Crowley Completes First Vessel Acquisition for MARAD's Ready Reserve Force

Crowley Maritime Corporation announced it has managed the first vessel acquisition under its contract to help recapitalize a sealift fleet with the U.S. Maritime Administration (MARAD).In 2021, Crowley was awarded a multi-year vessel acquisition and management (VAM) contract to help recapitalize MARAD's Ready Reserve Force (RRF). It is now spearheading the acquisition and conversion of two vehicle carriers from American Roll-On Roll-Off Carrier Group in collaboration with Stena RoRo, Serco and LCE (Life Cycle Engineering).The first vessel to be acquired, Honor, will be followed by Freedom.

Orsted's Offshore Wind Power Profits Breeze Ahead

Danish wind power giant Orsted sees surge in earnings from offshore wind, driving interim profits up 14 percent and earnings up 32 percent  for the first nine months of 2018.The world’s largest wind farm operator, formerly known as Dong Energy said that the positive results are due to its transition to a 100 percent green power business and with its third quarter financial results revealing a surge in earnings from offshore wind and a jump in its green share of generation. LCE Wins $18.7 Mln Contract to Support Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard

Life Cycle Engineering (LCE) said it has been awarded a $18.7 million, five-year contract from Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PHNSY & IMF) to continue to provide Code 200 with engineering services in support of critical submarine maintenance availabilities. As the largest and most comprehensive fleet repair and maintenance facility between the U.S. West Coast and the Far East, PHNSY & IMF has served the nation since 1908 when it was created as a coaling and repair station. The shipyard earned its motto “We Keep Them Fit to Fight” during its pivotal role in World War II and has supported the U.S. Navy Fleet in all 20th and 21st century international conflicts.

LCE Get $5.5-Million US Navy Logistics Contract

Life Cycle Engineering (LCE) has been awarded a $5.5 million contract by the Naval Supply (NAVSUP) Fleet Logistics Center (FLC), Puget Sound, Washington to provide process support to the U.S. Naval Ship Repair Facility and Japan Regional Maintenance Center (SRF-JRMC). LCE will work with the planning and engineering departments to develop and issue job summaries and task-group instructions in the Advanced Industrial Management (AIM) system for carriers and surface ships ported in Yokosuka, Japan.

GE to Upgrade U.S. Navy Ship

In efforts to extend ship life, increase capability and assure critical operations, the U.S. Navy is refitting its USS Mount Whitney Blue Ridge class command ship. GE has signed a contract worth US$14 million if all options are exercised with Military Sealift Command for the project.

GE’s Power Conversion business has signed a contract worth $14 million (USD) if all options are exercised with Military Sealift Command (MSC) for this three-year, large electrical refit project, which will be one of the largest MSC has ever completed of this type as well as GE Power Conversion’s largest electrical refit project for the U.S. Navy.

Life Cycle Engineering Wins $3.6M NAVAIR Contract

Life Cycle Engineering (LCE) has been awarded a follow-on contract by the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR). Under this new contract, LCE will continue to provide alternative fuel qualification testing for the US Navy. This work is similar to a contract that LCE already has underway to test the first set of alternative F-76 and JP-5 test fuels which will be completed by mid-2013. The cost plus fixed fee contract award has a ten-month period of performance with a value of $3.6 million. MMS Study of Loop Current in Eastern GOM

A study released by the Minerals Management Service examines the circulation in the Eastern Gulf of Mexico (GOM) and sheds new light on the behavior of the Loop Current (LC) and Loop Current Eddies (LCEs), the relation between the upper- and lower-layer currents, and the variability of water mass characteristics in deepwater. When the LC and the LCE are present in the Gulf near oil and gas activities, operators may have to curtail or amend their operations due to the strength of the current or eddy. “The observations from this study will help MMS and other scientists better understand the Loop Current and improve our forecasting of its behavior in the Gulf of Mexico,” said Dr. Alexis Lugo-Fernandez, the MMS physical oceanographer responsible for the study.
