Schottel Building New Logistics Center in Dörth, Germany

Maritime propulsion specialist Schottel said Tuesday it is expanding its thruster factory in Dörth, Germany, to include a logistics center with a capacity of around 4,000 square meters.A contract for the expansion has now been signed with general contractor Goldbeck from Koblenz.The new building will be annexed to the existing facility and will provide 2,634 square meters of industrial floor space and 1,326 square meters of offices. Thrustmaster to Overhaul Thrusters on USCG Buoy Tenders

Thrustmaster of Texas on Tuesday announced it has been awarded a contract to overhaul the thrusters for the U.S. Coast Guard’s 175-foot WLM vessels.The multiyear contract, awarded by the U.S. Coast Guard Surface Force Logistics Center (SFLC), will see Thrustmaster fully overhaul to a like-new status the primary propulsion system for these icebreaker/buoy and construction tenders.This effort will allow the Coast Guard to continue to support the important missions of these vessels for years to come. Meyer Werft Opens Automated Shipyard Logistics Center

German shipbuilder Meyer Werft said it has commenced operations in its new automated shipyard logistics center, enabling the flow of goods to be managed completely automatically and bundled into one place.The investment in the new center with its fully automated high-bay warehouse for 25,000 storage units amounted to more than €35 million ($41.7 million) and took around two years to complete.The 30-meter high high-bay warehouse stores 25,000 load units of all material that has standard dimensions, i.e. fits on a standard euro pallet.

Tradepoint Atlantic Dry Dock Back in Action

Tradepoint Atlantic, a 3,300-acre multimodal global logistics center in Baltimore, Md., said its dry dock will return to service this week after last being used in 2017. BAE Systems’ Titan dry dock departed is scheduled to arrive in Baltimore and dock at Tradepoint Atlantic’s onsite dry dock to undergo a five-month-long repair and maintenance program starting Thursday.Used in Norfolk, Va. for servicing ships as long as 1,000 feet, BAE Systems' massive Titan dry dock has a 52,534-ton lifting capacity and is one of the world’s largest and most modern floating steel dry docks.

Busan Builds Logistics Center in Rotterdam

South Korean port company Busan Port Authority (BPA) said that it signed a contract with Samsung SDS to operate a logistics center in Rotterdam.BPA will begin a construction of the logistics center in September this year and complete and operate it in around June 2021.Samsung SDS, a subsidiary of Samsung group has been providing information technology services,  will provide comprehensive logistics services for small and medium-sized companies conducting business between Europe and South-Korea for 10 years from the opening of the logistics center.The signing ceremony was attended by Hong Won-pyo, CEO of Samsung SDS, as well as Joanne Doornewaard, Dutch Ambassador in South-Korea and officials from the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.

Meyer Werft to Launch 3 Cruise Ships in 2020

German shipyard Meyer Werft GmbH & Co. KG is all set to to launch three cruise ships in 2020. During the shipyard has handed over three modern cruise ships to international cruise lines. "In the last twelve months alone, we have taken on 395 new employees in Papenburg, thus enlarging our team to more than 3625 people. We continue to recruit new col-leagues in all parts of the shipyard," said Tim Meyer, Managing Director of Meyer Werft.The shipyard has taken on all the 45 trainees who passed their final examinations. Moreover, a further 16 trainee positions have been instigated to ensure that that the future workforce receives the necessary qualifications directly on the shipyard.At the same time, Meyer Werft continues to invest in its state-of-the-art shipyard facilities.

USCG Buoy Tenders Set for Engine Overhauls

Last week Fincantieri Marine Systems North America (FMSNA) was awarded a $9.6 million contract to perform maintenance and repairs to the U.S. Coast Guard’s fleet of Inland Buoy Tenders.The multi-year contract was awarded by the Coast Guard’s Surface Force Logistics Center in Virginia. Liebherr Delivers New LHM 800 to Bronka Port

Swiss multinational equipment manufacturer Liebherr has delivered  mobile harbor crane LHM 800 to  Russian port Bronka. It was carried by mv Trina. This is the second crane of such model in the port.The LHM 800 is the most powerful mobile harbor crane in the world with a lifting capacity of over 300 tons.Owing to its huge dimensions the crane handles large vessels with a breadth of up to 22 rows of containers, said the company.The unique crane will be set in operation within a month after customs clearance, assembling works, testing, registration procedure and insurance.After that port Bronka is able to handle heavy lifts up to 500 tons by tandem of cranes (LHM 800) what proves its status of the project logistics center in the North-West of Russia.

Vietnam to Build Two Terminals in Lach Huyen Port

Vietnam National Shipping Lines (Vinalines), the state-owned marine transporter, won approval recently to build two large container terminals at Lach Huyen Port in northern Hai Phong City in a 7 trillion dong ($302 million) project.According to Nguyen Canh Tinh, director of the state-run Vietnam National Shipping Lines (Vinalines), said its subsidiary, Haiphong Port JSC, would build terminals No.3 and No.4 at the port.He said the Haiphong Port JSC used to work mainly at Hoang Dieu terminal, which has now been taken over for the construction of an urban area, and so new terminals are needed in its place.The two proposed terminals would have a total length of 750 meters and the capacity to handle vessels of up to 100…

Ferry Vessel Dagestan Completes Modernization

The vessel "Dagestan" with a length of 154.5 and a width of 18.3 meters was built in 1984 in Pula, the former Yugoslavia (currently Croatia). It was decided to repair and upgrade the ferry "Dagestan", withdrawn from operations 5 years ago. Modernization of the ferry, which is one of the unique vessels of its time, was completely executed by the engineering and technical personnel of the Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company at the "Zigh" Ship Repair and Construction Yard. It should be noted that the project of modernization, the first in the history of the Shipping Company, was also developed by the personnel of the Shipping Company. Whole ferry management systems have been modernized. One of the main works is performed in the engine room.

Oakland Port Okays Seaport Logistics Complex

A long-held vision to revitalize this city’s decommissioned Army base is nearer reality at the Port of Oakland. Port Commissioners have given initial approval to a landmark deal with CenterPoint Properties for a logistics center at the former base. The tentative agreement caps nearly 15 years of planning for the most-anticipated Port growth project ever. Port officials said today that the agreement includes unprecedented commitments to hire local workers. “The future is at hand,” said Port of Oakland Executive Director Chris Lytle. The Board of Port Commissioners voted initial approval of the agreement last night. It comes up for final vote Nov. 30. If Commissioners say yes a second time, the deal becomes official in January.

APM Terminals Vado, Italy Managing Director Paolo Cornetto highlighted the future role of the deepwater APM Terminals Vado facility, now under construction, as a new southern gateway to Central Europe. “We designed our new port around liner customers - and our landside customers – the importers, exporters and truckers - to help them do more business by tapping into the 70 million-member consumer market of northern Italy, southern Germany, Switzerland, Austria and eastern France within an eight hour proximity of our port," he said. "We will offer a fully-automated gate complex – the first of any Italian port - to get truckers in and out faster and safer.
