SAAM Towage Signs Deal with Coast Tsimshian Enterprises

SAAM Towage Canada and Coast Tsimshian Enterprises Ltd. have signed a strategic alliance agreement covering access to education, training, employment and towing services.The agreement is effective immediately. Through this long-term alliance, SAAM Towage Canada will provide towage, ship-docking and ship escort services within the traditional territory of the Coast Tsimshian, including the Port of Prince Rupert and Port Edward. Fishing Company Fined after Crewman’s Death

New Zealand based fishing company Talley’s Group Ltd. has been fined $73,520 and ordered to pay $21,000 in reparations to the family of a crewman killed in an on-board accident in July 2014. The 24-year-old crewman Leighton Muir was decapitated when a broken rope snapped back while hauling in a net full of tuna aboard the Capt. M.J. Souza on July 22, 2014, when the vessel was fishing in the Kiribati Exclusive Economic Zone. Talley’s pleaded guilty to a charge laid by Maritime NZ of failing to take all practicable steps to ensure the safety of its employees while at work, and was sentenced June 9, 2016 in Nelson District Court. The court was told that a 50mm safety rope connected to the purse seine net had previously snapped three weeks before Muir’s death but had not been replaced…

Cautious Optimism on Pacific NorthWest LNG Report

Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (CEAA)  has ruled that Pacific NorthWest LNG’s project in British Columbia would likely harm harbour porpoises and contribute to climate change, but the export terminal could be built and operated without causing major ecological damage, reports The Globe and Mail. CEAA says that the Pacific Northwest LNG project will not lead to significant adverse impacts on the Skeena salmon fishery. The federal government has released its draft environmental assessment report on the proposed Pacific NorthWest liquefied natural gas terminal, but First Nations and conservation groups in Northern B.C. say their input wasn’t taken into account.

Maritime Security in Focus in the Caribbean

Puerto Rico, centrally located at the crossroads of the Caribbean, is the location of Maritime Security 2015 Caribbean currently underway in the busy port city of San Juan. The keynote addresses were delivered by Ingrid Colberg-Rodriguez, executive director of the Puerto Rico Ports Authority, and Capt. Michael Zamperini, deputy commander of Coast Guard Sector San Juan. Attendees included representatives from federal agencies, including Coast Guard, Customs and Border Protection, Transportation Security Agency, FBI, FEMA, Drug Enforcement Agency, and the National Joint Terrorism Task Force.

HLG Bags Abu Dhabi Port's KIZAD Contract

The Habtoor Leighton Group (HLG) has been awarded a contract with revenue of AED263 million (AUD96 million) for the construction in Abu Dhabi of Khalifa Industrial Zone (Kizad) Area A Secondary Infrastructure (Phase 1B) for Abu Dhabi Ports. The methodology will include extensive dewatering, excavation, pipe-laying and road construction works. HLG has been involved in the construction of different phases of Khalifa Port and Kizad in Abu Dhabi and is very proud to again be selected by Abu Dhabi Ports to deliver this project. Leighton to Sell John Holland

Leighton Holdings today announced it had entered a binding agreement for the sale of John Holland to CCCC International Holding Limited (CCCI). CCCI is a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), the fourth largest construction company in the world by revenue1 . CCCC has a market capitalisation of approximately A$23.5 billion and is listed on the Hong Kong and Shanghai stock exchanges. CCCI will purchase John Holland for an enterprise valuation of approximately A$1.15 billion subject to certain adjustments. Leighton Reports Q3 UNPAT up 21%

Leighton Holdings Limited today announced its unaudited results for the nine months to 30 September 2014. Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Marcelino Fernández Verdes, said: “The Leighton Group produced a strong result in the third quarter. Underlying net profit after tax1(UNPAT) of $470 million was up 21% from $389 million in the previous corresponding period. Reported net profit after tax (NPAT) of $430 million also compared favourably with the same period in 2013, when NPAT of $444 million included a one-off gain of $115 million from the sale of 70% of the Group’s telecommunications assets. Leighton Holdings announced its results for the six months to 30 June 2014. * EBITDAiii of $843 million. * NPAT of $291 million. * Gearing of 37.1%. * Interim dividend of 57 cents per share, 25% franked, an increase of 27% on HY13. Habtoor Leighton Awarded Doha Pipeline Project

for KAHRAMAA – Qatar’s General Electricity and Water Corporation. HLG, operating as Leighton Contracting (Qatar) WLL, is responsible for the supply, installation, testing and commissioning of 120km of 1600mm diameter ductile iron pipes and fittings. Works also include trench excavation, backfilling and construction of all valve chambers. This contract brings the total value of new project awards to HLG during 2014 to AED7.4 billion (US$2 billion) – close to doubling HLG’s December 2013 work in hand to AED16.5 billion (US$4.48 billion). The pipelines project is the fifth project awarded to HLG by KAHRAMAA. KAHRAMAA was for the construction of the Duhail and Umm Qarn Reservoirs in 2009.

Leighton Holdings Announces Appointment Of MDs

Leighton Holdings announced the appointment of Four Managing Directors. Construction will be led by David Jurd, who is currently the Executive General Manager of Leighton Contractors’ Infrastructure Division. Mining will be led by Bruce Munro, who is currently Managing Director of Thiess. PPPs will be led by Angel Muriel, who is currently Leighton Holdings’ Chief Development Officer. Engineering will be led by Craig Laslett, who is currently Managing Director of Leighton Contractors. Ian Edwards will continue to lead Leighton Asia, India and Offshore; Glenn Palin will continue to lead John Holland; and Mark Gray will continue to lead Leighton Properties. Leighton also announced the branding of the construction and mining businesses.

Leighton Chairman retires, Executive Chairman & 2 Directors appointed

Leighton Holdings Chairman, Mr Bob Humphris OAM, has announced his retirement as Chairman and his resignation as a Non-executive Director effective as of today. Mr Humphris signaled his intention to retire at the Company’s recent Annual General Meeting in May. Mr Humphris said: “It has been a privilege to be involved with Leighton for the last nine and a half years and as Chairman for the last year. However it is now time for me to retire from corporate life and to hand over to a new team. I look forward to watching Leighton grow and prosper in the future, building on the professionalism of our staff and, in particular, the Group’s very strong ‘can do’ culture.

Conditional Settlement of Leighton Class Action

Leighton Holdings Limited announces that it has entered into a conditional agreement to settle the shareholder class action brought against it in relation to the 11 April 2011 disclosure of a revision of its profit forecast for the 2011 Financial Year. The claim was commenced by Inabu Pty Ltd. The class comprises shareholders who purchased shares in the period from 16 August 2010 to 11 April 2011. Under the terms of the settlement, Leighton Holdings will pay $65.55 million (plus costs). The settlement will have no material impact on earnings or profit forecasts. Leighton Holdings’ CEO, Mr Marcelino Fernández Verdes, said: “Whilst we continue to deny the claim, the decision to settle the class action was a commercial one, taken in the interests of our shareholders.

Strategic Marine Scores Two Infrastructure Projects

Strategic Marine announced today it is constructing two marine infrastructure fabrication projects in its Vietnam shipyard. Both projects are for Australian clients. The first comprises three 60-meter pontoons and three 90-meter gangways for application in Gladstone Port Corporation's new tug base. The second is for Carnegie Wave Energy and comprises three Buoyant Actuators for a renewable wave energy and desalination project off the coast of Perth. Reef Subsea Win Large Middle East, A-P, Contracts

Reef Subsea Dredging and Excavation (D&E) report they have secured a number of substantial contracts in the Middle-East and Asia Pacific as they continue to grow its global footprint. The Middle-East contracts will involve two teams from the company’s UK workforce managing subsea excavation work in Saudi Arabia and Iraq. The work in the Al Khafji field in Saudi Arabia, on behalf of Technip and Khafji Joint Operations (KJO), is a shore approach cable excavation in shallow waters. Specialist personnel will also be deployed for the post-lay burial of the 165mm composite cable.

Substantial charter agreement for Solstad's offshore Derrick Lay Barge (DLB) "Norce Endeavour" by Australia's Leighton Contractors. DLB "Norce Endeavour" will work at the Gorgon LNG Jetty and Marine Structures on Barrow Island, Western
Australia. Solstad will also provide project management and engineering to support the DLB scope of works and
 operation from Solstad's offices in Singapore and Perth, Western Australia. The mobilisation of Norce Endeavour will start in October 2012 after completion of existing charter. The contract value is confidential between the parties.

Strategic Marine to Build Barge for Energy Sector

Perth-based ship building company Strategic Marine has won a contract to supply a 88.5-ft work barge to service the energy and resources sector in Western Australia's north-west. The vessel, being built for Karratha business Offshore Plant Hire, will be based in the Port of Dampier and be chartered to marine operations company Bhagwan Marine. It will service the areas around Dampier, Onslow and Barrow Island and be used primarily for port upgrades, construction support, mooring maintenance and shallow water dive perations.

Strategic Marine Contract, Leighton-Saipem Consortium Vessels

Strategic Marine won the contract to build four new workboats for Leighton-Saipem Consortium for use by the Chevron operated Gorgon Project. The vessels will be built at the company's Henderson Shipyards and used to transport workers to and from construction barges operating at Barrow Island as part of the LNG jetty and marine structure contract for the Gorgon Project. Strategic Marine Chief Marketing Officer Terry O’Connor said these vessels would be the first delivered under the new contract with Leighton-Saipem Consortium. The new workboats will each carry 12 passengers and will be delivered this year. Shipping Company Pleads Guilty

MARMARAS NAVIGATION LTD, a Greek operator of a fleet of ocean going vessels transporting products around the world, recently plead guilty to a felony violation of the "Act to Prevent Pollution from Ships" for improperly documenting the handling of oily waste aboard the marine vessel ("M/V") Agia Eirini. MARMARAS pleaded guilty to a felony violation for failing to maintain proper records associated with the ship's handling of its waste oil. If approved by the court, the plea agreement requires that MARMARAS pay a criminal fine of $200,000, develop and implement a comprehensive environmental compliance plan for its fleet of twenty-eight (28) ships that call on United States ports, and serve three (3) years on probation.

Previously, on September 25, 2003, Vincent Genovana, an engineering officer on the M/V Höegh Minerva, pleaded guilty to falsifying documents and covering up evidence in order to obstruct or influence a United States Coast Guard investigation. In addition to the fine, U.S. District Court Judge Ronald B. Leighton ordered Höegh Fleet Services A/S to develop and implement a comprehensive environmental compliance plan for its fleet of 38 vessels that call on U.S. ports, and serve four years on probation.

Naval Academy Honors Distinguished Alumni

The U.S. Naval Academy paid tribute to four of its alumni March 30 and 31 through the 2007 Naval Academy Alumni Association Distinguished Graduate Award program. Retired Rear Adm. Maurice H. Rindskopf, retired Adm. Thomas B. Hayward, Ralph W. Hooper, and retired Adm. Leighton W. Smith Jr. received the Distinguished Graduate Award in a ceremony March 30, and participated in a leadership conference with more than 500 Midshipmen March 31.
