Samuelsson to Head MAN B&W Diesel AG

The supervisory board of MAN B&W Diesel AG, a subsidiary of MAN AG, Munich, has appointed Håkan Samuelsson as its new chairman, effective January 1, 2005. In this position he will follow Dr. Rudolf Rupprecht who resigns as chairman as of December 31, 2004. Samuelsson will also act as “working chairman” as of February 2005 and take over for the time being the responsibilities for the MAN B&W Diesel Group’s overall policies and strategies. Currently chairman of the executive board of MAN Nutzfahrzeuge AG, he will become chairman of the executive board of MAN AG as of January 1, 2005, succeeding Dr. Rudolf Rupprecht. Schulte Retires from MAN B&W

After 32 years of service with MAN, Dr. Hans-J. Schulte, Member of the Executive Board of MAN AG (Munich) and Chairman of the MAN B&W Diesel Executive Board, officially retired from professional life today. At the farewell celebration attended by 150 guests, Håkan Samuelsson, Chairman of the Executive Board of MAN AG and Chairman of MAN B&W Diesel AG’s Supervisory Board emphasised: “Thanks to his international experience and his extensive knowledge of the diesel engine markets worldwide, Dr. Schulte has always been able to give fresh impetus to the Executive Board of the MAN Group and has pushed the diesel engine division decisively forward.” At the end of January, Dr. Hans-J. Schulte will retire from professional life.

HDW Stake to go to MAN unit

A unit of Germany's MAN AG reportedly confirmed to a major news agency that it would buy a 15 percent stake in Howaldtswerke- Deutsche Werft (HDW) by October 1. The move follows a surprise takeover of the shipyard by U.S.-based One Equity Partners last month who freed the yard from the control of ailing engineering firm Babcock Borsig. The head of MAN unit Ferrostaal AG, reportedly told a news conference that the firm agreed to buy a 15 percent stake offered by One Equity soon after it gained control of 75 percent of HDW's shares. HDW is the world's leading producer of non-nuclear submarines. One Equity said it bought the controlling stake as a financial investment.

MAN Diesel Establishes New York Service Center

MAN Diesel has extended its capabilities to provide after-sales service to all customers calling on the east coast ports. H.W. Ramberg Incorporated (HWR) is aimed to enhance MAN Diesel’s technical and support with its personnel and equipment. HWR’s 80 years of service experience in the maritime community, over 35 years as an MAN Diesel Authorized Repair Shop for reconditioning and exchange, will continue to provide support to MAN Diesel’s customers. The agreement was expanded upon the acquisition in 1979 of B&W by the MAN AG Group. HWR thus became an Authorized Repair Shop for Augsburg, Germany and Copenhagen, Denmark, which has continued to present day.

MAN Diesel SE – A New European Company

MAN Aktiengesellschaft is intending to convert its Diesel Engines Business Area into a European Company (Societas Europaea) in the course of this year. At the same time, MAN B&W Diesel AG in Augsburg is to be renamed "MAN Diesel SE". "In a European Company we will think and act on an even more international scale, which is absolutely essential in the face of global competition," explained Håkan Samuelsson, Executive Board Chairman of MAN AG, at a press conference in Munich. A Societas Europaea (SE) is a corporate form under European law. This new legal form will allow for stronger integration of MAN´s international business activities. The MAN Diesel SE boards will be international bodies.

Deputy Chairman of the Board of MAN Hands Over Reins

Fritz Pape, Deputy Chairman of the Board of MAN Diesel SE, retired on October 31. Pape has been part of the company since 1966, having spent 13 years as a Member of the Board. His successor, Dr. Georg Pachta-Reyhofen has been in charge of the company since July 1 in his role as Chairman of the Board. He is also a Director of MAN AG, Munich. After his training to become an engine fitter, Fritz Pape studied production engineering at the State School for Mechanical Engineering in Düsseldorf. Following graduation as an engineer in 1966, he began his career as a production engineer at MAN. From 1973 onwards, Pape was responsible for the entire mechanical processing of diesel engines.

Reinert Joins MAN B&W Board

Large engine manufacturer MAN B&W Diesel AG of Augsburg is expanding its Executive Board. The company’s Supervisory Board has appointed Tage Reinert as a member of the Executive Board responsible for controlling. 1 September 2005 at the latest. The other members of the company’s Executive Board include the Chairman of the Executive Board of MAN AG, Håkan Samuelsson, who serves as working chairman, Fritz Pape as deputy chairman, Dr. Stefan Spindler, Dr. Peter Sunn Pedersen and Dr. Stephan Timmermann. Tage Reinert comes to the company from the Danish mobile telephone operator Sonofon in Copenhagen, where he served as Executive Vice-President and CFO from 1999 and more recently held the position of Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for a period of one year.

Paefgen Named Chairman of ZF's Supervisory Board

The Supervisory Board of ZF Friedrichshafen AG appointed Dr.-Ing. Franz-Josef Paefgen as its new chairman, at an extraordinary meeting on December 4, 2017. Paefgen, a member of the Supervisory Board since 2008, will succeed Prof. Dr. Giorgio Behr. Since 1976, Paefgen has held various managerial positions in the automotive industry. From 1995 until 2002, he was member of the Board of Audi AG, and from 1997, he was chairman of the Board of Management. From March 2002, he was responsible for the Bentley brand, and as chief representative of Volkswagen AG, was also responsible for Volkswagen's Corporate Research and Motorsports. Between 2003 and 2005, Paefgen was head of Bugatti Engineering GmbH. From 2007 up to his retirement in 2011, he was president of Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S.

ZF CEO Sommer Steps Down

ZF Friedrichshafen AG chief executive officer Dr. Stefan Sommer has left the company after five years at the head. Finance Board Member and CEO Deputy Representative, Dr. Konstantin Sauer, will fill in as CEO on an interim basis. The news follows the company's recent appointment of Dr.-Ing. Franz-Josef Paefgen as its new chairman.

MAN & Statoil Sign Turbo-machinery Agreements

MAN Diesel & Turbo, Switzerland, signs to provide Norway's Statoil with new subsea compressor equipment & maintenance services. The Zurich-based MAN Diesel & Turbo Schweiz AG and Statoil have followed a joint subsea compressor qualification programme since 2005. In early 2011 Aker Solutions ASA, Statoil’s main contractor for the Asgard subsea project, awarded a contract to MAN to build the world's first subsea compressors for gas production on the sea floor. "The currently signed framework agreement is another milestone in our partnership with Statoil," said Dr. Uwe Lauber, CEO of MAN Diesel & Turbo Schweiz AG and Head of the Oil & Gas Business Unit. "The previous joint development of subsea compression technology was built on trust and mutual respect.

MAN B&W Names New Technical Director

Dr. Georg Wachtmeister, Technical Director of MAN B&W Diesel AG, takes over professorship for internal combustion engines at the renowned Munich Technical University as of April 1, 2004. This means that Dr. Wachtmeister returns to the place of his studies. Until 1989, prior to his change to the MAN B&W Diesel development division, he was the assistant of Professor Gerhard Woschni. The new Technical Director of MAN B&W Diesel for medium-speed large-bore diesel engines is Dr. Ralf Marquard, former Division Manager of the AVL Group in Graz, Austria. Dr. Wachtmeister takes over the vacant chair of his Dissertation Supervisor, Professor Woschni, who passed away last year. Prof. Woschni was regarded as one of the most important scientists in the field of engineering worldwide.

Merger of MAN Diesel and MAN Turbo

MAN Diesel SE and MAN Turbo AG are to work more closely together in future with the aim of forming a merger with each other under corporate law. By combining the product portfolios, the merged company will strive for further growth and a stronger position in its respective market segments. “This will allow the MAN Group to combine the engine and power plant expertise of the Diesel Engines business area with the compressor and turbine technology of the Turbomachinery business area to form a strong Power Engineering unit for the long term,” said Håkan Samuelsson, Chairman of the Executive Board of MAN SE. MAN Diesel provides large-bore diesel engines for use in ships and power plants, while MAN Turbo specializes in the development and construction of compressors, gas and steam turbines.

Engineering companies Alstom of France and MAN of Germany have agreed terms for the acquisition by MAN of ALSTOM's Diesel engines business. Through this acquisition, the MAN Group will strengthen its activities in the field of large Diesel engines. MAN B&W Diesel AG, Augsburg, will take over ALSTOM Engines Ltd. of the U.K. with its brands Ruston, Paxman and Mirrlees Blackstone. ALSTOM Engines Ltd. supplies on a worldwide scale medium and high speed Diesel and gas-fueled engines with outputs ranging from 500 kW to 15,000 kW, which are primarily incorporated into fast ferries, navy and coast guard ships, luxury yachts, locomotives, power stations and packaged generator sets. Alstom Engines Ltd.

Advanfort Issues Statement on Release of 'Seaman Guard Ohio' Crew

AdvanFort: the firm is delighted that an Indian appeals court has acquitted and released the 35 crew members and security personnel who were aboard the MV Seaman Guard Ohio when it was illegally detained on October 12, 2013. The Indian Government’s unlawful seizure of the Seaman Guard Ohio and four-year imprisonment of these men on unfounded charges was a gross violation of international law and basic human rights. New Propulsion Plants for Cruise Vessel

The cruise vessel Black Watch, built in Helsinki in 1972, will be equipped with a completely new MAN B&W Diesel propulsion plant. On April 19, 2005, the Black Watch of the Red Band AS Shipping company, Norway, will arrive at the Blohm + Voss shipyard in Hamburg, where she will be completely renewed within a period of only 57 days, including a 2-day sea trial. Conversion and modernization work is focused on a reduction of the noise and vibration levels, as well as on clearly lower fuel consumption rates of new, state-of-the-art propulsion engines. The shipping company, which is mainly known on the British cruise market, has therefore decided in favor of four new MAN B&W 7L32/40 Diesel engines for the propulsion of the BLACK WATCH.

MAN Diesel & Turbo Makes Executive Board Appointment

The Supervisory Board of MAN Diesel & Turbo SE has appointed Arnd Löttgen to the Executive Board with effect from 1 September 2012. Arnd Löttgen will be responsible for the newly formed Strategic Business Unit Engines, in which the production of four-stroke engines and the turbocharger business are being brought together. In his capacity as Chief Manufacturing Officer he will also have a cross-departmental role that covers all the strategic business units and includes responsibility for company-wide production strategy. “The enlargement of our Executive Board and reorganisation of roles will provide an important foundation for the future success of our company and further growth,” says René Umlauft, CEO of MAN Diesel & Turbo SE.

First GL Approved Oil Mist Separator

Merger Complete: MAN Diesel & Turbo SE

The merger announced between MAN Diesel SE and MAN Turbo AG to form MAN Diesel & Turbo SE, based in Augsburg, is now complete, the corresponding entry having been made in the register of companies. The process of amalgamating the two former MAN sister companies into one enterprise has thus been achieved. In economic terms, the merger has come into effect retroactively as of 1 January 2010. MAN Diesel UK, MAN Turbo Merge

With immediate effect, Stockport based MAN Diesel Ltd and its sister company MAN Turbo (UK) Ltd have merged operations in the UK to form a new organization, MAN Diesel & Turbo UK Ltd. All administration and finance departments from both companies have been centralized at the newly built MAN Diesel & Turbo UK head office complex in Stockport, Cheshire.  Also, as part of this merger, a new MAN Diesel & Turbo UK Sales office has been opened in Redhill, Surrey.  The merger of the two UK operations into one organization, follows the announcement of the integration of the individual parent companies, MAN Diesel SE and MAN Turbo AG.  The Headquarters of MAN Diesel & Turbo SE is based in Augsburg, Germany.  

MAN Brings Latest Tech to Marintec

MAN Diesel & Turbo has brought its new 45/60CR and ME-LGI engines, as well as its innovative HP-SCR emissions reduction technology to Marintec 2017, which is being held this week in Shanghai. MAN recently revealed its new flagship engine, the successor to its 48/60CR engine in the company’s 4x line of high-performance diesel engines. The MAN 45/60CR marine diesel engine will initially be available as 12V and 14V versions that boast power outputs, of 15,600 and 18,200 kW respectively, with inline versions following at a later stage.

MAN B&W Acquires Alstom Engines

Effective June 9, MAN B&W Diesel has acquired the Alstom Engines business, and effective immediately the Alstom Diesel engine business was renamed MAN B&W Diesel Ltd. with its headquarters in Stockport, Cheshire. Dr. Hans-J. Schulte, President of MAN B&W Diesel, stated: "We welcome the new British members of the MAN B&W Diesel team to the MAN family. The U.K. company manufactures diesel engines under the Mirrlees Blackstone, Ruston and Paxman brand names. The existing engine programs - which will continue to be strongly marketed according to the company - are complementary to the extensive range of engines in the power bracket between 500 and 68,640 kW being designed and produced by the MAN B&W Diesel Group at its other locations in Europe.

Second in Hellespont Product Series Named

The second in the series of six panamax product carriers under construction for Hellespont Hammonia was named at New Century Shipbuilding Co Ltd (NCS) in Jingjiang, China. Hellespont Progress follows the first in the series, Hellespont Pride, named in July. The sponsor of the Hellespont Progress was M Matsui, wife of the President and CEO of The Sanko Steamship Co. Ltd, Tokyo, Japan, charterers of the vessel. The ceremony was attended by representatives of HCI Capital AG and their placement partners EFC AG, the lending bank Hypovereinsbank, Hamburg shipowner Peter Doehle Schiffahrts-KG, and the classification society, ABS. The 73,400 dwt Hellespont Progress is 750 ft. (228.6 m) and is 38,000 grt on a scantling draft of 46.9 ft.
