Four Honors for NOL at Asian Freight Awards

SINGAPORE, 27 APRIL 2011 – NOL Group won accolades for excellence in Shipping and Logistics and CEO Ron Widdows received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 25th Asian Freight & Supply Chain Awards here tonight. Both of NOL’s principal businesses were honored at one of the longest-running awards tributes in the Asian transportation sector. Container carrier APL was named Best Shipping Line in the Transpacific and Asia-Europe trades. APL Logistics won in the category of Best Logistics Service Provider – Sea Freight.

Jeffboat to Launch 10,000th Vessel

Jeffboat will launch its 10,000th vessel at 11:00 am on July 17. State and local officials, including Jeffersonville, In. Mayor Ron Waiz, are expected to attend. Lifetime Achievement Awards will be presented to former Jeffboat President, Robert Greene, and former Jeffboat Engineering Vice-President, William Toutant.

ONR Researchers Awarded for Achievements

The Office of Naval Research (ONR) bestowed five researchers with high honors in a ceremony Aug. 14 during the 2008 ONR Naval S&T Partnership Conference held in . Dr. Bobby Junker was presented with the Fred E. Saalfeld Award for a Lifetime Achievement in Science. Four others received the Vice Adm. G. Bowen Award for their work resulting in patented inventions, David Abdow, James Butts, Donald Cox and Stephen Oliver. Junker was selected for the lifetime achievement award for his more than 30 years of leadership in research in the defense industry. He is the department head for the Command, Control, Communications & Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance Department at ONR.

ONR Presents Dr. Fred E. Saalfeld Award

Chief of Naval Research and the Office of Naval Research (ONR) honored the recipient of the 2006 Dr. Fred E. Saalfeld Award for Outstanding Lifetime Achievement in Science at a ceremony at ONR's headquarters in Arlington, Va., Oct. 30. Rear Adm. William Landay III and ONR honored Dr. Michael F. Shlesinger as the 2006 recipient. The Dr. Fred E. Saalfeld Award recognizes the significant lifetime achievements in science by individuals who are civilian employees with the Department of the Navy, members of the military service on active duty, or grantees or contractors funded by the Department of the Navy. The award consists of a plaque, a certificate, and $7,500, for government civilians or military personnel.

Following a successful re-launch last year, the Society of Petroleum Engineers Aberdeen Section is again hosting the Offshore Achievement Awards with the support of main sponsor TAQA Bratani. This year will see the ceremony move to the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre to meet the huge demand for spaces at the event in March 2012. Over 70 entries were received for the 2012 awards, which took place at Ardoe House Hotel in Aberdeen in front of around 400 people. Winners included Expro Group, AMEC and 3sun Group, with Professor Alex Kemp picking up the Lifetime Achievement award.

Struijs Honored with Lifetime Achievement Award

Pieter Struijs – Vice-chairman of the Executive board of the Port of Rotterdam and President of the International Association of Ports and Harbors – on September 14 was presented with the ‘Maritime Lifetime Achievement Award’ during the Maritime Security Expo in New York. Together with U.S. Commissioner of the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection Robert Bonner, Struijs will be presented with this award in recognition of his efforts to promote security in the shipping industry. Under the supervision of Struijs, the Port of Rotterdam has over the last couple of years been applying itself to promoting the security of the port of Rotterdam. The multidisciplinary Criminality Platform, for example, was already established as early as 1997.

ClassNK Chairman and President Noboru Ueda was honored with the Seatrade Lifetime Achievement Award at the Seatrade Asia Awards on June 21, 2013 in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the development of the maritime sector in Asia. Held annually by London-based maritime media company Seatrade Communications, the Seatrade Asia Awards recognizes excellence in such fields as innovation, safety, and education within the Asian maritime industry. The awards ceremony was held in the JW Marriott Hotel, Hong Kong with the attendance of almost 400 people from all over the maritime industry.

Panama Canal Authority Receives Honors

In honor of his leadership, Panama Canal Authority (ACP) Administrator/CEO Alberto Alemán Zubieta received a “Lifetime Achievement Award” from Lloyd’s List. Presented at the publication’s Global Awards ceremony in London, the award is given on an annual basis to an individual who has dedicated his or her life's work to furthering the development of the maritime industry. The ACP’s Center for Simulation, Research and Maritime Development (SIDMAR) also received the Lloyd’s List “Training Award” for its leadership in elevating the quality of maritime education and training. For more than 20 years, SIDMAR has been responsible for the training of all Canal operations personnel including ACP pilots, tugboat captains, seamen and launch operators.

Husick Honored with NMEA Lifetime Achievement Award

In a ceremony that mixed fond memories with humorous stories, the National Marine Electronics Association celebrated the life of Charles “Chuck” Husick, who died September 13 at the age of 77. Association President, David Hayden, presented NMEA’s Lifetime Achievement Award posthumously to Husick’s son and grandson at the October 2 banquet capping the NMEA’s 2010 International Marine Electronics Conference & Expo in Seattle, Wash. Husick was the former head of the Chris-Craft Boat Co.

CITIS 2002 Awards Honor Innovators

Communications and IT companies in shipping were toasted at the CITIS 2002 Awards in London in March with top honors going to a daily electronic newspaper, an evacuation simulator, a collision avoidance trainer and a message management concept. In addition to innovation awards in four categories, International Maritime Organization secretary general William O’Neil received a lifetime achievement award for overseeing the introduction of the Global Maritime Distress & Safety System. The winners, selected by expert judges from a shortlist of three in each category, were announced at a gala dinner at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre during the sixth CITIS event, organized by Lloyd’s List Events.

Some of the industry's biggest players and supporters were present to honor Admiral James Loy and Grace Allen at the 26th Annual Silver Bell Awards Dinner on June 17 at Chelsea Piers in Manhattan. Also recognized, was John J. McMullen, renowned naval architect and marine engineer, and former CEO of United States Lines, who received a Lifetime Achievement Award. The event, which is one of the industry's top social and philanthropic events of the season, drew a record 954 guests, and raised more than $550,000 for the Seamen's Church Institute of New York & New Jersey. "We are grateful for the support of the maritime industry and our friends," said the Rev. Dr. Jean R. Smith, SCI's Executive Director.

Robert Allan Receives Meritorious Achievement Award

Rob Allan was presented with the Meritorious Achievement Award as one of the President’s Awards conferred by Engineers & Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC) on October 20, 2017 at their Annual Award Gala held in Whistler, BC. This award is given annually to a member of the Association who has achieved distinction and outstanding goals associated with his/her profession. Allan has over 45 years of experience in the design of commercial workboats of all types, but especially high-performance tugboats for tanker escort and offshore terminal operations.

Nagel Presented with the Breakbulk Lifetime Achievement
