Elemica to Acquire Optimum Logistics

Elemica has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Stolt-Nielsen’s subsidiary Optimum Logistics Ltd. Under the terms of the agreement, Elemica will acquire the full technology platform and the ongoing business operations of Optimum Logistics. operators, and freight forwarders. (GML) has secured ISO certifications in recognition of its Quality Management, Environmental Management and Occupational Health & Safety Systems. The ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007 certificates were presented to GML Global Director Jan Kielmann by DNV GL’s Business Assurance Country Manager for the Middle East Alireza Ramin Majd at the company’s head office in Dubai, UAE. GAC Marine Logistics adds Three

The GAC Marine Logistics (GML) team has expanded with three new positions, based in Dubai and Singapore, created to meet the needs of a growing business which has jumped five-fold since operations began in June 2003. Mr Tony Gennadopoulus has been named Regional Sales Manager based in GML’s global headquarters in Dubai. Tony will be responsible for promoting GML, the GAC Group’s unique ship spares delivery solution to ship owners and management companies in the Middle East and Mediterranean areas. Prior to this appointment, Tony has been with GAC for the past nine years as Business Manager, Logistics Services in Sharjah where he succeeded in securing major accounts in the offshore marine sector.

Tundra, GK Enter Security and Logistics Partnership

Marine logistics company Griffin Kinetic (GK) and Tundra Maritime Defence Services, (Tundra MDS) a maritime security provider, announced an exclusive partnership to provide logistics and security services to the international marine community. Soles Joins Glosten Associates

Peter Soles has joined The Glosten Associates as a Marine Consultant and will be supporting the firm’s ocean engineering and marine logistics projects. “Peter brings a broad knowledge of marine transportation policy, oceangoing vessel management and operation, voyage and cargo logistics, navigation, and tug/towing operations,” said Justin Morgan, PE, Glosten Principal. Prior to joining Glosten, Soles contributed to marine projects throughout the Pacific Northwest and Alaska for over 13 years as a tug operator and marine operations manager for two local marine transportation companies.

Global ship spares logistics specialist GAC Marine Logistics (GML) has opened a new office in Chennai, India to house a dedicated customer service team. The India Customer Service desk is led by Customer Service Manager Rajshree Kurup who has over fifteen years experience in the time-sensitive specialist field of ship spares logistics. The team works closely with other offices in the GML network located in Dubai, Singapore, Hong Kong, Greece, Rotterdam and Sao Paolo to ensure seamless delivery service.

Mitsui, Hoegh Establish EML

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (Tokyo) and Höegh Autoliners AS (Oslo) have set up a 50/50 joint venture in Europe, integrating the existing European short sea and logistics activities of both shareholders and of Euro Marine Carrier BV. The new company, named Euro Marine Logistics NV (EML), was registered in March 2011 and has its offices in Meise (Brussels), Belgium. EML is a common carrier and started trading in the second week of June. From the third quarter 2011, EML will operate 13 vessels in European waters, and will be among the top three vehicle short sea operators in Europe. EML's sea fleet includes small (750 cars), medium (1500 cars) and large (>3000 cars) vessels with the support and the backup of the parent companies’ deep sea services when using common ports or routes.

GAC Marine Completes Propeller Installation

Global ship spares logistics specialist GAC Marine Logistics (GML) has successfully completed a complex ships spares movement involving a 7.5-metre diameter, 28-ton propeller from Kobe, Japan, and 9-metre long, 13-ton shaft from Busan, South Korea, for Greece-based ship operator Atlantic Bulk Carriers Management (ABC). GML was entrusted with the entire operation, from receiving the propeller and shaft from the suppliers’ doors at their separate points of origin, through to fitting the shaft to the propeller before placing them in long-term storage at its dedicated warehouse in Singapore.

Hornbeck-Leevac Expands Tug and Barge Fleet in Northeast U.S.

Hornbeck-Leevac Marine Services has acquired the Spentonbush/Red Star Group marine transportation fleet for $28 million, and has entered into a strategic alliance with Amerada Hess Corp. in the Northeast U.S. market. The vessels acquired include nine ocean-going tugs and ocean-going tank barges. In addition to the acquisition of the Hess fleet, Hornbeck-Leevac has signed a long-term contract with Amerada Hess with the understanding that it will be excluseive marine logistics provider and transporter of petroleum products in the Northeast U.S. These vessels will be utilized primarily in the transportation of gasoline, and residual fuel oil between refineries, distribution terminals and ships lightering across the Eastern Seaboard.

Twelve Quays for H&W

Harland and Wolff has been nominated to provide vital elements of infrastructure for the new 12 Quays RoRo ferry terminal in Liverpool. The contract, placed by Transmarine Ltd. of Newcastle Upon Tyne, a market leader in marine logistics, calls for Harland and Wolff to construct both the pontoon and linkspan for the development. The pontoon measures 70 x 48 x 3.5 m deep with a weight of 1,200 tons, while the linkspan measures 86 x 14 x 10 m high and will have a weight of 500 tons. The project is scheduled for completion in August 2001. Once operational, the all-weather twin-berth facility will be used exclusively by the newly merged ferry operator, NorseMerchant, for six crossings per day to Belfast and Dublin and is expected to reduce voyage times by an average of 90 minutes.

GAC Opens Ship Agency Offices Australia-wide

GAC Group announced an expansion plan with the opening of 13 ship agency offices in major ports throughout Australia. The locations include Cairns, Townsville, Mackay, Gladstone and Brisbane in Queensland; Sydney (country headquarters), Newcastle and Port Kembla in New South Wales; Melbourne in Victoria; Adelaide in South Australia; and Fremantle, Dampier and Port Hedland in Western Australia. Each office will offer a full range of ship agency and maritime ancillary services. Announcing GAC’s latest move from the Sydney headquarters, Christer Sjödoff, GAC Regional Director, Asia Pacific says that it is the first time in the Group’s 51-year history that it has launched such a large number of offices in a single country within a span of just two months.

WSS China Expands Network to Tianjin

Wilhelmsen Ships Service (WSS) has announced the opening of a facility in Tianjin, China, taking the total number of WSS agency offices in the region to six, located in Shanghai, Beijing, Qingdao, Dalian, Ningbo and Tianjin. Liftboat Charter by China for Ezion

Ezion Holdings has secured a four-year period charter contract to provide a liftboat to be used by a state-linked power generation enterprise in China due to start working in the Yellow Sea in the third quarter of 2013 upon its completion. The first annual Turkish Ship Brokers’ Association Dinner (Bosporus 2012) will be held at the Haliç Congress Center, located in the historical district of Sütlüce in İstanbul on June 29, 2012. Sea Trucks Secures Contract in Nigeria

Sea Trucks Group said its principle Nigerian business, West African Ventures, has been awarded a contract for the provision of an accommodation vessel to a deepwater field, offshore Nigeria. The scope of work covers accommodation support services for 250 pax, as well as to provide marine logistics support for the execution of the turnaround maintenance work scopes during the turnaround project. Jascon 30, one of the group’s DP3 accommodation construction vessels, has been nominated for the scope. Jascon 30 is equipped with a 270 mT heave compensated main crane.
