BIO-UV to Supply BWTS for Luxury Ritz Carlton Cruisers

New Eco-friendly Expedition Cruise Ship in the Works

Rolls-Royce said it has signed a deal with WestSea Yard, part of Martifer Group, to equip an expeditionary oceanic cruise ship for Portuguese based cruise company Mystic Cruises. The vessel, to be called the MS World Explorer, will be the company’s first expeditionary oceanic cruise ship. The MS World Explorer will offer expeditionary cruise itineraries in Antarctica from November to March and this new vessel’s inaugural Antarctic season is already fully chartered to, and being distributed globally by, Polar Cruise Company Quark Expeditions.

INS Viraat on its last Journey

The INS Viraat is on the last journey and the ship is being towed back by three tugs to Mumbai for the decommissioning. SCI Mukta, an Anchor Handling & Towing Vessel (AHTS) of the National Flagship Carrier i.e. The Shipping Corporation of India Ltd., has commenced towing the aircraft carrier; INS Viraat at 0700 hrs on 23rd October 2016 from Cochin to Mumbai. It will be decommissioned at Mumbai and its expected date of arrival at Mumbai on 29th October 2016. INS Viraat is the oldest aircraft carrier in the world has completed the decommissioning refit in Cochin Shipyard on 04th September 2016. The ship arrived Cochin in last July for Essential Repairs and Dry Docking (ERDD) prior to the decommissioning.

U.S. Navy Admiral Pleads Guilty to Bribery

A U.S. Navy rear admiral pleaded guilty on Thursday to a charge of lying to federal investigators, making him the highest-ranking officer to be convicted in the expanding "Fat Leonard" bribery case. Robert Gilbeau, 55, a special assistant to the chief of the Navy Supply Corps, appeared in U.S. District Court in San Diego late Thursday afternoon, accompanied by his lawyer and a fluffy white dog he said helped him monitor his health. Prosecutors said Gilbeau lied when he told investigators that he had not accepted gifts from Leonard Glenn Francis, whose contracts to clean, stock and maintain U.S. Pacific Fleet ships are at the center of the $30 million bribery case. Highest Officer in US Navy Bribe Scheme Sentenced to 46 Months

A federal judge in San Diego on Friday sentenced a U.S. Navy captain caught in a $30 million bribery scandal to 46 months in prison, bringing to a close the case against the highest-ranking officer in the fraud scheme. Captain Daniel Dusek, 49, pleaded guilty last year to a charge of conspiracy to commit bribery after admitting he accepted services from prostitutes, luxury hotel stays, alcohol and other gifts in exchange for giving classified information to the Singapore-based company Glenn Defense Marine Asia. The firm headed by Malaysian businessman Leonard Glenn Francis, who has been dubbed "Fat Leonard," held over $200 million in contracts to clean, stock and maintain U.S. Pacific Fleet ships.

U.S. Navy Commander Guilty in Corruption Scandal

A U.S. Navy commander charged with accepting paid travel, prostitutes and Lady Gaga concert tickets from a Malaysian defense contractor in exchange for classified information pleaded guilty on Thursday to federal corruption charges. Commander Michael Vannak Khem Misiewicz appeared in U.S. District Court in San Diego to answer to charges of conspiracy to commit bribery and bribery of a public official stemming from his involvement in a scandal surrounding a contractor who serviced ships in the Navy's Pacific Fleet. Misiewicz admitted to providing Malaysian businessman Leonard Francis, known to friends as "Fat Leonard," classified information worth millions of dollars. He was born in Cambodia during the Vietnam War and gained media attention for his rise to captain of a U.S. Navy destroyer.

U.S. A lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy pleaded guilty to bribery charges in federal court, admitting that he accepted cash, hotel expenses and the services of a prostitute in return for providing classified U.S. Navy ship schedules and other internal Navy information to an executive of a defense contracting firm. Assistant Attorney General Leslie R. Caldwell of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division, U.S. Attorney Laura E. Duffy of the Southern District of California, Deputy Inspector General for Investigations James B. Burch of the Defense Criminal Investigative Service (DCIS), Director Andrew L. Traver of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) and Director Anita Bales of the Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) made the announcement.

Floating hotel draws workers to NW Canada boom town

Hundreds of construction workers in booming northern British Columbia will take up residence this week in unique digs on board a cruise ferry revamped into a floating luxury hotel. The aging ship will help relieve a housing shortage in one busy Canadian port town already bursting ahead of a promised energy boom that could last more than a decade. The Silja Festival - a Baltic ferry made over as the Delta Spirit Lodge - will spend at least a year docked outside Kitimat, British Columbia, where it will provide housing for about 600 workers in town for Rio Tinto Alcan's $3.3 billion smelter-upgrade project, which is expected to wrap up in 2015.

MJM Group Buys Mivan

MJM Group Chairman Brian McConville announced that he has bought Mivan out of administration. Established in 1983 by the McConville family, MJM Group refurbishes Cruise Liners, Ferries, Super Yachts, luxury hotel and leisure facilities, office and retail and private residential. Mivan, one of Northern Ireland's best known construction companies, was founded by Ivan McCabrey in 1975 and specialized in fitting out cruise ships and high-end commercial and residential developments. Earlier this week, Mivan announced that they have ceased trading, but this news means that the Mivan brand will continue. “There are obvious synergies between the two operations which will allow us great efficiencies and economies of scale.

Fincantieri — which is comprised of seven shipyards and two centers for ship design, with the one in Trieste being the largest in Europe — has developed a long tradition in designing and building ships, with more than 200 years of history marked by the construction of more than 7,000 ships. While the entirety of the Fincantieri system is geared toward generating technically superior products, it can be said, simply, that the Italians build beautiful cruise ships.

Sea Containers Approves Hotel Subsidiary Spin-Off

Sea Containers Ltd., which runs marine passenger transport and leases equipment, on Friday said its shareholders approved resolutions to permit the spin-off of its luxury hotel subsidiary Orient-Express Hotels Ltd. Sherwood also said net income at Sea Containers for the first half of 2001 should top that of the prior year's first-half, while Orient-Express Hotels expects to report higher earnings for 2001 than for 2000. Sea Containers' president James Sherwood said it was still the company's intention to divest the majority of its shares in Orient-Express around the end of the year. Before that time, the company plans to sell about 5 million shares, in blocks.
