MAN Reenters Finnish Market with Baltic Order

MAN Energy Solutions has won the order to supply the engines for a newbuild shuttle ferry for Estonian shipping company Tallink Grupp. A diesel-electric plant comprising five MAN 51/60DF dual-fuel main engines – with liquefied natural gas (LNG) as primary fuel – will power the MyStar, which Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) will construct at its yard in Finland. Type Approval for Uprated MAN L51/60DF

MAN Diesel & Turbo said its dual-fuel MAN L51/60DF engine has passed its Type Approval Test (TAT), which ran from October 17 to 20 at the company’s Augsburg works in Germany, in front of the industry’s main classification societies. The nine-cylinder test engine has an output of 1,150 kW/cylinder at a nominal speed of 500/514 rpm. The MAN L51/60DF engine can be employed both as marine main-engine and auxiliary engine. Augsburg’s testbed no. 20 hosted the test program of a nine-cylinder version of the engine that ran on fuel oil (DMA) and natural gas.

MAN Gensets Delivered for Italian Patrol Vessel

Following an order won in October 2016, MAN Diesel & Turbo SE has delivered gensets for the first of new series of Italian Navy offshore patrol vessels (OPV) and has secured an order for second shipset. After the successful factory acceptance tests (FAT) in July 2017 witnessed by a delegation from the Italian Navy, MAN Diesel & Turbo SE has delivered four MAN 12V175D generating sets to Fincantieri Muggiano Shipyard, where the first of a class of seven Multipurpose Offshore Patrol Vessels (Pattugliatore Polivalente d'Altura - PPA) is currently under construction.

MAN Diesel & Turbo Tallies Chinese Dredger Contracts

Over a period of four months, MAN Diesel & Turbo has won contracts for four Chinese dredger newbuildings. Chinese outfits CHECD, Jiangsu Haixin and Huanghua Port Bureau recently chose MAN medium-speed engines for trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) newbuildings. CHEC Dredging Company Ltd. (CHECD) – a subsidiary of CCCC Shanghai Dredging Company Ltd., a branch of CCCC Dredging Company Ltd. (CDC), one of the leading dredging companies in the world and the largest in China – chose complete propulsion packages from MAN Diesel & Turbo for their new 2 × 6,500 m3 TSHDs.

Navantia, the major Spanish shipbuilder, has chosen MAN main and GenSet engines to power two fleet-support-tanker newbuildings it is currently constructing for the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). MAN 48/60CR Engines for New US Navy Tankers

The U.S. Navy has chosen the Fairbanks Morse MAN 12V48/60CR engine as main propulsion for a new series of 17 ships as it begins plans to phase out its existing tanker fleet. Known colloquially as oilers, the existing aging fleet of 15 tankers is used to transfer fuel from coastal ports to naval vessels at sea. Eastern Selects MAN Engines for OPC

The US Coast Guard will have MAN’s 28/33D STC engines installed as the main propulsion for its new Offshore Patrol Cutter (OPC) programme. MAN Diesel & Turbo announced that it has secured an order for a complete propulsion package for a chemical tanker. The order is significant in that it marks a “world-first”: the package is the first to feature a full HyProp ECO fuel-saving, hybrid propulsion system with PTO/PTH. First MAN 175D Engines Ordered

MAN Diesel & Turbo has won a contract to supply the first shipset (plus an option for six more, to be confirmed) of GenSets for the multipurpose, offshore patrol vessel – Pattugliatore Polivalente d' Altura (PPA) – program. Each vessel will feature four 12V175D GenSets, each delivering 1,640 kW. The newbuildings have been ordered as part of the Italian Navy’s “Programma di Rinnovamento” fleet renewal program. “We already have several 175D test installations in operation but this is really the breakthrough for the engine,” said Lex Nijsen, Head of Four-Stroke Marine, MAN Diesel & Turbo.

MAN 32/40 Package for Chinese Dredger

Jiangsu Haihong Engineering Technology Co., Ltd. has ordered four MAN 32/40 engines in connection with an order for two 8,000-cubic-meter trailing suction hopper dredgers. MAN’s scope of delivery covers two shipsets, each including a propulsion package consisting of two 9L32/40 engines, a MAN Alpha twin-screw VBS860 CP propeller, single marine reduction RSVL-800 gearboxes from Renk, plus a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system that enables the engines to fulfill Tier III in liquid mode. Indonesian Navy Orders MAN Engine for Training Ship

MAN Diesel & Turbo has received an order for an MAN 6L21/31 engine to power a newbuilding cadet training sailing ship for the Defence Ministry of the Republic of Indonesia. MAN Diesel and Turbo to Power Giant Crane Vessel

MAN Diesel & Turbo has signed a contract with Sembcorp Marine in Singapore to supply the dual-fuel propulsion system – including exhaust-gas after-treatment – for a New Semi-submersible Crane Vessel (NSCV) for Heerema Offshore Services. The scope of the contract – signed on 30 October, 2015 – provides for 12 × MAN 8L51/60DF four-stroke engines + 12 × MAN SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) systems. MAN Diesel & Turbo states that the total power output of the engines is some 96 MW and believes it – with the exception of power barges – to be one of the largest engine installations the world has ever seen aboard a single ship. Certainly, it is the first vessel of this size to feature dualfuel technology and, upon completion, will be the largest vessel of its kind globally.

Engines Ordered for Largest Cutter-Suction Dredger

Dredging specialist Jan De Nul Group is set to further expand its modern fleet with a self-propelled, cutter-suction dredger to be built at Croatian shipyard, Uljanik Brodogradiliste in Pula. The vessel, currently designated JDN8069, will feature one MAN 14V48/60CR and two MAN 9L48/60CR engines as well as three step-up, RENK Rheine gearboxes for a diesel-electric plant. RENK will also deliver the gearboxes for the cutter-head drive as well as for the dredger and booster pumps. Upon completion, the vessel will be the largest of its type in the world.

MAN Engines Selected for High-speed Ferry

Incat, the Australian shipyard, has awarded MAN Diesel & Turbo the contract to supply the engines for the ‘KatExpress 3’, a high-speed ferry newbuilding. In total, 4 × 20V28/33D STC engines, each delivering 9,100kW, will drive the four waterjets that will power the 109-m, wave-piercing catamaran for Mols-Linien, the Danish ferry operator.
