MAN Expands Dual-fuel Methanol Agreement with CCS

MAN Energy Solutions and China Classification Society (CCS) signed a sub-agreement in line with the Strategic Framework Agreement (SFA) the two parties previously agreed in September 2023 in Beijing. The SFA, on ‘Decarbonization and Digitalization in the maritime industry’, is scheduled to last for five years.The new sub-agreement – the third such between the companies – covers MAN Energy Solutions’ new MAN L21/31DF-M (Dual-Fuel Methanol) GenSet designed at the company’s Danish site in Holeby.

AMSA Warns of Counterfeit Pilot Ladders

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) has issued as Pilot Advisory Note advising coastal pilots and pilotage providers about the existence of counterfeit pilot ladders and associated certification.In March 2019, one of AMSA’s Port Marine Surveyors identified a pilot ladder onboard a vessel which appeared to be non-compliant with the pilot transfer requirements. Wärtsilä Announces Restructure

Wärtsilä has announced plans to further streamline its marine business portfolio by divesting its Gas Solutions business unit.Gas Solutions is a provider of gas processing systems. However, the business unit has limited synergies with the rest of Wärtsilä’s marine product portfolio. Therefore, Wärtsilä plans to move Gas Solutions to the Portfolio Business in preparation for a divestment. Arcosa Marine Products Joins Green Marine

Arcosa Marine Products, a manufacturer of barges used to transport cargo on U.S. inland waterways, is the newest participant in Green Marine – the largest voluntary environmental certification program for North America’s maritime industry.Part of Dallas based Arcosa, Inc., Arcosa Marine Products manufactures dry cargo barges, including flat-deck and hopper barges for the transport of a range of products that include grain, coal, and aggregates. The company also manufactures tank barges that carry petroleum, fertilizer, ethanol, chemicals, and other liquid cargos.

De Nora Acquires Hyde Marine

De Nora said it has acquired Calgon Carbon Corporation's UV Technologies Division (CCUV), including the products, brands and assets of UV ballast water management systems (BWMS) manufacturer Hyde Marine as well as municipal and industrial water treatment brands RAYOX, SENTINEL and C3 SERIES UV.The acquisition was signed on June 7 and is expected to close on July 1, De Nora said.By combining De Nora BALPURE electrolytic disinfection (EC) BWMS and the Hyde Marine ultra-violet (UV) Hyde GUARDIAN BWMS, De Nora will offer both UV and EC BWMS over a full range of flows.

Caterpillar Marine has unveiled its second-generation Cat Marine Displays (CMD) used for monitoring all engine platforms, supporting different vessel applications for professional maritime use.The three CMD variants—Cat CMD5 (5” display), CMD8 (8” display), and CMD13 (13.3” display)—designed to provide operators easy access to current operating data and alarms for engines. The new displays are type-approved and environmentally sealed to be waterproof for a wide range of temperature operations.

ALE, Murphy Join for Offshore Services

UK-based ALE Heavylift and compatriot engineering and construction company J Murphy & Sons announced a new collective partnership to offer linear winch hire, pipe pulling and installation engineering services worldwide.As part of the agreement, ALE will also have access to equipment designed by Murphy subsidiary Land & Marine. Based in the UK, Land & Marine’s product portfolio includes pipe handling equipment such as rollers and rail bogies, as well as 800-metric-ton capacity liner winches.Land & Marine’s design is patented and allows socket passing under load as well as utilizing advanced hydraulic controls for accurate monitoring.

An Alfa Laval Smit Combustion system (FU type) is now installed at the Alfa Laval Test & Training Center in Aalborg, Denmark. The system, which adds inert gas production to the center’s already comprehensive range of full-scale vessel applications, will ensure that Alfa Laval remains at the forefront of developing and optimizing inert gas systems.Inaugurated in 2014, the Alfa Laval Test & Training Center is essentially a full-sized machine room on land, with equipment from all of Alfa Laval’s marine product groups installed in process lines as they would be on a commercial vessel.

ESG Sees Green With its Tier IV Thunderbolt Design

Eastern Shipbuilding’s forward-thinking inland towboat design now features CAT Tier 4 propulsion and aftertreatment. When Eastern Shipbuilding Group (ESG) introduced its cutting edge 4,000 hp Thunderbolt inland towboat designed around twin azimuthing AAA Propulsion electric V-Pod propulsion and diesel-electric technology back in 2015, the approach was collaborative, with input from operators, naval architects (Gilbert Associates, Inc. (GAI)) and propulsion OEM’s. In selecting the podded propulsion system for inclusion on the design, Eastern met with two inland owner/operators that had Z-Drive towboats, and others that didn’t. Starting as far back as 2013, listening to each and noting their concerns, it was decided that the V-Pod was the best solution.

Voith Completes First Major Marine Overhaul at New UK Facility

Voith Turbo, a manufacturer of a wide range of products for the marine industry, said it has completed its first major refurbishment project in a brand new U.K. facility. The complete overhaul of a 26-metric-ton Voith Schneider Propeller (VSP) has been carried out for Red Funnel, the Isle of Wight ferry company based in Southampton, at Voith’s Croydon workshop. The refurbishment follows Voith’s investment in specially designed jigs, fixtures, machinery and lifting equipment capable of handling Voith Schneider propellers, gearboxes and other ancillaries.

Scot Seat Names H.O. Bostrom as US Distributor

Specialist shock mitigation seating manufacturer Scot Seat KPM Marine has appointed H.O. Bostrom Company, Inc. as its official U.S. distributor. H.O. Bostrom, a 70-year-old, family-owned manufacturer of seating solutions for vehicles and equipment in the marine industry and other specialty markets, said it intends to broaden the range of its marine product line with the addition of Scot Seat Shock Mitigation Marine seating solutions. Established in 2000, Scot Seat is also a family run company, supplying products for use by rescue services, military operators, police forces as well as commercial boat operators worldwide. Its seats are produced in Ayrshire, Scotland and manufactured from marine grade materials.

Rigmarine Provides Custom Winch Package for Caspian Sea Topside

Lifting and marine product specialist Rigmarine said it has recently supplied a bespoke winch system for a multinational oil and gas company, a key customer in the Caspian Sea region. The riser pull-in system comprises 38t and 12t winches, in addition to key components such as hydraulic power units, tensiometers and multiple sheave assemblies. The winches will be used intermittently over a five-year period for riser and cable pull-in activities. They will be fixed onto an offshore platform upon delivery but can be relocated in line with the requirements of the project.
