Bibby Marine Appoints Woodcock as Non-executive Director

DCSA Sets Track and Trace Standards

The Digital Container Shipping Association (DCSA), a non-profit group of nine major ocean freight carriers, published track and trace standards in an effort to unify information sharing and further digitalization goals."This is the first of many initiatives to be put forth by DCSA to transform inefficient practices and accelerate digitization through a unified industry effort," said the Container line group.Carriers, shippers and third parties can use track and trace standards to "enable cross-carrier shipment tracking" and can download the standards from the DCSA website, DCSA said.The data model ensures track and trace data definitions are consistent for all usersā€¦

K Line, FueLNG Team-up on LNG Bunker

Japanese shipping firm Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line) has announced that it has concluded a ship management agreement with FueLNG Pte Ltd for a 7500 m3 LNG bunkering vessel (LBV).FueLNG will own and operate the vessel, as well as carry out all commercial operations, said K Line press statement.The partnership will combine K Lineā€™s extensive ship management and LNG transportation experience with FueLNGā€™s LNG bunkering expertise, which includes more than 160 truck-to-ship LNG bunkering operations conducted to-date. This will provide a reliable, expedient and seamless bunkering process for FueLNGā€™s customers.The LBV is expected to commence LNG-bunkering service in Singaporeā€¦

"K" Line Secures Woodchip Carrier Contract

Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (ā€œKā€ LINE) announced that an agreement has been made with Nippon Paper Industries Co. Ltd., on consecutive voyage contract of new 3.6 million CFT woodchip carrier delivered in 2022. The carrier will be carrying woodchips for paper materials and woodchips for Biomass power generation business which will operate at Tomakomai in 2023.The Carrier will be equipped with the latest economical and environmental-friendly features. The carrier installs Hybrid fin behind the propeller to save energy and Ballast water treatment system to compliant with the ballast water discharging rules. K Line to Promote AI in Shipping Industry

Japanese shipping company Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line) has partnered with Hiroshima University, the National Institute of Maritime, Port and Aviation Technology and Marubeni Corporation to jointly work on research and analysis of maritime logistics and shipping market conditions using artificial intelligence (AI).In recent years, it has become possible to use comprehensive, chronologically ordered ship movement and static data, such as position (coordinate information), speed, direction, port of call and drafts, for ships with over 300 gross tonnage traveling internationally. K Line Gets $406M Loan

Japanese shipping company Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line) has decided to raise JPY 45 billion (USD 406 million) through a new subordinate loan.According to a stock exchange annoucement, the loan proceeds will be used for the repayment of interest-bearing debts and capital expenditures mainly for vessels.The loan, valid from April 2019 through March 2054, has been agreed with lenders including Mizuho Bank, Development Bank of Japan and Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank."In addition to the business structural reforms set forth in the announcement dated March 7, 2019, the K Line  group has been developing its core businesses through the ongoing rebuilding portfolio strategy, with an aim to expand the stable income business and achieve a sustainable growth.

ā€œKā€ Line Group Holds Environmental Awards 2018 Ceremony

Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (ā€œKā€ Line), one of the largest Japanese transportation companies, held the Award Ceremony for ā€œKā€ Line Group Environmental Awards 2018 on June 5, 2018. According to a company press release, the awards were established to honor and give recognition to outstanding environmental-preservation-contributive activities addressed by executives and employees working throughout the ā€œKā€ Line  Group pursuant to the direction developed in  ā€œKā€ Line Environmental Vision 2050. This year, which marked the 4th time since establishment of the awards in 2015, we also accepted many entries from our group companies both in Japan and overseas.

K Line Acquires Statement of Conformity for Environmental System

Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha ("K" Line) and some of its group companies recently acquired a ā€œStatement of Conformityā€ for its environmental system, ā€œDrive Green Networkā€ (DGN), for pushing forward group-wide environmental management in consequence of a conformity audit by a third-party institution (DNV-GL). ā€œDGNā€ was started in June 2017 for continually improving environmental preservation activities while promoting the PDCA cycle function and ensuring environmental compliance throughout the entire K Line Group. "We strive for realization of a sustainable society as an entire group through individual efforts of each company in identifying and addressing environmental issues in their daily operations," a press release said.

Sir Michael Bibby New President of UK Chamber of Shipping

Sir Michael Bibby was elected President of the UK Chamber of Shipping at the organisationā€™s Annual General Meeting in London. He becomes the Chamberā€™s 132nd president in its 140th year. John Denholm, chairman of J&J Denholm, was elected Vice-President at the meeting, which was attended by over 100 people from the Chamberā€™s member companies. Sir Michael is planning to step back from his position as Managing Director of Bibby Line Group during 2018 to allow him to better focus his time on external work interests, including his involvement with the UK Chamber. He used his inaugural speech as President to praise the Chamberā€™s rising political and media influence, and its success with the SMarT Plus campaign, a joint proposal with Nautilus that became Government policy in February.

SEA\LNG Ties with Two More Japanese Members

SEA\LNG, the industry coalition aiming to accelerate adoption of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a marine fuel, has added two more Japanese members: "K" LINE Group and Uyeno Group. ā€œKā€ LINE and Uyeno Group bring valuable insight from the thriving LNG value chain in Japan and elsewhere, and their acceptance into the coalition is demonstrative of SEA\LNGā€™s commitment to facilitating further growth in the region. K Line to Develop Japanā€™s First LNG-Fueled Ferry

Japan's shipper giant Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line) and Kawasaki Kinkai Kisen Kaisha (K Line Kinkai) will work on a joint study for what would be Japanā€™s first LNG-powered ferry. "K Line Kinkai and K Line) have agreed to work on joint study for K Line Kinkaiā€™s newbuilding passenger ferry being fueled by LNG, whose study includes specifications, engine types and any related technical verifications for LNG handling," said a statement from the company. K Line Kinkai has been studying introduction of a ferry fueled by LNG, an environmentally-friendly energy that could almost completely eliminates SOx emissions and also minimizes NOx and CO2 emissions to certain levelā€¦

Harren & Partner to Acquire SAL Heavy Lift

Bremen-based shipping company Harren & Partner and "K" Line, Tokyo, have reached an agreement for Harren & Partner to acquire German carrier SAL Heavy Lift today (27 July 2017). SAL will become the new dominant player in the super heavy lift segment (900 t to 2,000 t crane capacity). SAL Heavy Lift, founded in 1980 in the "Altes Land" area near Hamburg, is one of the world's leading carriers specialised in the sea transport of heavy lift and project cargo. Its offshore subsidiary, SAL Offshore, develops and supplies installation solutions for the oil & gas and renewables sectors. Part of the "K" Line Group since 2011, SAL has access to a highly flexible fleet of 15 heavy lift vessels and a worldwide network with offices and agencies in 25 countries.

SOV Bibby WaveMaster 1 Launched

The service operations vessel (SOV) Bibby WaveMaster 1 was officially launched at Damen Shipyards Galati in Romania on March 24. When completed, Bibby Marine Services Limited, part of Bibby Line Group, will deploy the vessel to support forthcoming offshore wind construction and O&M projects in the North Sea. "K" Line Joins Indian National Shipowner's Association

"K" Line (India) Shipping Private Ltd (KLISP), affiliated company of Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha Ltd., joined Indian National Shipowner's Association(INSA) at the end of January 2017. KLISP was established in 2014 and actively participates in Indian Coastal Trade as well as International Trade business as an Indian Shipping company. In the same year, KLISP successfully entered into a long-term CVC contract with an Indian Charterer. From December 2016, KLISP acquired ownership of an Indian flag vessel, "GANGA K" (58,000DWT Bulk Carrier) for this contract, and by acquisition of this Indian flag vessel, KLISP was officially entitled to join INSA.

Global Shipping in Doldrums

Wells Fargo Securities says that headwinds face global shipping industry and the continued overcapacity means freight rate gains are less likely to stick. "Given the continued overcapacity headwinds and easing containerized trade demand, we believe these freight rate gains are less likely to stick, and we expect rates to remain under pressure as we approach the slack winter season, particularly following a muted peak season," says a report from Wells Fargo Securities, written by Michael Webber that appeared in the Forbes. Intrepid trekkers ā€“ Jess Kramer, Sarah Ryan, Nicky Davenport and Sandra Corrigan have just arrived home from a trip of a lifetime. All four Bibby Ship Management (BSM) Isle of Man employees took part in the Bibby Line Group ā€˜Giving Something Backā€™ Dalai Lama Trek in India, in October. The five day trek saw the team reach an altitude of 3,500 meters, camping in some extreme weather, however with such a fantastic support crew keeping the team firmly on the ground the trip was a great success.

Babcock Completes DSV Refit for Bibby

Babcock has completed a contract to undertake a substantial refit on Bibby Offshoreā€™s dive support vessel (DSV), Polaris, at its Rosyth dockyard. The project was Bibbyā€™s largest ever refit package and underlines Babcockā€™s move to expand its role in the maintenance and refitting of complex oil and gas support ships. The Bibby Polaris vessel is one of Bibbyā€™s international fleet consisting of eight subsea support vessels, including the most modern fleet of DSVs in the North Sea.

Carnival Reports Profit Slide in Q1 2014, Outlook Gloomy

Cruise line group Carnival Corporation announced non-GAAP net income of $2 million, or $0.00 diluted EPS for the first quarter of 2014 compared to non-GAAP net income for the first quarter of 2013 of $67 million, or $0.08 diluted EPS. On a constant dollar basis, net revenue yields (net revenue per available lower berth day or ā€œALBDā€) decreased 2.1 percent for 1Q 2014. Gross revenue yields decreased 1.9 percent in current dollars. Net cruise costs excluding fuel per ALBD increased 3.3 percent in constant dollars driven by higher advertising spend.
