Italian gas group Snam is in exclusive talks with EDF's Italian unit Edison to buy a stake in a liquefied natural gas terminal in northern Italy as part of plans to develop its LNG business, two sources said. Snam, controlled by state lender Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, is looking to buy Edison's 7.3 percent stake in Terminale LNG Adriatico and the gas pipeline that connects it to Italy's gas transmission backbone, the sources said. Adriatic LNG, which has a capacity of 8 billion cubic metres per year, is 70.7 percent owned by ExxonMobil and 22 percent by Qatar Petroleum.

The three big Japanese marine transport firms -  Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK Lines), Mitsui O.S.K. Lines and Kawasaki Kisen - are decreasing the number of containerships and bulk carriers in their fleets by 10%, reports Nikkei. This is due to weak market conditions and in response to a persistently bleak business environment brought on by a supply glut. The trio operated 1,266 of the ships in all at the close of the fiscal year ended in March, but that number will fall by 122 ships. While Mitsui O.S.K. will cut its fleet down to 409 ships by the end of fiscal 2016, or 13% less than a year earlier, Kawasaki Kisen will shrink its fleet to 255 ships by the end of fiscal 2019, a 7% decline from the end of fiscal 2015.

Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (CEAA)  has ruled that Pacific NorthWest LNG’s project in British Columbia would likely harm harbour porpoises and contribute to climate change, but the export terminal could be built and operated without causing major ecological damage, reports The Globe and Mail. CEAA says that the Pacific Northwest LNG project will not lead to significant adverse impacts on the Skeena salmon fishery. The federal government has released its draft environmental assessment report on the proposed Pacific NorthWest liquefied natural gas terminal, but First Nations and conservation groups in Northern B.C. say their input wasn’t taken into account.

New York-based energy company Hess has sold Shannon LNG, a proposed gas-import terminal in County Kerry, Ireland’s Sunday Independent has reported. The newspaper did not name the buyer for the site. The identity of the new owner of the proposed liquefied natural gas terminal on the Tarbert-Ballylongford landbank and their plans are not yet clear. Shannon LNG aimed to import LNG through southwest Ireland. However the €600 million (US$671 million) venture had yet to start construction and it is unclear whether the buyer of the site and its planning permissions will press ahead with the project. Hess’ planned 3 million tonne a year (mta) terminal featured up to four LNG-storage tanks, each with capacity for 200,000mᶾ and a jetty big enough to handle 266,000mᶾ Q-max LNG carriers.

A floating terminal for liquefied natural gas (LNG) in Croatia would lower energy prices both for households and the business sector, Croatian President  Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic said. The country’s key energy project is still the liquefied natural gas terminal on the Island of Krk, but a floating LNG facility is an option, Kolinda said. She added that Croatia can learn a lot from the Baltic countries. She recently met with the Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė who supported the LNG terminal in Croatia. Belgian gas infrastructure operator Fluxys said on Thursday it was launching a market consultation to assess demand for additional capacity at the Zeebrugge liquefied natural gas terminal in Belgium.   "Fluxys LNG is considering to extend the Zeebrugge terminal as and when the market needs additional capacity," the company said in a statement.   "In this preliminary phase, Fluxys LNG (will) conduct a market test to evaluate the appetite for small-scale LNG services such as loading small LNG bunker and feeder vessels as well as LNG trailer loading services," it added.   Fluxys LNG said it will hold discussions with interested parties to the end of September.     (Reporting by Nina Chestney, editing by David Evans)

South Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries has won the Gazprom Flot tender for the construction of the Kaliningrad floating LNG terminal, Gazprom said. It will build a floating liquefied natural gas terminal in the western Russian city of Kaliningrad for $295 million. The following companies participated in the tender: DAEWOO Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Co., ltd and Samsung Heavy Industries Company, Limited. A 3.5 km pipeline will run from the vessel to shore near the Kulikovskaya wind power plant at the southern end of the Curonian Spit. The contract for the facility will be signed in May, with the floating terminal to be delivered by November 2017.

Asian spot liquefied natural gas (LNG) prices were little changed on Friday as mild demand and the extended holiday period kept a lid on trading activity. The spot price for February was steady at about $10.10 per million British thermal units (mmBtu), in line with the previous week. Traders said, however, that prices were nominal given there was limited activity. Brazil's state-run energy giant Petrobras has shown interest in purchasing spot cargoes, one trader said, but high inventories across Asia have kept buyers on the sidelines there. There were early signs of demand for cargoes delivering in March, the source said. The LNG market has been slowly declining since September as energy prices generally have been hit by a slide in oil.

Excelerate Energy's Texan liquefied natural gas terminal plan has become the first victim of an oil price slump threatening the economics of U.S. LNG export projects. A halving in the oil price since June has upended assumptions by developers that cheap U.S. LNG would muscle into high-value Asian energy markets, which relied on oil prices staying high to make the U.S. supply affordable. The floating 8 million tonne per annum (mtpa) export plant moored at Lavaca Bay, Texas advanced by Houston-based Excelerate has been put on hold, according to regulatory filings obtained by Reuters. The project was initially due to begin exports in 2018. Excelerate's move bodes ill for thirteen other U.S.

Dutch oil and chemicals storage company Vopak said on Wednesday it would divest from 15 primarily smaller terminals and planned to cut capital expenditure by about $136 million (100 million euros). A proposal to build a liquefied natural gas terminal off the coasts of New York and New Jersey received a largely negative response at a public hearing in a suburban New York community still struggling to recover from the effects of Superstorm Sandy, reports Bloomberg. Several hundred people crowded into a hotel conference room in Long Beach, just steps from where work continues to replace a 2-mile-long boardwalk destroyed in last year's storm. Most of those who spoke said they opposed the proposal on environmental, security and economic concerns. Liberty Natural Gas has applied to federal authorities for permission to build the port in the ocean 17 miles off Jones Beach, N.Y., and 24 miles off Long Branch, N.J. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie vetoed a similar proposal in 2011.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commissionofficially vacated the certificate issued on July 15, 2005 that approved construction of Hess LNG’s proposed liquefied natural gas terminal. Governor Bob Riley has approved the application submitted by TORP Technology to operate a liquefied natural gas terminal 63 miles off the Alabama coast after the company agreed to use an environmentally-friendly method to reheat the gas. The company had originally proposed using an open-loop system that would have used seawater from the Gulf to warm up the imported LNG. Governor Riley has consistently opposed applications by companies that planned to use the open-loop system because of the negative impact on Alabama’s marine resources. In 2006, Governor Riley opposed a plan by ConocoPhillips to build an LNG facility using the open-loop system 13 miles south of Dauphin Island.

In this case, Ecology argues the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) prematurely awarded a license in September to Northern Star Natural Gas for a liquefied natural gas terminal and pipeline that impacts Washington and communities. The proposed pipeline route for the Bradwood Landing project would cross the Columbia River and extend 17 miles underground through . Federal law requires FERC to perform a detailed environmental impact review. Ecology takes issue with the adequacy of FERC's review which guided the Commission's license decision. Rather than wait for FERC's decision on the request for rehearing, Gov. Chris Gregoire directed Ecology to help conduct a thorough environmental review through the State Environmental Policy Act.

The U.S. Coast Guard, according to an AP report, has rejected an appeal of its decision to advise against a proposed liquefied natural gas terminal in Fall River. The Coast Guard reportedly wrote a letter to Weaver's Cove Energy LLC executives to reaffirm its position that the river approaching the project is unsafe for navigation by massive LNG tankers.

Measuring 34 metres long with bollard pull in excess of 64 tons, Pisces 53 is on a long term charter through Briny Marine Services Sdn Bhd to support Brunei Shell Petroleum Co Sdn Bhd’s exploration and production activities. Following her naming, Pisces 53 will join her sister vessel Phoenix 52 and an utility tug Pegasus 51, two other Maju Maritime tugs that were delivered in early June 2003, at the Brunei Liquefied Natural Gas Terminal in Lumut, Brunei.
