China to Send Coast Guard Ships as Tensions Rise Over Taiwanese islands
China's coast guard said on Sunday it will strengthen its law enforcement activities and carry out regular patrols around a small group of Taiwanese-controlled islands off the Chinese coast as tensions rise over the deaths of two Chinese nationals.Taiwan on Thursday defended the actions of its coast guard after two people on a Chinese speedboat, which got too close to a frontline Taiwanese island, died when their boat overturned while trying to flee a coast guard ship.

USCG to Medevac Injured Mariners Battling Rough Seas off Alsaka
The U.S. Coast Guard said it is preparing to medevac three injured mariners from a vessel currently more than 300 miles south of Kodiak Monday after a large wave reportedly caused multiple injuries aboard a 587-foot containership. Coast Guard watchstanders at the 17th District command center in Juneau are maintaining contact with the crew of the Liberian-flagged cargo vessel Copacabana until two Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crews and an HC-130 Hercules airplane crew from Air Station Kodiak can rendezvous with the vessel and hoist the three men aboard. The watchstanders received a report of three injured crewmen from the master of the 587-foot vessel located more than 500 miles south of Kodiak Sunday afternoon.
USCG, Mexican Navy Participate in Joint SAREX
Coast Guard members of the 11th Coast Guard District participated in a joint two-day search and rescue exercise, SAREX, with members of the Mexican navy's Search and Rescue Station in Ensenada, Mexico Wednesday and Thursday. Cutter Bids Farewell to Commanding Officer
The crew of the Coast Guard cutter Tampa will conduct a change of command ceremony at the Coast Guard Integrated Support Center Portsmouth pier Thursday. During the ceremony, Cmdr. Steven A. Banks will relieve Capt. Charles A. Mathieu. Chief of staff for the Coast Guard’s Atlantic Area, Capt. Christopher C. Colvin, will preside. Capt. Mathieu is a 1982 graduate of the Coast Guard Academy, having earned his commission and a degree in electrical engineering. He assumed command of Tampa in June 2003, following a shore assignment as chief, Engineering Division at the Coast Guard Command and Control Engineering Center in Portsmouth. His next assignment will be as chief, Office of Command and Control Architecture at Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, D.C. Cmdr.
