Maersk Line is to deliver two of its containerships, the Maersk Wyoming and Maersk Georgia, for recycling at the Shree Ram yard, Alang in the Indian state of Gujarat later this month. The Maersk Wyoming and the Maersk Georgia, two Maersk Line container vessels, are expected in Alang late May 2016. The vessels will be recycled at the Shree Ram yard in Alang which is certified to the standards of the Hong Kong Convention. Out of a total of 768 ships recycled globally in 2015, 469 – representing 74 percent of the total gross tonnage scrapped - were sold to facilities on beaches in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh with challenges to workers and the environment.

The Kingdom of Bahrain’s Arab Shipbuilding & Repair Yard Co (ASRY) has turned in a profitable first quarter of 2012 despite the continued shipping recession and increased competition in the region. As of the beginning of May ASRY was running at close to capacity and had work in hand for the next 12 weeks. Nautical Control Solutions (NCS) announced that Buffalo Marine Service of Houston successfully tested its FuelTrax bunkering system on a delivery of 1,500 metric tons of IFO 500 to Maersk Wyoming, a 292-meter container ship operated by Maersk Line, the liner shipping activity of the A.P. Moller – Maersk Group (MAERSKB:Copenhagen). The test took place on August 26, 2009 at Barbours Cut terminal at the Port of Houston. The crew of Buffalo 401k pumped at the rate of 250 metric tons per hour, with accuracy measured to less than 0.1% between the barge and the ship. Accuracy was verified by Maersk Wyoming’s own in-line mass flow meter. The FuelTrax-based system provides real-time measurement of bunker deliveries irrespective of product type, viscosity, or temperature.

Maersk Line, Ltd has completed a recapitalization of its U.S. flag container fleet. The effort involved an investment of nearly $400m for the purchase and reflagging of nine ships into the U.S. registry. In keeping with its commitment to provide world-class U.S. flag transportation services, MLL's recapitalization plan called for the company to remove nine older, smaller ships from its U.S. fleet and replace them with larger, faster and more modern U.S. flag tonnage. Maritime Administration officials said that Maersk Lines, Limited, a U.S.-flag vessel operator and Maritime Security Program (MSP) contractor for the U.S. government, are in the process of replacing nine of its militarily-useful, U.S.-flag containerships in the MSP with nine newer and more efficient ships. The Maritime Administration manages the MSP, which leverages commercially viable, militarily-useful, privately-owned vessels and inter-modal assets to meet national defense and other security requirements. Maersk’s 2008 request for the change was approved and coordinated with the Department of Defense’s U.S. Transportation Command after the Maritime Administration found that the proposed replacement vessels met or exceeded the eligibility requirements of the Maritime Security Program.
