Suez, Petrobras Sign LNG Supply Deal
French energy company Suez and Brazil's federal energy company Petrobras (NYSE: PBR) have signed an LNG supply deal, a Suez spokesperson reportedly told BNamericas. Suez's Suez Global LNG division signed the deal, in which the volume and price Petrobras will pay for the LNG will vary, the spokesperson reportedly said. The LNG will come from different parts of the world. Petrobras will start operating its two floating LNG regasification units in Rio de Janeiro and Ceará states in May 2008. Dunkirk's LNG terminal and Grand Port Maritime de Dunkerque have signed an agreement for the development of an LNG supply station. The use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) by shipping and road vehicles has grown significantly in recent months with new projects (orders for ships, LNG supply stations, etc). Dunkerque-Port and Dunkerque LNG are convinced of the role that LNG will play both at sea and on land in reducing greenhouse gas and particle emissions. Coastal Contracts Buys Stake in Indonesian LNG Supply Chain
Malaysian offshore service provider Coastal Contracts is tapping into the growing liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply chain in Indonesia with the purchase of a 49% stake in T Jaya Samudra Karunia for US$6.55mil (RM27mil), reports the Star. Coastal Contracts has signed an MoU with PT. Jaya Samudra Karunia Internasional (JSK), PT. Jaya Samuda Karunia Gas (JSK Gas) and Yudha Kurniawan Tanos. JSK core business is in Indonesia’s coal transporation sector. Given the huge potential in Indonesia’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) market, JSK has ventured into the LNG supply chain.

Statoil: Limited U.S. LNG Impact in Europe this Year
The European natural gas market is well supplied by pipeline gas from Norway and Russia, Norway's Statoil said on Wednesday, adding that it expected only limited impact from U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply this year. "Looking at the gas market moving forward the starting point is that the European Union gas market is well-supplied short-term both with gas from Russia and from Norway and potential some new LNG volumes coming in," Statoil Chief Financial Officer Hans Jacob Hegge said. "So far this year we see limited U.S. LNG volumes reaching the EU," he said.
Industry Collaborates for LNG Bunkering Study
Lloyd’s Register (LR), Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) and Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD) have signed a joint development project (JDP) to produce a ship-to-ship LNG bunkering compatibility study. This will comprehensively review the design requirements between 6.6K LNG bunkering ships and 14K TEU LNG-fuelled container ships with the goal of verifying safe ship-to-ship LNG bunkering. LNG Shipping Rates to Remain Under Pressure in 2016
LNG shipping earnings will remain under pressure in 2016 as accelerating fleet growth and changing trade patterns will weaken supply-demand conditions, according to the latest edition of the LNG Forecaster report published by global shipping consultancy Drewry. LNG vessel fleet growth is forecast to double this year to 12 percent, compared to 6 percent in 2015. Meanwhile, as new sources of LNG supply kick in from projects coming online in Australia, demand for spot cargoes from the Middle East are expected to weaken which will adversely affect overall tonne mile demand for LNG shipping. The final quarter of 2015 was disappointing for LNG shipowners, despite a seasonal uplift in demand for winter fuels.

LNG carrier freight rates have come under severe pressure due to rising fleet supply and stabilizing LNG demand, as Japan prepares to restart its nuclear power plants. Conrad Shipyard Bags LNG Order
Energy infrastructure and LNG solutions provider WesPac Midstream and its subsidiary Clean Marine Energy (CME) have awarded a contract to Conrad Orange Shipyard for the construction of a dedicated LNG bunker barge for the marine market in North America. The bunker barge, which is scheduled to be delivered in early 2016, will service ship owner Totem Ocean’s Orca Class roro vessel in Tacoma, Washington. The barge is then expected to head to Jacksonville, Florida to serve new build marlin class container vessels and other LNG-powered vessels in the Port of Jacksonville.
BG Group's Australian Project Helping to Double LNG Supplies
A smooth start to operations at BG Group's Australian project in Queensland is expected to help the British company to roughly double its liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies in 2015/16, it said on Wednesday. Seven cargoes have been shipped since December from the Queensland Curtis LNG facility, said Steve Hill, BG Group's head of global energy marketing and shipping. The plant is expected to stop operations for about a week of maintenance in the near term before ramping up to full capacity, allowing it to ship about one cargo a week. In the United States, BG Group has signed a purchase agreement for Cheniere Energy's Sabine Pass LNG terminal, with first deliveries due in December.
Stiff Challenges Await Indian LNG Terminals
India's new LNG import terminals will face major challenges due to price sensitive demand, ICRA said in its latest update on gas utilities sector. "Crowding of regasification terminals could put pressure on utilization levels, regasification charges and returns of new entrants," says ICRA (formerly Investment Information and Credit Rating Agency of India Limited). "Despite high domestic demand-supply deficit, the demand for Regasified-Liquefied Natural Gas (R-LNG) in the country is critically dependent upon the prices of liquid fuels and global spot LNG prices," Icra said.
Statoil Says Sees European Gas Prices Bottoming Out
Norway's Statoil does not expect European gas prices to fall much further as rising demand from the power generation sector would offset an expected increase in liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply, company officials said on Wednesday. The majority state-owned Statoil, Europe's second largest gas supplier after Russia's Gazprom, sold a record 85 billion cubic metres (bcm) of gas in 2015. LNG supply to Europe is expected to rise as new liquefaction plants in the U.S. and Australia ramp up production. "LNG could potentially put pressure on prices, but then the demand will kick in and balance this," Olav Kolbeinstveit, Vice President, Market Analysis, told Reuters. "In the short-term there can be some pressure, but over time prices can't fall much more lower than they are now," he added.

Shell: LNG Demand Strong to 2030
Shell launches LNG Outlook Global demand for liquefied natural gas (LNG) reached 265 million tonnes (MT) in 2016 – enough to supply power to around 500 million homes a year. This included an increase in net LNG imports of 17 MT. Many expected a strong increase in new LNG supplies would outpace demand growth during 2016. Instead, demand growth kept pace with supply as greater than expected demand in Asia and the Middle East absorbed the increase in supply from Australia, according to Shell’s first LNG Outlook. “Global LNG trade demonstrated its flexibility time and again in 2016, responding to shortfalls in national and regional gas supply and to new emerging demand,” said Maarten Wetselaar, Integrated Gas and New Energies Director at Shell.
