WinGD Expands Global Training Network

Swiss based marine engine technology developer WinGD has expanded its global training network through a partnership with DCS POWER PTE LTD in Singapore to deliver training for optimizing engine performance and preparing crews for the fuels of the future.Located in Singapore, the new training partnership was commemorated on February 22. Preparing crews for the new future-fuel ready vessels will be delivered through a variety of both virtual and classroom-based training courses.

GE to Unveil 'Ecomagination' Marine Diesel at IWS

At the International Workboat Show, GE Marine will unveil its ecomagination-qualified 12-cylinder V250 Marine Diesel engine that reduces emissions by 50 percent to meet EPA Tier 4i and IMO Tier III emission compliance. GE’s breakthrough technology eliminates the need for a urea-based after-treatment emissions reduction system. In addition, the 12V250 engine offers increased power of 3,150 kW at 900 rpm and 3,500 kW at 1000 rpm while maintaining low life-cycle cost, reliability and fuel efficiency.

GE Marine announce successful testing of first 12V250 engine to meet upcoming EPA Tier 4i & IMO Tier III emissions without exhaust after-treatment. DOE Funds Research on Alternative Biofuels

Tomorrow, the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) kicks off a third summer season of alternative biofuel testing in an effort to further advance marine engine technology and find an alternative to fuel containing more than 10% ethanol as a result of its damaging effects on marine engines. The tests are funded by the Department of Energy which released a 2011 report on engines using E15 revealing performance issues like stalling, corrosion leading to oil or fuel leaks, increased emissions and damaged valves, rubber fuel lines and gaskets. These results reinforced the recreational boating industry’s concern that E15 is not a suitable fuel for boat engines.

Wärtsilä 34DF Recieves U.S. EPA Certificate

Wärtsila obtained certification of emission standard compliance from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for its Wärtsilä 34DF dual-fuel engines. It will enable Wärtsilä to strongly enter the American market with marine engine technology that offers operators and owners the option of using either diesel or gas as fuel. Wärtsilä, MAN Diesel & Turbo Continue Research Project

Two world-leading European marine engine manufacturers, MAN Diesel & Turbo and Wärtsilä Corporation, have agreed to pursue a large joint research project, the HERCULES-C project, as a continuation of the very successful HERCULES programs for the research and development of marine engine technology.
