Maersk Opens New Logistics Center in Vietnam

Danish logistics conglomerate Maersk launches its new logistics center in Bac Ninh to address the needs of a high-demand North Vietnam market.The new warehouse offers premium Warehousing and Distribution solutions to support our customers and the significant trade growth in the region.On December 11th, 2019, the official opening ceremony for the new logistics center took place in Bac Ninh, Vietnam in the presence of Danish Ambassador to Vietnam Mr. Kim Højlund Christensen, Vietbeko Head of Supply Chain Mr. Quang Le and Maersk senior executives. Constructed by Mapletree Logistics Park Bac Ninh Phase 3 (Viet Nam), the 11,000 square-meter warehouse is strategically located inside the VSIP Industrial Park in Bac Ninh, within 25km to Hanoi centre and 120km to Hai Phong port.

Huelva, Enagás Launch Cold Logistics Hub

DFDS, Volvo Pact on Autonomous Transport

The ferry and logistics company DFDS has entered into a collaboration with Volvo Trucks concerning their electric, connected and autonomous vehicle Vera.The Danish international shipping and logistics company said in a press release that the aim is to develop and test an integrated solution for transporting goods from a logistics centre to a port terminal in Gothenburg, Sweden, using Vera.The collaboration will implement Vera in a real application, enabling a connected system for a continuous flow of goods, from a DFDS logistics centre to an APM terminal in the port, for distribution across the world.In 2018, Volvo Trucks presented its first electric, connected and autonomous solution, designed for repetitive assignments in logistics centres, factories and ports.

Port of Baku Pact with European Logistics Hub

IJmuiden Sea Lock Getting Ready

The construction activities on the site of the new sea lock in IJmuiden are in full swing, said Port of Amsterdam.More than 200,000 m3 of concrete have now been poured and still more will be poured in January and February, including concrete for the inner lock head (number 1 in the picture) and for the lock chamber (number 3 in the picture).Also in January and February, work will continue on the completion of the lock gates and on the local control buildings - which are now taking shape (numbers 4 in the picture).After a 44-day voyage from South Korea via Cape of Good Hope, the lock gates for the new sea lock finally arrived in the Netherlands on 6 December.

China Merchant Port Holdings Pays USD 584 mln to Hambantota Port

China Merchants Port Holdings (CM Port) has invested the final tranche of USD 584.2 million in Sri Lanka’s Hambantota Port after acquiring an 85 percent stake in the port last year. The cheque to the effect was handed over to the Chairman of Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) – Dr.Parakrama Dissanayake by the Chief Representative of China Merchant Group in Sri Lanka - Mr.Ray Ren in the presence of senior port officials and representatives of CM Port. This makes the single highest ever Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) received by Sri Lanka to date. This third final tranche in the amount of US $ 584,194,800 follows the 1st, a 2nd tranches released in December last year and January 2018, in amounts US $ 292 million and US $ 97 million.

DP World to Invest $1bn in Expansion

DP World is planning to annually inject up to $1 billion in global investments until 2020, local media quoted company chairman and CEO Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem as saying. The expansion at Prince Rupert in Canada opened for business. DP World Limassol in Cyprus opened a new cruise terminal. DP World to Expand in African Market

DP World Group Chairman and CEO Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem has met with Senegalese President Macky Sall as part of a tour of West and North Africa to confirm development of infrastructure projects in the country. The discussions, attended by Prime Minister Mohammed Dionne and senior government officials, confirmed the plan for Port Du Futur with construction to start before the end of 2018 together with agreement on land allocation for the associated freezone. Meanwhile, DP World will also provide a master plan for redevelopment of the old port of Dakar. Other topics included customs and logistics in the country. Port de Futur will be a multi-purpose port with an economic zone and logistics zone adjacent to new Blaise Diagne International Airport.

SOHAR Port Breaks Container Throughput Record

SOHAR has released new figures showing a solid first-half of 2017, as both the Port and Freezone continue to play a crucial role in the diversification and globalisation of Oman’s economy. DP World London Now Handles Far East Calls

MOL Triumph, the first of the world’s largest and newest vessels to call in the UK, arrives in Southampton on THE Alliance's FE2 service as new third deep-water berth opened at London Gateway in April, ahead of first regular Asia-Europe service starting. DP World's UK terminals will welcome the first services from the Far East following a global shake-up of the world’s shipping lines. Inaugural calls of Asia/Europe services by THE Alliance, a shipping consortium made up of Mitsui O.S.K Line, Yang Ming, NYK, K-Line and Hapag Lloyd/UASC, will see the largest vessel to ever call at a UK port berth at DP World Southampton this Thursday, May 11.

New Container Facility at DP World London Gateway

A new off-dock empty container storage yard is to be opened at DP World London Gateway Port. The five acre yard will be operated and managed by Solent Stevedores, an award-winning stevedoring company with a broad range of bulk and general cargo handling and storage services at ports in Southampton, Jersey, Immingham and London. The facility will be located on Berth 7, outside of the terminal’s ISPS perimeter but adjacent to the port’s main gate. A number of associated container services will also be offered by Solent Stevedores from the site. Work to develop the yard will commence next month, with it then due to become operational by the first quarter of 2018.

Kiel’s Forest Products Center Launched

Kiel’s new forest products handling and distribution centre has gone into operation in the Ostuferhafen. This means that the port has now become an integral part of the logistics chain operated by the Swedish concerns Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget (SCA) and Iggesund Paperboard. Dr Dirk Claus, Managing Director of the Port of Kiel (SEEHAFEN KIEL GmbH & Co. KG) said: “We have created a terminal in the Ostuferhafen which is tailor-made to the requirements of our customers. In addition to that, Kiel’s geographical location fits very well into the SCA liner network”. SCA cargo ships from Sundsvall have been calling at the Ostuferhafen once a week since the beginning of the month, offloading 6,000 tons of forest products with each visit.

DMCA Showcases Local Maritime Leadership

Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA) showcased Dubai's global maritime leadership in the presence of a high-level delegation from City of Glasgow College who commended the manner in which the outstanding experiences of the UAE maritime sector has transformed it into an internationally renowned maritime community. This was done during a visit by an academic delegation from the UK College to the DMCA head office in Dubai to promote collaboration in the vital fields of maritime training, research and studies. Amer Ali, Executive Director of the DMCA, accompanied the guests on a tour of Drydocks World which has been instrumental in achieving the ambitious aspiration of developing Dubai into one of the global Top Ten in terms of maritime efficiency, attractiveness, and competitiveness.

Record Freight Handled by Antwerp Port

The port of Antwerp is set to achieve a freight volume of more than 200 million tonnes for the first time ever in 2015. When it comes to containers Antwerp is performing extremely well this year: with expected growth of almost 8% it will easily pass the milestone of 9 million TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units, i.e. standard containers) for the first time in its history. About half of the container volume is currently handled in the port area on the Right bank of the Scheldt, but once the Swiss shipping company MSC transfers its operations to the Deurganck dock then the Left bank will inevitably become the main focus of container handling in Antwerp.

First Warehouse at Caucedo Logistics Center Opened

The first warehouse at the Caucedo Logistics Centre has been officially opened at a special ceremony in the Dominican Republic by President Danilo Medina Sanchez and HE Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Chairman of DP World. The Caucedo Logistics Centre is a joint venture between DP World and Caucedo Development Corporation. It provides regional distribution facilities for foreign and Dominican businesses connecting them to a comprehensive, efficient, logistics multimodal network provided by the Port of Caucedo which is operated by DP World. Phase 1 will see the development of warehousing over 4.3 million sq/ft (40 hectares) and a further 8.61 million sq/ft (80 hectares) developed in Phase 2. Timing will be in line with market demand.

MCS Adds London Stop to Australia Express Service

The MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company S.A Australia Express Service will begin calling at DP World London Gateway Port, the U.K.’s newest deep-sea terminal, following changes to the service. The service will now provide direct calls between DP World London Gateway Port, King Abdullah port in Saudi Arabia, Colombo in Sri Lanka and ports around the Australian coast. It will reportedly be the fastest direct service between Northern Europe and Australia in the market. The call is a new trade lane into DP World London Gateway Port, further enhancing the suite of services on offer to U.K.

DP World Opens London Gateway Logistics Centre

DP World's first distribution centre at the London Gateway Logistics Park opened officially, with the UK's shipping minister, Robert Goodwill MP, in attendance. Goodwill and DP World chairman, Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, formalised the opening of the centre during a ribbon cutting ceremony. The first phase of this high tech unit, which comprises 16,800m² (180,000 sq ft) of distribution and logistics space and 2,400m² (25,000 sq ft) of office space, has been finished to BREEAM “very good” standard. Based on market demand, DP World is now planning to increase the size of the centre to 36,000m². “DP World London Gateway is an excellent example of the benefits inward investment brings to UK infrastructure and the economy.

Multi-Purpose Common User Facility At DP World London Gateway

In another milestone in the development of its London Gateway Logistics Park, DP World has announced Buckingham Group has been awarded the contract to build the Common User Facility (CUF). Following a period of ground preparation and development of key infrastructure by DP World, Buckingham Group is now mobilising to start construction, with the new logistics centre planned for completion in Q1 2015. Culina Group to Set Base at Peel Group's Port Salford

Food and drink logistics giant, Culina Group, has been announced as the first major tenant at the new National Import Centre being developed by the Peel Group, as part of its multi-million pound Port Salford development (located approximately 6 miles (9.7 km) west of Manchester City Centre in the UK). Culina Group will take occupation of the first warehouse distribution unit to be built on the Port Salford site - the UK’s first tri-modal inland port facility and Distribution Park, accessible by rail, road and short sea-shipping. The property comprises 26,022 sq. m. (280,000 sq. ft.) of accommodation, including ancillary offices, service yard and parking.

Baku Calls Upon Antwerp’s Port Expertise

The port of Baku on the Black Sea is Azerbaijan’s largest port. Now to support its further development it is calling on the know-how and expertise of the port of Antwerp. For this purpose the management of Baku International Sea Trade Port recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with two subsidiaries of Antwerp Port Authority, namely Port of Antwerp International (PAI) and Antwerp Port Training Centre (APEC), for them to provide consultancy and training. The co-signatories on the Antwerp side were Jan Blomme and Paul Verkoyen, the respective CEOs of PAI and APEC. “This agreement is the direct result of a visit to Antwerp in May this year by the Director-General of the port of Baku, Taleh Ziyadov,” explained Jan Blomme.

Rotterdam Subsea Cable Centre Set Up by NKT

NKT Cables has established a submarine cable Logistics Centre, with a 9.000 and 4,600 tonne turntable capacity at Rotterdam’s deep-water port in the Netherlands. The company informs that with its unique cable splicing technology, NKT Cables can connect long single cable lengths together to form extra-long continuous submarine cables, enabling load-outs of up to 6,000 tonnes - and even more - in one campaign to any cable laying vessel. Extra-long lengths up to more than 30 km of submarine cable have been produced and loaded in a single, continuous length from the new site in Rotterdam.

Liebherr Expects Turnover Dip

For the 2014 business year, the Liebherr Group is currently anticipating an overall turnover of 8,866 million euros (2013: 8,964 million euros). In the area of construction machines and mining, a decline is expected. For the other areas, the 2014 figures are higher than the previous year’s. The Liebherr Group’s overall turnover is expected to be 8,866 million euros in this business year. Compared with the turnover from 2013, this is a slight drop of about 98 million euros, or 1%.
