Boluda Corporación Marítima CEO Vicente Boluda Fos will receive the Knight of the Legion of Honour medal in Paris on June 16, in recognition of outstanding services rendered to France by the Valencian businessman. Mr. Jacques R. Saade, founding president of the CMA CGM Group, died on June 24, 2018 at the age of 81, according to the company. Jacques R. Saadé dedicated his life to CMA CGM. A fundraising campaign to build a international memorial dedicated to the estimated 100,000 people who lost their lives during the Battle of the Atlantic in World War II, as well as those who served and survived, is being launched in Liverpool. The Battle of the Atlantic Memorial (BOAM), the charity leading the campaign, will stage a press call with war veterans on the Liverpool’s iconic waterfront to launch the fundraising effort to build the 28 meter monument in the shape of a merchant ship split in two.

The CMA CGM Group is pleased to announce that the French President François Hollande has decorated Mr Jacques R. Saadé, the CMA CGM Group Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Commander of the National Order of the Legion of Honor. Mr Saadé was decorated by Mr François Hollande during a ceremony on April 14th, attended by Mr Saadé’s family. Several Ministers and corporate executives were also present. On Thursday, March 19, 2015, Arthur H. Thomas, Sr., president and CEO of Helix Alliance, Inc., received the Chapel of Four Chaplains Legion of Honor Award. The award was presented by retired Capt. Louis Cavaliere, U.S. Navy, chairman of the Four Chaplains Memorial Foundation, and George DuBois, chapel trustee, and mentor to the shipping community. The presentation was made at a joint meeting of the Propeller Club of Jacksonville and the Navy League. Cavaliere cited Thomas’ participation in numerous charitable organizations, including the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and American Diabetes Foundation, through his position as chief operating officer at Solutions Through Advanced Research, Inc. (STAR), a Jacksonville company active in pharmaceutical research and clinical trials.

The Lebanese American University has awarded an honorary Doctorate Degree in Humane Letters to Jacques R. Saadé, in recognition of his achievements as a great business leader. The conferment of the Honor took place during the commencement ceremony at the LAU Campus on Tuesday July 8th in front of 1500 people, including 500 students and members of the Government. Secretary of the Navy Donald Winter announced on May 29 his decision to name the Navy's newest underway replenishment vessel, USNS Amelia Earhart (T-AKE 6). The name honors Amelia Mary Earhart for her courage, vision, and groundbreaking achievements, both in aviation and for women. Amelia Earhart's name became a household word in 1932 when she became the first woman -- and second person --to fly solo across the Atlantic, on the fifth anniversary of Charles Lindbergh's feat, flying a Lockheed Vega from Harbor Grace, Newfoundland to Londonderry, Ireland. That year, she received the Distinguished Flying Cross from the Congress, the Cross of Knight of the Legion of Honor from the French government, and the Gold Medal of the National Geographic Society from President Herbert Hoover.

The French Government honored Panama Canal Authority (ACP) Administrator/CEO Alberto Alemán Zubieta with its highest distinction – “Ordre national de la Légion d’ honneur” or Legion of Honor – in recognition of Mr. Alemán’s successful management of the world’s most famous waterway. He was presented with the award in January at a private ceremony in the residence of Francois Bujon de L’Estang, French ambassador to the U.S. in Washington, D.C. The Legion of Honor, which is considered France’s highest honor, was created by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802. Marie began his career in the French Merchant Marine, followed by the French Navy. He became president of ZNA in 1990, after serving the company for 10 years. Marie is a high-profile advocate of boating safety and holds leadership positions at many boating safety organizations.
