TCC, USC Join Forces to Cut Emissions

Leading Hong Kong ship-owner Tai Chong Cheang Steamship Co. (TCC) and the University of Southern California’s Viterbi School of Engineering (USC) announced a significant research breakthrough aimed at tackling harmful ship-source emissions today. The research was conducted as part of a research program focused on improving marine diesel combustion efficiency and the reduction of exhaust gases via the application of nanosecond pulsed generation technology. With the support of TCC, researchers at USC Viterbi’s Pulsed Power Research and Combustion and Fuels Research Laboratories have for the past five years focused upon improving combustion efficiency in vessel diesel engines.

IRS on Talent Acquisition Spree

IRClass, the Leading Ship Classification Society has hired 17 of the brightest and best Naval Architecture students from the elite technical institutes of India. IRClass celebrates its 40th Anniversary this year. In keeping with the philosophy of acquiring the brightest talent, IRClass has visited four technical institutes of India namely, IIT-Chennai, IIT-Kharagpur, Indian Maritime Institute-Vizag and CUSAT-Kochin for campus placements to induct best talent from the field of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering. The management has constituted a four member senior management team to visit and select trainees from these Institutes. After gruelling selection process, 17 students including batch toppers were selected and invited to join the prestigious Trainee Scheme of the organisation.

Ship Recycling Experts Gather in Tokyo

Top ship recycling experts from around the globe gathered in Tokyo on December 10 at the ClassNK Ship Recycling Seminar to discuss the latest updates to the EU Ship Recycling Regulation (EU Regulation), the classification society announced. Members from Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), the EU Directorate-General, and the International Chamber of Shipping together with approximately 220 other maritime professionals and policy makers attended the event hosted by leading ship classification society ClassNK. DNV GL Celebrating A Double Milestone

DNV GL, the world’s leading ship classification society and one of the world’s leading risk and sustainability service providers, is celebrating a double milestone: The Foundation DNV’s 150th anniversary and DNV GL’s first year as a merged company. To mark the 150th anniversary of Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and the one year anniversary of its merger with Germanischer Lloyd (GL), DNV GL is hosting a prestigious event in Oslo today. Over 1000 guests, made up of dignitaries, government officials and top industry figures and customers, will be present. “Created from two highly respected companies with parallel histories spanning 150 years (GL was itself formed only three years later) we want to celebrate our legacy but at the same time we are using the occasion to look forward,” says Henrik O.
