Deltamarin Joins GTT for LNG-Powered Ship Designs

Finnish ship designer Deltamarin, part of AVIC Group, together with France's Gaztransport & Technigaz (GTT), an engineering company involved in membrane containment systems for transport and storage of LNG, has studied the use of membrane-type tanks on cargo and passenger vessels. For quite some time now, Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) has been an established fuel alternative for short sea shipping routes and also acts as a complementary fuel for longer routes. DNV GL Approves Kongsberg Engine Room Simulators

Kongsberg Digital has received DNV-GL statements of compliance for two of its newest Engine Room Simulator models designed to provide in-depth training on the K-Sim Engine simulator platform. The DNV GL-ST-033 March 2017 Maritime Simulator Systems certification, which is based on the requirements of STCW Convention, Regulation I/12, was awarded to the DEDF Cruise Ferry and L11 MAN 6S70 ME SCC K-Sim Engine models in December 2017. MOL to Build Japan's First LNG-Fueled Tugboat

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has announced the company's decision to build an LNG-fueled tugboat. The new tugboat, the first LNG-fueled tug in Japan, will conform to the IGF code issued in January of this year and is subject to be examined by Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. MOL will own the tugboat, slated for construction at Kanagawa Dockyard. Yanmar Co will supply LNG-fueled engines. Osaka Gas will supply LNG fuel to the tugboat. Nihon Tug-Boat will operate the tugboat. The new tugboat will be deployed in Osaka Bay in April 2019.

NYK Line received award sponsored by the Japan Federation of Freight Industries (JFFI) recognizing the environmental load reduction achieved by Japan's first LNG-fueled tugboat, Sakigake. This is the third time since 2009 that NYK has been honored at this annual awards ceremony. ACD Nets Two LNG Pump Orders

ACD has been engaged by DSME to engineer and supply two high pressure LNG fuel gas pump systems for new 173,400 cbm ME-GI LNG carriers forTEEKAY Shipping Ltd, with options to order up to three additional systems. The vessel will be Det Norske Veritas (DNV) classified and meet or exceed environmental standards. Delivery of the LNG fuel gas pump systems is expected to begin no later than February 2015. New regulations on limiting sulphur and nitrogen oxides emissions and a burgeoning global infrastructure are adding to the growing momentum for the more widespread adoption of LNG as a marine fuel. “Green Corridor”, a new joint industry project (JIP) signed recently in Singapore, looks to capitalize on this opportunity to drive the development of the market. DNV GL Launches LNG Fuel Finder

Just in time for Nor-Shipping, DNV GL will launch the LNG Fuel Finder - a new tool on its LNG business intelligence portal LNGi. The new LNG Fuel Finder service will allow shipowners and charterers to register their interest in using LNG as a ship fuel free of charge, connecting them directly with LNG suppliers. Shell Developing U.S. LNG Fueling Network

Shell and TravelCenters of America LLC (TA) to develop network of (LNG) fueling centers for road users; alongside that Shell is developing a marine bunkering infrastructure. Shell has been working to develop the LNG for Transport market globally. Last year, they announced their intention to collaborate with TA  and the finalization of that agreement is a major step toward making LNG fuels a reality for the U.S. heavy duty road customers. Shell has also announced that it will invest in two small-scale LNG production units that form the basis of two new LNG transport corridors in the Great Lakes and Gulf Coast regions that will provide LNG to marine and heavy duty road customers. This brings the total to three planned Shell LNG production units dedicated to transport in North America.

NLI, WTS Win DNV Approval for LNG Tank Design

Hanjin Heavy Delivers Purpose-Built LNG Bunkering Vessel

ENGIE, Fluxys, Mitsubishi Corporation, and NYK have taken delivery of the world’s first purpose built liquefied natural gas bunkering vessel (LBV) from Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction Co. Ltd., at the Yeongdo shipyard in Busan, Korea. She will run on LNG for her maiden voyage, after a few days of loading LNG delivered by trucks at the shipyard. Zeebrugge in Belgium will be the home port of the vessel, which has been named ENGIE Zeebrugge accordingly. From there, the 5,000 m3 LNG capacity LBV will supply LNG as a marine fuel to ships operating in Northern Europe.

Shell loads first LNG vessel, using new LNG fuel infrastructure at Gate terminal. The new LNG fuel infrastructure included the construction of a new berth. This new berth has now started operations. The loading of Shell’s chartered LNG vessel, the Coral Methane happened on September 19th. In July 2014, Shell took the Final Investment Decision to buy capacity at the Gas Access to Europe (Gate) terminal, which enabled the investment in new, dedicated liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel infrastructure. The new LNG fuel infrastructure included the construction of a new berth.

Louisiana to Get Natural Gas Liquefaction and Fueling Facility

Tenaska NG Fuels, LLC and Waller Marine, Inc. today announced that they have agreed to develop, construct, own and operate Louisiana's first natural gas liquefaction and fueling facility along the New Orleans-Baton Rouge Mississippi River corridor with access to the Gulf of Mexico. Located on approximately 80 acres at the Port of Greater Baton Rouge, near major highway traffic thoroughfares and high-horsepower industries, Tenaska Bayou LNG will provide liquefied natural gas (LNG) and compressed natural gas (CNG) as alternative clean-burning fuels for the high-horsepower marine, transportation, and natural gas and oil exploration and production industries in the region.

Scottish Ferries Contract for Parker Bestobell Marine

Parker Bestobell Marine, part of Parker Hannifin, has won a contract to supply cryogenic globe and check valves for two Caledonian MacBrayne Ferries (Calmac) being built at Ferguson Marine Engineering in Glasgow. The valves will be installed in the liquid natural gas (LNG) fuel gas systems of these vessels, which are the first U.K. built ships that will run on this environmentally friendly fuel. The new ferries will be ‘dual-fuel’ vessels so they can operate on both LNG and marine diesel.

USMRC LNG Bunkering Safety Course for Harvey Energy Crew

The United States Maritime Resource announced that its training partner, Harvey Gulf International Marine, recently launched the PSV Harvey Energy, the first LNG-fueled vessel to enter service in North America. In March, the PSV Harvey Energy began working on charter to Shell in the Gulf of Mexico shortly after the vessel’s first successful LNG bunkering operation. Middletown, R.I.-based USMRC developed the LNG bunkering safety training course for Harvey Gulf in 2014 as it prepared to launch its first dual fuel offshore supply vessel.

NYK Joins Study for LNG Bunkering in Yokohama

NYK is participating in a study launched by Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Tourism (MLIT) to explore the feasibility of LNG bunkering in Yokohama. This study is examining the technological and infrastructural requirements for establishment of an LNG bunkering hub at the port of Yokohama to supply LNG as fuel to ships. A kick-off meeting of the study’s steering committee was held on June 9 for the creation of a facility development plan by the end of the year.

Wärtsilä, Cryonorm to Develop LNGPac Fuel System

An agreement has been reached between Wärtsilä and Cryonorm Systems BV, the Netherlands based developer and supplier of cryogenic vaporizers, to form a consortium to deliver LNG systems for the Inland Waterway (IWW) European market. Japenese shipping major Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has entered into an agreement with five parties to launch a joint study of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) fueled Capesize bulker. MOL has announced that it has reached an agreement to launch a joint study of a LNG-fueled Capesize bulker with five other companies- BHP Billiton, DNV GL, Rio Tinto, Shanghai Merchant Ship Design and Research Institute (SDARI) and Woodside Energy. The parties signed a letter of agreement at a ceremony held in Singapore on January 20.

Proposed Terminal to Bring LNG to Florida

Clean Energy Fuels Corp. announced that it has placed a purchase contract on property where it hopes to build a liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel terminal in Jacksonville, Fla. This would be the first LNG facility on the Eastern seaboard to specifically supply LNG for the maritime, heavy-duty trucking and rail industries.
