Combat System Integrator for Future Submarines

The Minister for Defence, Senator the Hon Marise Payne and the Minister for Defence Industry, The Hon Christopher Pyne MP today announced that Lockheed Martin Australia has been selected as the preferred Combat System Integrator for Australia's Future Submarine Program, subject to further discussion on commercial matters. Minister Payne said this is an important step in the development of Australia’s regionally superior future submarines. Mr Pyne said Lockheed Martin Australia intends to team with other Australian companies to provide the local engineering capacity needed to support the program. "Today's announcement again shows the Turnbull Government is setting a cracking pace on delivering on its commitment to build 12 regionally superior submarines in Adelaide," Mr Pyne said.

U.S. Navy Issues Modification To Lockheed Martin Contract

The U.S. Navy has issued a Lockheed Martin-led industry team a contract modification for one fully funded 2015 Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) valued at $362 million, along with $79 million in advanced procurement funding for a second ship. The balance of the second ship will be funded by Dec. 31, 2015. The advanced procurement dollars approved by Congress provides the funding required to maintain the cost and schedule of the final block buy option. The award also includes a priced option for one additional fiscal year 2016 ship.

Hellfire Missile Firing a First for New Navy Helicopters

The Royal Australian Navy’s newest maritime combat helicopter, the MH-60R Seahawk ‘Romeo’, has successfully fired its first ‘Hellfire’ missile in the United States. The AGM-114 Hellfire air-to-surface missile was fired by Navy’s 725 Squadron from aircraft currently deployed to the United States Navy’s Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Centre off the Florida coast. Commander Australian Fleet, Rear Admiral Stuart Mayer, said the Seahawk Romeo’s cutting edge mission systems provided a formidable naval platform. “Navy’s next generation submarine hunter and anti-surface warfare helicopter will be the cornerstone of our working Navy’s aviation combat capability.

DoD Contract Modification Awards to Lockheed Martin, BAE Systems

The U.S. Lockheed Martin Mission Systems and Training, Liverpool, New York, is being awarded a $31,777,262 modification to previously awarded contract (N00024-13-C-6292) to exercise options for the production of nine TB-37/U Multi-Function Towed Array (MFTA) production units, tow cables, electro-optical slip rings, drogues, and shipping products and the performance of engineering services. The TB-37/U MFTA is the next generation passive and active sonar receiver. It affords several enhancements to the AN/SQR-19 Tactical Towed Array System allowing greater coverage, increased capability/reliability, and reduced obsolescence. Lockheed Martin in Australian Wave Energy Project

Lockheed Martin says it has signed a contract with Victorian Wave Partners Ltd. to begin developing the world’s largest wave energy project yet. The 62.5-megawatt peak power wave energy generation project will be built off the coast of Victoria, Australia, using Ocean Power Technologies' (OPT) PowerBuoy® wave energy converter technology. The company’s PowerBuoy wave generation technology uses a "smart," ocean-going buoy to convert wave energy into low-cost, clean electricity. The buoy moves up and down with the rising and falling of waves.

China-U.S. Ocean Thermal Energy Plant Development

Lockheed Martin and Reignwood Group to develop South China Sea ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) power plant. A memorandum of agreement between the two companies was signed recently in Beijing. Following the ceremony, both companies met with United States Secretary of State John Kerry during his first official state visit to the People’s Republic of China. The 10-megawatt offshore plant, to be designed by Lockheed Martin, will be the largest OTEC project developed to date, supplying 100 percent of the power needed for a green resort to be built by Reignwood Group.

US Navy Awards Lockheed Martin Substantial EW Contract

U.S. Navy awards Lockheed Martin US$57-million contract to upgrade electronic warfare (EW) ship defense system. Under this low-rate production contract for Block 2 of the Navy's Surface Electronic Warfare Improvement Program (SEWIP), Lockheed Martin will upgrade the AN/SLQ-32(V)2 system found on all U.S. aircraft carriers, cruisers, destroyers and other warships with key capabilities to determine if the electronic sensors of potential foes are stalking the ship. "The SEWIP Block 2 upgrade will ensure the AN/SLQ-32 system continues to outpace the threat and establishes a framework to easily install future upgrades," said Joe Ottaviano , SEWIP program director for Lockheed Martin Mission Systems and Training.

Latest US DofD Navy Contracts Listed

Contract announcements by U.S. Department of Defense (DofD) updated to 26, November 2012. BAE Systems Mayport, Jacksonville, Fla., is being awarded a $6,880,388 contract to perform maintenance and repair work including hull, machinery, electrical, electronics and piping repairs as required during selected restricted availability onboard the USS Taylor (FFG 50). Work will be performed in Jacksonville, Fla., and is expected to be completed by April 2013. Raytheon Co., Sudbury, Mass., is being awarded a five-year $75,700,000 firm-fixed-price performance based logistics requirements contract to support the AEGIS MK 99 fire control systems and the SPY-1 transmitter items. Contract funds in the amount of $16,143,340 will be obligated at the time of award. Work will be performed in Norfolk, Va.

The Multi-Mission Combatant is an agile, modular vessel capable of speeds in excess of 40 knots. USN LCS 'Fort Worth' Delivered Early

The Lockheed Martin-led industry team delivers the nation's third Littoral Combat Ship, 'Fort Worth' (LCS 3) to the U.S. The delivery followed the ship's successful Acceptance Trials on Lake Michigan in May. The Lockheed Martin-led LCS team includes ship builder Marinette Marine Corporation, a Fincantieri company, naval architect Gibbs & Cox, as well as domestic and international teammates. Fort Worth (LCS 3) Completes Sea Trials

Nation's Third Littoral Combat Ship Successfully Completes Acceptance Trials. The nation's third Littoral Combat Ship, USS Fort Worth (LCS 3), successfully completed its U.S. Navy acceptance trials and will be delivered to the Navy this summer. Fort Worth is the second surface combatant designed and built by a Lockheed Martin-led industry team. The trials, conducted in Lake Michigan from April 30 to May 4, included a four-hour full-power run and both surface and air detect-to-engage demonstrations of the ship's combat management system.

Littoral Combat Ship Funding Boosted for Lockheed

Contract modification is for construction of Little Rock (LCS 9) and Sioux City (LCS 11). Construction on the first and second ships awarded under this contract, Milwaukee (LCS 5) and Detroit (LCS 7), is already underway. Two ships awarded under previous contracts include USS Freedom (LCS 1), currently being prepared for her next deployment, and Fort Worth (LCS 3), scheduled to be commissioned in September. Marinette Marine Corporation, a Fincantieri company, is building the ships in Marinette, Wis., with naval architect Gibbs & Cox of Arlington, Va. providing engineering support.

Third LCS Completes Builder's Trials

A Lockheed Martin-led industry team completed Builder's Sea Trials for Fort Worth, the nation's third littoral combat ship. The trials – a coordinated effort between the U.S. Navy and the Lockheed Martin team including Marinette Marine Corporation (MMC) – were conducted in the waters of Green Bay and Lake Michigan. They included operational testing of the vessel's propulsion, communications, navigation and mission systems, as well as all support systems. "Successful completion of Builder's Sea Trials means we are on track for the Navy's Acceptance Trials, putting us a big step closer to getting the Navy the ships it needs," said Joe North, vice president of littoral ship systems for Lockheed Martin's Mission Systems and Sensors business.

$118m Navy Deal for LM MS2

Lockheed Martin Mission Systems & Sensors (LM MS2), Moorestown, N.J., is being awarded a $118,646,449 fixed-price-incentive contract for the production of two multi-mission signal processor equipment sets; three ballistic missile defense 4.0.1 equipment sets; and five Aegis Weapon System upgraded equipment sets to support fielding Aegis modernization capabilities to the fleet. Sets will be delivered to USS Arleigh Burke (DDG 51); USS John Paul (DDG 53); USS Benfold (DDG 65); USS Barry (DDG 52); USS Princeton (CG 59); USS Cowpens (CG 63); and USS Gettysburg (CG 64). Work will be performed in Moorestown, N.J. (74 percent), Clearwater, Fla. (25 percent), and Akron, Ohio (1 percent). Work is expected to be completed by September 2013.
