Golden Ocean Group Appoint Two New Board Members

Norway based dry bulk shipping company Golden Ocean Group Limited IGOGL) has announced that Ulrika Laurin and James O'Shaughnessy have been elected as new board members.Ulrika Laurin has been the Executive Chairman of ship-owning company Anglo-Atlantic Steamship Co. Ltd. and the Chairman of Laurin Shipping AB, an international ship-management company.She has served as the CFO of Anglo-Atlantic Steamship Co. Team Tankers Buys Two Tanker Carriers

Team Tankers International announced that it has entered into share purchase agreements to acquire all outstanding shares in each of Laurin Shipping and Anglo-Atlantic Steamship Company. In combination with associated ship purchases, the total estimated enterprise value of the series of transactions is approximately $206 million. Upon completion of the transactions, Team Tankers will grow its fleet from 37 to 52 vessels. With the acquisition of Laurin Shipping, trading under the Laurin Maritime brand, Team Tankers adds a leading medium range tanker (MR) operator with commercial and technical expertise to the Company's robust chemical tanker platform.

The annual event will take place October 18-19, 2016, at the Stamford Marriott Hotel and Spa in Stamford, Conn. Capt. Michael Wilson, president & COO of Laurin Maritime (America), will serve as conference chairman. John D. (Jack) Noonan, COO of Chembulk Tankers, and Capt. Selektope wins European Marine Engineering Award

Gothenburg-based I-Tech’s Selektope antifouling agent has secured one of the prestigious European Marine Engineering Awards 2016, in recognition of the breakthrough marine coating ingredient’s Environmental Performance. The Award was presented by Robert Ashdown, Secretary General of the International Association of Classification Societies at the European Marine Engineering Conference gala dinner in Amsterdam on 13th April 2016. Selektope Shortlisted for Marine Engineering Award

Gothenburg-based I-Tech’s Selektope antifouling system has been shortlisted in the Environmental Performance category by the judging panel for the European Marine Engineering Awards. The winner of this Award will be announced at the European Marine Engineering Conference and Awards gala dinner in Amsterdam on April 13, 2016. The Environmental Performance Award, sponsored by DNV GL, is presented to a product, process or management approach that was brought to market for the first time in 2015, or which was significantly improved or relaunched. The Award judges select solutions best able to demonstrate actual, or potential, environmental benefits as a result of implementation. I-Tech Seals Market Acceptance for Selektope

Final sign-off of the antifouling active substance Selektope by the European Commission coincides the first disclosure of a commercial application in Asia. The first publicly-disclosed commercial application for a marine coating featuring Selektope will start on November 1 in Singapore, swiftly after developer I-Tech secured European Commission sign-off that the revolutionary antifouling substance can also be used by yards anywhere in Europe. Formal EC adoption of the approval regulation has been signed by EC President Jean-Claude Juncker, meaning that Selektope is permitted for use under the EU Biocidal Products Directive in professional and non-professional antifouling products throughout the EU from January 1, 2016.

Bergeron to be Keynote Speaker at SHIPPINGInsight

Scott Bergeron, CEO of the Liberian International Ship & Corporate Registry (LISCR), has agreed to serve as a keynote speaker at the SHIPPINGInsight 2015 Fleet Optimization Conference & Exhibition, which takes place in Stamford, Conn., Oct. 13-14. INTERTANKO Seafarers’ Vetting Seminar a Success

Over 1,300 seafaring officers and crew attended INTERTANKO’s Seafarers’ Vetting Seminar held last week at the NYK-TDG Maritime Academy in Laguna in the Philippines. The packed auditorium demonstrated the need and the desire for up-to-date and practical information on tanker vetting –successful vetting inspections are a crucial part of the commercial operation of any tanker. The seminar was conducted in response to INTERTANKO’s focus on the human element and the emphasis by INTERTANKO’s Vetting Committee that all seafarers should be actively involved in the ship inspection process.

Scott Bergeron appointed CEO of LISCR

Scott Bergeron has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Liberian International Ship & Corporate Registry (LISCR), the US-based manager of the Liberian Registry. Bergeron joined LISCR in 2000 as Chief Operating Officer. Prior to that, he developed a wide range of experience in the shipping industry, working for shipowner/manager Laurin Maritime, for Det Norske Veritas and for the US Coast Guard, as well as gaining practical seagoing experience on a variety of different types of ship. Yoram Cohen and Adam Cohen will remain as Chairman and Executive Vice-Chairman, respectively, of LISCR.

National Maritime Day Dinner, AMVER Awards

On May 23rd at the National Press Club in Washington DC, the North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA)  and IHS Fairplay will be hosting a dinner to commemorate National Maritime Day, which is held on May 22nd to honor merchant mariners. At this dinner, the 2010 AMVER (Automated Mutual-Assistance Vessel Rescue System) Award recipients will receive recognition for their service from Congressman Frank LoBiondo, Chairman of the House Subcommittee on the Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation, and Coast Guard Commandant Robert Papp. The evening begins at 6:00PM with a reception. The genesis of the Amver system ultimately finds its roots in the RMS TITANIC disaster in 1912.

Laurin Maritime Adopts AMOS for Newbuild

SpecTec AB (Sweden) has signed a contract with long term customer Laurin Maritime as agents for Anglo-Atlantic Steamship Co. Ltd. for the first new build vessel (Cavatina) which is the first in a series of five, built at Trogir shipyard in Croatia. The vessels are IMIO II Tankers for chemicals and oil products and will each have a deadweight of about 46,200 tons. They will have 20 coated cargo tanks, each with a capacity of below 3,000 m3. The cargo tanks are fully strengthened to carry high density cargos such as Caustic Soda 50% Solution. The first vessel is scheduled to be delivered in December 2009 and will join Laurin Maritime´s fleet of tankers for oil and chemicals. The last vessel in the series is scheduled for delivery in 2011.

Laurin Maritime to Utilize Bass’ SAFIR

BASS today announced that Laurin Maritime has signed an agreement for delivery of SAFIR for optimizing the administration of reporting according to the chapter 9 of the ISM code. Laurin Maritime will also utilize the system further by including internal audits, inspections and other company specific procedures.
