IMCA Issues Reactivation of DP Vessels After Layup Information Note

Following a period of improving industry metrics during 2017, the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) has recognized that member companies could now consider reactivating their owned and managed DP vessels following a period of layup, and has issued a focused information note on this.IMCA’s Technical Adviser – Marine, Captain Andy Goldsmith, said, “In the right circumstances there is no reason why a reactivated DP vessel should not re-enter service in a better condition than when it was laid up, and with increased cyber security measures implemented.

IRClass Sets up Advisory Committee in Singapore

The Indian Register of Shipping (IRClass) held the first meeting of its Advisory Committee in Singapore. The purpose of the committee, which draws members from Singapore’s leading maritime and offshore companies, is to give expert guidance to IRClass in strengthening its relationship with the Lion Republic’s maritime cluster and across South East Asia. “In our relatively short existence to date, we have gone some way beyond the simple provision of classification services,” he said. “Life begins at 40, they say,” he added. The committee discussed the aims and objectives of IRClass in Singapore and South East Asia, and advised IRClass to focus on educating the markets not only on its classification capability but the range of its portfolio of services.

STX Marine is pleased to report the launching of Hallin Marine’s Compact Semi-Submersible, CSS Derwent. The event took place at Drydocks World Nanindah’s yard in Batam, Indonesia. The CSS Derwent was launched on 5 June 2012 and has an expected delivery at the end of 2012. The CSS concept has been developed by STX Marine, in partnership with Hallin Marine; Minnow Marine Projects Limited and M3 Marine, over a five year period to capture the capabilities and low-motion behavior of a semi-submersible vessel in the smallest form feasible, giving an industry-leading design in terms of operability.

LNG Demand to Drive Offshore Growth in Asia

Singapore – Soaring demand for liquefied natural gas (LNG) across Asia is driving major new investments into exploration and infrastructure capabilities.
