Military To Maritime: Connecting Veterans to Work Opportunities
Paul "Chip" Jaenichen, Acting Administrator at the Maritime Administration (MARAD) draws attention to a recent Military 2 Maritime information and recruiting session, hosted by the American Maritime Partnership in Jacksonville, Florida, to help steer veterans toward the opportunities available in the maritime industry. "We at the Maritime Administration (MARAD) are proud to be associated with an industry that doesn't just open its doors to America's veterans, but actively helps them navigate the transition to civilian careers. Through licensing and certification information, support for maritime academies, and our work with stakeholders, MARAD is actively engaged in making this transition easier.
Crowley Joins 'Caring for the Crew' Program
Crowley Maritime Corporation says it has entered a partnership with Future Care, Inc. to ensure that the company’s active mariners are receiving the best possible health care while at sea. The “Caring for the Crew” program provides 24-hour medical advice to crew aboard Crowley’s worldwide fleet of vessels. Mariners at sea operate in remote and sometimes challenging environments where emergency and routine medical care can be limited. But, Crowley’s partnership with Future Care gives them around the clock emergency access to on-call physicians and nurses 365 days a year. This program is in addition to care that mariners receive from the trained medical care providers aboard all of Crowley’s vessels.

Crowley Trains Kuwaiti Navy on the Z-Drive Technology
A Crowley Maritime Corporation team recently trained seven Kuwaiti Navy mariners in operations aboard the first of two newly built Z-Drive harbor tugs the navy will take delivery of this year. The 30-day training session was designed to help the mariners learn how to operate the new boat safely while maximizing its features and performance. The two 67-ft Z-Drive tugs were ordered by Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) and are being built by Rozema Boat Works, Inc., of Mt. Vernon, Wash. The first tug, Warjiya, was completed in April and the second tug is scheduled for delivery in Sept.
Craig, Reasoner Join Crowley Personnel Dept.
Crowley Maritime Corporation is continuing the expansion of its newly formed marine personnel department through the appointments of Scott Craig, director, West Coast/Alaska and Margaret Reasoner, director, East Coast/Gulf. Craig will have responsibility for the Seattle, Long Beach and Anchorage crewing locations that service operations from southern California to northwestern Alaska encompassing more than 70-crewed vessels and 800-plus mariners. Reasoner will have day-to-day responsibility for more than 65-crewed vessels and approximately 1,200 mariners in locations from Lake Charles, Lou.
