VLS Environmental Solutions Acquires Plaquemine Point Shipyard

Marine services company VLS Environmental Solutions, LLC announced it has acquired barge cleaning and repair yard Plaquemine Point Shipyard (PPSY). Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.Based in Plaquemine, La., PPSY is located just outside of Baton Rouge and provides full-service barge cleaning and repair along the Mississippi River. Thyssenkrupp Acquires MV Werften's Wismar Shipyard

Two New Tugs for Abu Dhabi Ports

Abu Dhabi Port Company (ADPC) has purchased two newly built tugs from Sanmar shipyards of Turkey. The new Yenicay Class tugs, based on the same Robert Allan Ltd Rascal 1800 basic design-which are equipped with the latest technology and have a bollard pull power of 30 metric tons, will service both Mussafah Port and Zayed Port and complement Abu Dhabi Port’s existing advanced fleet. Management of these tugs falls under SAFEEN, ADPC’s marine services division. Designated Yenicay VI and VII the first unit will be heading for its new home with SAFEEN within a month…

The Many Missions (and Capabilities) of Weeks Marine

The almost 100-year old firm has many specialties, including the ability to construct innovative, complicated tonnage for its own purposes. The slowdown in barge construction in some sectors hasn’t dampened the need for specialty barges in other areas. In many cases, these mission requirements can involve the repurposing of existing tonnage using sometimes innovative and unusual design parameters. Such was the case when Cranford, NJ-based Weeks Marine (WMI) completed the conversion of an existing ABS deck barge into a loadline compliant, semi-submersible, all self-contained unit. Its first assignment involved transit to Canada for the launching of concrete caissons in Halifax, Nova Scotia for a new pier.

Damen Delivers Tug to Foyle Port

Damen Shipyards Group has delivered an ASD 2310 Tug to Foyle Port. The official handover of the new vessel – named Strathfoyle – took place at a short ceremony attended by the port’s staff, clients and stakeholders. Taking the position as most powerful tug at the port, the Strathfoyle marks a commitment to ongoing safe and efficient harbor assistance operations at Foyle Port. Foyle Port is in the North West of Ireland. Located at the south-west end of Lough Foyle, the port’s primary cargos are bulk goods arriving at the Lisahally Terminal and oil products that call at the LSS Oil Terminal.

Ezra Swings into Red in Q3

Ezra Holdings saw its net profit for 9M15 grow 50.6 percent to US$51.5 million despite a net loss of US$3 million for the latest quarter, as sluggish oil prices weighed on activities of the oilfield service industry. For the first nine months of its financial year, Ezra posted a net profit of $51.5 million, up 51 percent on the year, though revenue for the period dropped 3 percent to US$391 million, the services provider to the offshore oil and gas sector said in a statement. 9M15 revenue declined due to a 2.8 percent decrease in revenue from the group’s subsea services division and offshore support and production services division, partially offset by better performance from the marine services division.

Geo Shipyard Delivers Catamaran Survey Vessel

Geo Shipyard, Inc. has built and delivered a new Survey Catamaran Vessel, Blake, for David Evans and Associates Inc.’s Marine Services Division in Gulfport, Mississippi. The newbuild, delivered in October, features wave-piercing bows, Tier 3 Cat diesels, twin 55-kW generators, a full suite of survey instrumentation, an A frame for towing astern, a DTI survey winch and a stainless steel hydraulically operated survey strut with a moon pool and hydraulically operated door through the wing deck to lower the strut for side scanning. There’s also a bow crane for side scanning in shallow water.

DEA’s New 82-foot Survey Vessel Commissioned

David Evans and Associates, Inc.’s Marine Services Division commissioned its new 82-foot hydrographic survey and scientific vessel Blake in a ceremony held in the vessel’s homeport of Gulfport, Mississippi. At the ceremony, U.S. Senator Thad Cochran of Mississippi broke a Champagne bottle across the Blake’s bow. In addition to remarks by the Senator, Rear Admiral Gerd Glang, the director of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Office of Coast Survey and the U.S. National Hydrographer, and Mayor of Gulfport William Gardner Hewes spoke to attendees.

New Navy Contracts

Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding, Inc., Newport News, Va., is being awarded a $28,000,000 modification to previously awarded contract (N00024-08-C-2100) for planned and growth supplemental work for the accomplishment of the fiscal year 2008 Extended Drydocking Selected Restricted Availability (EDSRA) of USS Enterprise (CVN 65). The CVN 65 FY08 EDSRA is a ship depot availability of approximately 16-month duration. EDSRAs are similar to overhauls in that they restore the ship, including all subsystems that affect combat capability and safety, to established performance standards. Additionally, an EDSRA provides an opportunity to perform hull inspections and recoating, and other maintenance related evolutions below the waterline that cannot be accomplished while the ship is waterborne.

Superior Energy Services has relocated two of its facilities to better serve the oil and gas industry operating in and along the Gulf Coast. The company’s Marine Services Division and Concentric Pipe and Tool Rentals operations are now in New Iberia, La. Superior’s Marine Services Division, now located at 2917 Oliva Road, and Concentric Pipe and Tool Rentals, now located at 6203 U.S. 90 West, both hosted a luncheon and ribbon-cutting ceremony recently to celebrate the successful relocations.

Veolia Adds Deepwater Vessel to Fleet

Veolia ES Industrial Services announced the addition of the Viking Poseidon to its fleet of deepwater marine vessels. The vessel was delivered to Galveston Bay in February and has completed its first job in the Gulf of Mexico. The Poseidon’s design technology and equipment will allow for greater deepwater capabilities at a time when customers are calling for such services. The Superior Future has modern features, technology and design unique to its class including a 100-ton, 100-ft boom crane more commonly seen on larger vessels and a larger working deck and deckload. In addition, the vessel’s accommodations were designed and built with maximum comfort and efficiency for customer representatives. Two 265-ft liftboats will join ’s fleet in late 2008 to early 2009. The liftboats are complementary to ’s well intervention services and are specially outfitted to deliver production-related bundled services in support of customers’ construction, maintenance and production enhancement projects.

V.Ships Appoints Trivedi to Head V.Ships Agency

V.Ships has appointed Rishi K. Trivedi as Group Managing Director of the Marine Services Division’s worldwide agency business - V.Ships Agency. The move follows Shay Devine’s (former V.Ships Agency Group M.D.) appointment as Chief Executive Officer of V.Ships - Marine Services Division. Trivedi, who has been with the group since January 2000, joined V.Ships Agency UAE from Inchcape Shipping Services. Rishi holds commercial and LLB degrees from Bombay University. In a career spanning 29 years in the industry to date, he has been an active member of Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, the Executive Committee of the Nautical Institute UAE branch and a member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport UK.

Manitowoc Reports Record Results For 1999

The Manitowoc Company, Inc. reported record financial results for both the fourth quarter and full year ended December 31, 1999. This was the company's fifth year of record financial results and its 17th consecutive quarter of improved year-over-year earnings growth. Net earnings for 1999 increased 30 percent to $66.8 million, or $2.55 per diluted share, from $51.4 million, or $1.97 per diluted share, in 1998. Net sales increased by 16 percent to $805.5 million in 1999 from $694.8 in 1998. Each of the company's three business segments - foodservice equipment, cranes and marine services - reported strong year-over-year net sales and earnings gains.

Hext to Lead V. Ships Marine Services Division

As part of a Group re-organisation, V.Ships, the world's largest provider of ship management and related marine services, has appointed Richard Hext as Chief Executive Officer of the Groups' Marine Services Division. The move follows a restructuring of the Group into two operating divisions; Ship Management and Marine Services. The newly formed Marine Services Division will oversee all activities of the Group other than ship management, including commercial management, ship agency, consulting, travel, insurance, IT and various other support activities. Roberto Giorgi continues to head up the Ship Management Division, overseeing all cargo and leisure ship management activities within the group. Mr. Hext joins V.Ships from LevelSeas, where he was Chief Executive.

New Cruiseline Opens Offices in Seattle

The Majestic America Line, specializing in river and coastal cruising, has opened offices in Seattle. The newly formed line is operated by Ambassadors Cruise Group LLC, a subsidiary of Ambassadors International Inc. of Newport Beach, Calif. Majestic will have a staff of roughly 800, though only about 50 of them will be based in the line's headquarters at Fourth Avenue and Blanchard Street, company officials said.. The group was formed by merging Portland-based America West Steamboat Co., which was acquired in January, and New Orleans' Delta Queen Co., bought in April. It is expected to provide 75 percent of the annual revenue for Ambassadors International, which also operates a travel-and-events division and a marine-services division.
