Sanmar Delivers Second Electric Tug for Western Canada

Turkey's Sanmar Shipyards announced it has delivered a second electric-powered tug to HaiSea Marine in Canada.The newly built HaiSea Wee’git and its sister HaiSea Wamis, delivered earlier this year, will provide harbor and escort tugboat services to tankers calling at LNG Canada’s new export facility in Kitimat, British Columbia. Sanmar Shipyards delivered its first battery electric tug to ABS class for Canada-based HaiSea Marine, a joint venture partnership between the Haisla First Nation and Seaspan ULC.The HAISEA WAMIS harbor tug, the first in its ElectRA 2800SX series, will be part of a fleet of harbor and escort tugs providing services to LNG Canada’s future terminal in British Columbia and is equipped with two steerable, fixed pitch (FP), azimuthing, L-drive propulsion units powered by electric motors integrated on top of each unit.

Canada Sees West Coast LNG Revival as World Scrambles for Gas

Shipbuilding: LNG Carrier Diamond Gas Crystal Delivered

On May 31, the liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier Diamond Gas Crystal, was delivered, built to transport LNG from LNG Canada project in British Columbia, as well as from other locations around the world, under an 18-year time-charter contract with Diamond Gas International Pte. Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) who also has a stake in the LNG Canada project.The ship was built at Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries and is owned by NYK, Asia LNG Transport Dua Sdn. Bhd. (ALT Dua), and MC through the joint venture Diamond LNG Shipping 5 Pte. Ltd.

Sanmar to Build Five Tugs for LNG Canada Project

Turkish shipbuilder Sanmar Shipyards announced it has inked a deal with HaiSea Marine for the build and delivery of three liquefied natural gas (LNG)-fueled escort tugs and two battery-electric harbor tugs which will provide ship-assist and escort towing services to LNG carriers calling at LNG Canada’s new export facility in Kitimat, B.C., on Canada's west coast.Following an initial tender process which began in 2018, HaiSea Marine has awarded the contract for all five tugs to Sanmar plus an option for a sixth.

Petronas Adds Three LNG Carrier Newbuilds

Malaysia's state oil firm Petroliam Nasional Bhd is expanding its global fleet of liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers with three newbuild 174,000 cubic meter capacity vessels, the company said on Thursday.The company, best known as Petronas, inked a time charter party (TCP) agreement with shipowner Hyundai LNG Shipping, which has signed shipbuilding contracts with South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) for the construction of the three vessels that are expected to be delivered from the second quarter of 2024 on a staggered basis.

North American LNG exports will grow quickly until 2023 then plateau until a second wave of capacity comes online from 2025, McKinsey Energy Insights said in 2019 North American Gas Outlook.Global LNG supply overcapacity puts pressure on US liquefaction capacity utilization, which has among the highest marginal costs, it said.Balancing out global LNG overcapacity is equivalent to an average US LNG capacity utilization rate of 70% from 2019-21. Chinese Buyers Leave US LNG

Chinese buyers have avoided US LNG projects even before the tariffs hiked to 25%, said a report by  Rystad Energy.Despite the Chinese tariffs, there is still appetite for US LNG from other countries. Since the first tariff of 10% was introduced on US LNG in September 2019, the US has signed about 18 million tpa worth of new export agreements with buyers globally.Rystad Energy does not expect to see any new Chinese buyers of US volumes as long as the tariff is in force.And that could be crucial for some US projects as the Chinese LNG market is experiencing the largest import growth globally, it said.Since the tariff first 10% tariff was introduced in September…

Global LNG Imports Up in Q1 by 11%

Despite the liquefied natural gas (LNG) demand in the first quarter of 2019 being negatively impacted by warmer than usual weather in the Northern Hemisphere winter, global LNG imports during the period totalled 88 million tonnes (mt), compared to 79 mt in the first quarter of 2018, or an increase of 11%, GasLog said quoting Poten.In particular, China’s LNG imports totalled 15.3 mt, 24% higher than the first quarter of 2018.Europe’s LNG imports in the first quarter more than doubled to 22 mt, compared to 10 mt in the first quarter of 2018, as lower LNG prices made gas fired power generation more competitive than coal, indigenous gas production declined and LNG gained market share from pipeline imports.
