Asia-U.S. Trade to Grow 7%

About 500 people gathered at the Long Beach Convention Center for the event, which brings together a panel of shipping and trade experts to offer their perspectives on industry trends and how they affect the San Pedro Bay port complex. One of the panelists, Drewry Maritime Research Senior Quantitative Economist Mario Moreno, predicted Asia-U.S. trade will grow 6.8 percent in 2018, the fastest pace in more than half-a-dozen years. He also estimated the overall U.S. economy will expand 2.8 percent. While President Donald Trump and China have proposed higher tariffs, an all-out trade war between China and the United States appears unlikely, according to Moreno. “Both nations have a lot to lose,” Moreno said.

Long Beach Port 'on track for green future'

The Port of Long Beach sails into 2017 propelled by transformative modernization projects all across the harbor, excellent financial health, an industry-leading record of environmental progress, and a strong commitment to working with the City and neighbors, said Harbor Department leaders Wednesday morning at the annual “State of the Port” event. Megaship Benjamin Franklin to Call at Seattle and Long Beach

In a history-making run, the largest container ship  CMA CGM Benjamin Franklin will arrive in Seattle Monday, Feb. 29 after visits in Long Beach and Oakland, California. It will visit Long Beach Thursday bringing goods from China. Although the event is not public, people should be able to see the ship from the waterfront area east of the Long Beach Convention Center, and from sections of Alamitos Beach, said Art Wong, a Port of Long Beach spokesman. The 1,310-foot-long container vessel of CMA CGM called at the Port of Oakland after leaving Los Angeles in December, then sailed to China on Jan. 4. It reached Xiamen, China Jan. 30, later calling at the ports of Nansha, Hong Kong and Yantian before leaving for Long Beach Feb. 4. It will stay in Long Beach until Feb. 24.

Long Beach Trade Luncheon Celebrates Women

A heavy equipment operator, port construction manager, shoe company executive and maritime university student encouraged Long Beach young women to explore careers in shipping industry at this week’s fifth annual Celebrating Women in Trade luncheon. More than 300 people attended the Nov. 17 event, including 160 local female high school students. The educational outreach event, first created during the Port of Long Beach’s 100th anniversary, was held at the Grand Ballroom of the Long Beach Convention Center. Calif. Forum Examines Transport ‘Beyond Traffic’

U.S. Maritime Administrator Paul “Chip” Jaenichen and Long Beach Vice Mayor Suja Lowenthal today hosted the third of 11 nationwide regional forums on the Beyond Traffic draft framework at Long Beach Convention Center. The Beyond Traffic report examines the trends and choices facing America’s transportation infrastructure over the next three decades, including a rapidly growing population, increasing freight volume, demographic shifts in rural and urban areas and a transportation system facing more frequent extreme weather events.

Port of Long Beach Hosts Cargo Forecast Event

Experts from across the goods movement industry spoke at the 11th annual “Pulse of the Ports: Peak Season Forecast,” an event hosted by the Port of Long Beach that drew 600 people to the Long Beach Convention Center’s Pacific Ballroom to hear how current trends will affect trade throughout the rest of the year. While the annual event explores the cargo forecast, this year’s session also discussed the recent challenges of cargo movement and how the supply chain is evolving to cope with demands for higher efficiency and improved reliability.

In his first-ever State of the Port address, Port of Long Beach Chief Executive Jon Slangerup on Thursday unveiled plans for congestion-beating smart systems for cargo movement and an all-out push to achieve energy resilience for port operations with wind turbines, solar cells and other clean technologies. Speaking to an audience of nearly 900 at the Long Beach Convention Center’s Pacific Ballroom, Slangerup summed up the Port of Long Beach’s achievements in 2014 then gave his expectations for 2015 and beyond, setting high goals for himself and the port.

Speaking to a record audience of nearly 900 at the Long Beach Convention Center’s Pacific Ballroom, Slangerup summed up the Port of Long Beach’s achievements in 2014 then gave his expectations for 2015 and beyond, setting high goals for himself and the Port. Moose Boats Launches New Design

Moose Boats announced its latest boat design, the S3000, an outboard catamaran, during the Fred Hall Fishing Tackle and Boat Show, March 6 - 10, at the Long Beach Convention Center. With twin Yamaha 225 HP, four-stroke, fuel injected outboards and the catamaran design; the S3000 has a top end speed of 40 knots and a cruise speed of 32 knots. The overall length is 32.5 ft. and weighs approximately 8,800 lbs. dry and holds 300 gallons of fuel, which provides a comfortable 450 mile range. Moose Boats only builds aluminum catamarans. The S3000 is the first outboard fishing boat that takes full advantage of this stable cat design. The all welded aluminum hull makes the S3000 a rugged, all weather boat that can handle the most demanding sea conditions.
