V.Ships Wins Contract with Pertamina
V.Ships Offshore, part of V.Group, has been awarded the contract to provide operations and full technical management of the floating storage and offloading (FSO) vessel – Pertamina Abherka in Indonesia. This is the second vessel owned by Pertamina International Shipping to be managed by V.Ships Offshore. Keppel Clinches FPSO Conversion Contract
Keppel Shipyard, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Keppel Corporation Ltd, has secured a Floating Production Storage & Offloading (FPSO) hull conversion contract worth S$84 million from Marathon Petroleum Company (Norway) on MST Odin. The 87,000 dwt multi-purpose shuttle tanker arrived at Keppel Shipyard for the fast track hull conversion on 19 March. Odin will undergo hull upgrading and modification works which involve procurement, construction and installation of the FPSO hull equipment, including shipboard marine systems, cargo, ballast, inert gas, crude oil washing, fire fighting and electrical and instrumentation. Husky Energy Agrees To Acquire Marathon Canada
Husky Energy, through a wholly owned subsidiary, has agreed to acquire all of the issued and outstanding shares of Marathon Canada Limited and the Western Canadian assets of Marathon International Petroleum Canada, Ltd. The total purchase price is $588 million (U.S.). Production from Marathon Canada is approximately 27,000 gross barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d). The effective date of the transaction is October 1, 2003. In a separate transaction, Husky has agreed to sell certain of the Marathon Canada oil and gas properties with gross production of approximately 7,500 boe/d to a third party for a sale price of $320 million (U.S.). The assets to be retained by Husky are properties located primarily in northern and southern Alberta and northeastern British Columbia.
MPA Pumps $8.9 Mln More into Singapore's LNG Bunkering
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has injected another S$12 million (US$8.9 million) to boost liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering in the Port of Singapore. Half of this S$12 million has been set aside to co-fund the building of new LNG bunker vessels to facilitate the development of ship-to-ship LNG bunkering in the Port of Singapore. Island Oil & Gas Begins Drilling Operations
Island Oil & Gas plc has spudded well 48/23-3 at Seven Heads West in the Celtic Sea offshore Ireland. The well is the first in its planned 2006 and 2007 drilling programs. Well 48/23-3 is designed to appraise a possible extension of the Upper Wealden gas sands that are producing gas in the 48/24-6 production well immediately to the east. The well, which is in a water depth of 329 feet, will be drilled to a planned total depth of 3,200 feet TVD ss. Island concluded a Sub-Area Equity Interest Assignment Agreement for the Seven Heads West area with Marathon International Petroleum Hibernia Limited, through its wholly-owned subsidiary Marathon Seven Heads Limited (formerly Ramco Celtic Sea Ltd) in February 2006.

Trinity Marine Products held a barge launching ceremony recently at its Madisonville, La., barge-building facility. The barge launch marks the completion of the first tank barge manufactured by Trinity Marine Products for Marathon Ashland Petroleum, LLC, as part of a new five-year contract between the companies. Trinity Marine Products signed a five-year contract with Marathon Ashland Petroleum in July 2002. Six barges will be completed in 2003, with an option to manufacture nine additional tank barges by 2006. Marathon will use the barges for transporting refined petroleum products. NPCT1 to Develop New CT in Jakarta
PT. Pelabuhan Indonesia II (Persero) (“IPC”), Mitsui & Co, Ltd. Marathon Traders Gain E.Coast foothold with Hess Deal
Marathon Petroleum Corp is poised to expand its growing Midwest and Gulf Coast fuel trading operation to the East Coast with Thursday's deal to buy Hess Corp's retail network and transport contracts. The purchase will give Marathon control of Hess's gasoline stations and access to pipelines, including the capacity to ship approximately 40,000 barrels per day on the sought-after Colonial Pipeline from the Gulf Coast to the East Coast, according to the companies. The $2.9 billion deal is expected to close late in the third quarter. That likely means opening up new trading opportunities. Marathon's nearest refinery is nearly 500 miles east of New York City in Canton, Ohio, with few major pipelines in between.

Horizon Offshore Names Frank as Chairman of the Board
Horizon Offshore, Inc. announced the board of directors has elected J. Louis Frank as chairman of the board of the Houston-based marine construction company. Replacing outgoing chairman, James Devine, a UK national, with Frank, a U.S. citizen, allows Horizon to meet certain U.S. regulatory requirements relevant to a recently awarded contract. Mr. Devine remains a member of the board of directors. J. Louis "Corky" Frank joined the board of directors at Horizon in July 2001. Frank has extensive oil and gas and management experience, having held numerous positions of responsibility over 43 years with Marathon Oil Company, including service as president of Marathon Ashland Petroleum. He retired from Marathon in 2001.

The US Coast Guard announced the winners of the Rear Admiral William M. Benkert Marine Environmental Protection Awards for 2006. In the large business vessels operations category, the winners are Ocean Shipholdings of Houston; Marathon Petroleum Co. of Ashland, Kentucky; and Matson Navigation Co. of Oakland. In the large business facility operator category, the winners are Dow Chemical Co. of Freeport, Texas; BP Cooper River of Wando, South Carolina; Odjfell Terminals of Houston; , and Todd Shipyard of Seattle. In the foreign business vessel operator category, the winner is BP Shipping of the United Kingdom. Crowley Christens MT West Virginia
Crowley Maritime Corp. today christened the MT West Virginia, its fourth new, Jones Act product tanker for the U.S. coastwise trade, in Philadelphia at Philly Shipyard, Inc. (PSI), the sole operating subsidiary of Philly Shipyard ASA. The West Virginia is LNG ready, meaning it can later be converted for propulsion by liquefied natural gas (LNG). West Virginia joins its sister ships, Louisiana, Ohio and Texas, which were received by Crowley in 2015 and 2016 as the first-ever tankers to receive the American Bureau of Shipping’s (ABS) LNG-Ready Level 1 approval.

Marathon Petroleum Repowers Three Towboats
When Marathon Petroleum wanted to repower its inland river towboats, the company turned to its Cat dealer Whayne Power to get the job done. Marathon had installed Cat 3606 engines on the inland waterways vessels in the early 1990s, and twenty years later was ready to repower three towboats with the successor to the 3600 engine series, the Cat C280. Starting in December 2013, Whayne Power worked with Marathon to repower the three vessels with Cat C280-6 engines, each rated at 2,548 bhp at 900 rpm. “Marathon Petroleum has been a proud Cat customer for decades and had great success with the reliability and durability of the Cat 3606 engines since the initial installation of the engines,” Lincoln Turnage, Whayne Power marine account manager noted.
Greenpeace Wins Bid To Delay North Atlantic Exploration
Greenpeace won its bid to delay oil exploration in the north Atlantic when a judge ruled the British government was failing to apply a European Commission environmental directive in allocating licenses. The government is considering an appeal against the judgment on the basis that it is not taking into account the Commission's Habitats Directive in issuing exploration licenses. A spokesman said the government had been planning to issue new licenses in its 19th round early in 2000, but this was likely to be delayed. Ten energy companies were also party to the case. These were: Texaco, Esso UK, Marathon Oil UK, Mobil North Sea, Enterprise Oil, Conoco Ltd, Statoil, Philips Petroleum Co UK, Elf Exploration and British Gas Exploration and Production.
