PPG, DNV GL Partner on Hull Performance

Protective and marine coatings manufacturer PPG said it has signed a collaboration agreement with classification society DNV GL focused on operational data analysis using DNV GL’s next-generation hull analysis methodologies.The two companies, which together will look to tackle the challenge of poor hull and propeller performance, will collect data and apply DNV GL’s methodologies to contribute to help PPG further develop its coating solutions.According to data published by the International Maritime Organization (IMO)…

Hempel’s Fouling Defence Product Hempaguard Applied to 500 Vessels

Leading marine coatings manufacturer, Hempel, announces - after only two and a half years on the market -  its award winning innovative fouling defence product Hempaguard has now been applied as a full vessel coating to 500 ships. This milestone was reached yesterday with the coating of a 61,614 dwt, 2011-built, container vessel. Environmental obligations are at the top of the agenda for all responsible shipping companies and Hempaguard was introduced to the shipping industry against a backdrop of rising bunkering costs, tightening environmental regulations and the introduction of mandatory Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plans (SEEMP).

Hempel Launches Hempasil X3+ Fouling Release Coating

Building on its Hempasil range of fouling release systems, marine coatings manufacturer Hempel has launched a new antifouling, Hempasil X3+, a biocide free, two-component, fouling release coating with a high solids content. Targetting improved fuel savings, Hempasil X3+ creates a smooth, low energy surface with fouling release properties via itd hydrogel micro layer that prevents fouling organisms from firmly adhering to the hull while retaining the self-cleaning properties of silicone. The product is a completely biocide free paint and has no impact on the marine environment which assists shipowners fulfil their obligations to the environment, Hempel said.

Hempel Celebrates 100 Years

Hempel kicked off the group’s centenary celebrations and invited customers from Greece, Bulgaria, Cyprus and Romania to a party in Athens’ Acropolis Museum on Saturday, May 9. Hempel has had a permanent presence in Greece since 1952 as Hempel Hellas General Manager, Keld Laursen explained, “For 63 out of the 100 years we have had our feet on the ground in Piraeus and Athens and we are very proud of this. New Antifouling Products from Hempel

Building on the GLOBIC and DYNAMIC range of antifouling systems, marine coatings manufacturer Hempel launched two new antifouling products for drydockings and newbuildings. According to Hempel, the new antifoulings aim to deliver fuel savings up to 3% and provide added flexibility to shipowners and yards. GLOBIC 8000 is a new hydrolysing self-polishing antifouling product that fits between the existing GLOBIC 6000 and GLOBIC 9000 antifouling systems. It builds on GLOBIC technology and incorporates Hempel’s nano acrylate technology which delivers a fine polishing control mechanism to bring the integral biocides to the surface at a stable rate ensuring a clean hull.
