Glamox to Light the New Fleet of Finnish Navy Corvettes

Glamox (GLX) entered into an agreement with Rauma Marine Constructions and the Finnish Ministry of Defense to deliver fully integrated LED lighting technology for the Finnish Navy’s new Squadron 2020 Corvette vessels. This includes the navigation light system, internal and external lighting, and the helicopter visual landing aid system.The Squadron 2020 project aims to decommission and replace seven of the existing Finnish naval fleet with modern corvette vessels.

Viking XPRS Returns to Helsinki-Tallinn Route

Finnish ferry company Viking Line  continues to modernise its vessels. The M/S Viking XPRS, which has just undergone dry-docking, has been back sailing its usual Helsinki–Tallinn route starting on February 1. Passengers on the renovated vessel can now look forward to even more enjoyable restaurant and café experiences as well as improved shopping options. During its weeks of dry-docking, the vessel’s restaurant facilities in particular underwent major changes. On Deck 7 a brand-new entertainment venue – the dayand nightclub Club X – will open on February 11. We listened to customers’ wishes and expanded the space there by a third, adding seats for another 150 guests, says the company. As a result, we have increased the level of passenger comfort, especially on day cruises.

Superyachts Shift to LED Lighting

Less than three years left of halogen bulb production sharpens focus for designers and yards. The hitherto gradual shift from traditional lighting technology to the new, environmentally efficient formats has, for the superyacht industry, taken on a new sense of urgency. With the deadline for production ceasing for the popular halogen bulbs now less than three years away (September 2016), Lumotics Marine is working with designers and yards initiating new builds in advising clients on preparing for the near-universal adoption of ship-wide LED lighting.

New NOAA ROV On Ocean Trials

The 6,000-meter-rated remotely operated vehicle (ROV) system will be tested from 'Okeanos Explorer' in the 2013 field season. Dave Lovalvo, project manager for the NOAA Office of Ocean Exploration and Research’s Deep Submergence Group and his team has built and will be testing the ROV during the 2013 field season. The vehicle will be operated from the NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer, America's only U.S. government ship that is dedicated to the sole purpose of exploring the world’s oceans.

Larson Electronics’ Magnalight.com announced today the addition of the HL-7LED-3C Handheld LED Control to its line of LED spotlights.
