Bertlin is due to retire.

Stolt-Nielsen S.A. appointed Otto H. Fritzner as CEO of Stolt-Nielsen Transportation Group (SNTG). Fritzner most recently served as Managing Director, Ship Owning at SNTG. He succeeds James B. Hurlock, who was named Interim CEO of SNTG in July 2003. • SNTG's global operations will be organized into three regions - the Americas, administered from Greenwich, Conn.; Asia-Pacific, administered from Singapore; and Europe, the Middle East, India and Africa (EMEIA), administered from Rotterdam, SNTG's corporate headquarters. • SNTG's Indian Ocean Service and the Europe-to-Asia Pacific Service will be operated out of Rotterdam. I.M. Skaugen ASA announced that Skaugen PetroTrans (SPT), its 50 percent owned joint venture company, has appointed Per Voie as its President.

Wärtsilä Inaugurates New Facility

Ole Johansson, President and CEO of Wärtsilä Corporation, Tage Blomberg, Group Vice President of Wärtsilä Services, Sergio Razeto, President of Wärtsilä in Italy and Lars Hellberg, Group Vice President of Wärtsilä Industrial Operations were all present at the inauguration of the new modern facilities for the Wärtsilä Delivery Centre Trieste, Italy. The Wärtsilä investment project, which started last year at the Delivery Centre Trieste in Italy, is now complete. Wärtsilä has invested $24.8m in a modern manufacturing concept to increase capacity for engine assembly and testing in Trieste, Italy.
