Lockheed Martin Backs UK Cyber-Training Initiative

The British arm of U.S. defence major Lockheed Martin said on Friday it would back a UK government initiative to train students in cyber security to combat a growing skills gap in the area. Through the UK government's CyberFirst initiative, Lockheed Martin will sponsor a number of students across a three-year period and provide them with work placements during their studies. "There's an emerging cyber skills gap and it's vital that this gap is addressed," said Peter Ruddock, chief executive of Lockheed Martin UK. Launched in May 2016, CyberFirst is a work-study programme in online security targeted at students who are about to start university or are in their first year and run by the UK's National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC).

Ocean Mineral Singapore Contract for Seabed Exploration

Ocean Mineral Singapore Pte Ltd (OMS) has entered into a 15-year exploration contract for polymetallic nodules at a site within the Clarion-Clipperton Fracture Zone of the Pacific Ocean with the International Seabed Authority (ISA). Sponsored by the Singapore Government, OMS is the first Singaporean company to be awarded an exploration contract for polymetallic nodules. The contract signing ceremony took place between Mr Nii Allotey Odunton, Secretary-General of the ISA and Mr Ong Ye Kung, Director of OMS, and was witnessed by Guest-of-Honour, Mr Masagos Zulkifli Bin Masagos Mohamad, Minister, Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister for Home Affairs and Foreign Affairs, as well as Ambassador Tommy Koh, Singapore's Ambassador-at-Large, and Mr Loh Chin Hua, CEO of Keppel Corporation.

Ocean Mineral Singapore Set for Seabed Exploration

Ocean Mineral Singapore Pte. Ltd. (OMS) has received approval from the International Seabed Authority (ISA) on its application for its first seabed exploration licence. Over the next few months, OMS will work with ISA to finalise the terms of contract for the award of the licence. The licence will allow exploration for polymetallic nodules at a site within the Clarion-Clipperton Fracture Zone of the Pacific. OMS is a Singapore-incorporated company majority owned by Keppel Corporation, with UK Seabed Resources Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of London-based Lockheed Martin UK Holdings Ltd, and Singapore-based private investment company Lion City Capital Partners Pte. Ltd., as minority shareholders.

Deepwater Seabed Minerals Exploration Project

Keppel Corporation forms, Ocean Mineral Singapore Pte., to explore for polymetallic nodules several kilometres beneath the ocean's surface. Polymetallic nodules contain copper, nickel, cobalt and manganese, as well as rare earth minerals, and have the potential of supplying these key metals to meet growing global demand in applications as diverse as construction, aerospace and alternative energy. OMS has applied to the International Seabed Authority (ISA) for its first seabed exploration licence which will be considered by the ISA in July. Lockheed Martin: Integrates Nav System on Ice Patrol Ship

Lockheed Martin UK has completed the installation of its Warship Electronic Chart Display and Information System (WECDIS) on board HMS Protector, the Royal Navy’s new Antarctic ice patrol vessel. Following installation, HMS Protector conducted and passed her WECDIS digital accreditation process, enabling her to undertake Antarctic patrol operational commitments with the Royal Navy. OSI Wins Royal Navy Deal

Offshore Systems International Ltd. said that its Navigation Systems unit has been selected for a major fleet-wide contract with the Royal Navy. OSI, as part of a successful teaming arrangement with Lockheed Martin UK and Kelvin Hughes Ltd., will begin to deliver ECPINS-M software to the Royal Navy fleet in mid-2004. The initial purchases total approximately CDN $3 million. The total contract value, including long term support and options for auxiliary systems and software development is approximately CDN $17.5 million. "Winning this contract is a significant milestone in the growth of our company," said John Jacobson, President and CEO of OSI. "The Royal Navy's selection has validated years of development work and reinforced our approach to this market.

Lockheed U.K. Unit Wins Contract from Royal Navy

AFX has reported that Lockheed Martin Corp said its British unit, Lockheed Martin U.K., has been awarded a seven-year contract by the U.K. Royal Navy to upgrade the sonar systems on four Vanguard Class ballistic missile submarines. Lockheed Martin said more than 70 percent of the work will be performed in the U.K. It added the work is being carried out because the submarines' current sonar systems are at risk of becoming obsolete.
