Dongara Marine Delivers Its First Rescue RIB

ABS Signs on Maritime Fuel Cell Development Project

Ferry Stena Estrid Completes Sea Trials

Stena Line’s "next-generation" ferry Stena Estrid has arrived in Holyhead after completing sea trials and a five-week, 10,000 mile journey from China to the Irish Sea where she will begin service early next year on her inaugural route from Dublin to Holyhead.Designed by Deltamarin and constructed at the China Merchants Jinling Shipbuilding Weihai Shipyard in China, Stena Estrid is the first of Stena RoRo’s nine next-generation E-Flexer Ro-Pax vessels in a series which include five for Stena Line and several additional vessels that will be on long-term charter for other ferry operators.

Pronomar Equips Louis Dreyfus SOVs

Turkey’s Cemre Shipyard has contracted Dutch equipment supply company Pronomar to equip two service operation vessels (SOVs) ordered by Louis Dreyfus Armateurs for Ørsted with drying systems for the workwear of the technicians.The first of the two vessels, Wind of Change, has been using Pronomar’s equipment since June 2019 when it started servicing Ørsted’s offshore wind farms in the German North Sea.With accommodation for 90 people, this vessel is one of the biggest SOV’s in the offshore wind industry.After a successful delivery in April of this year, LDA commissioned Cemre Shipyard once again to build their sister vessel named “Wind…

Japan to Develop Fully Electric Vessels

Japanese shipping major Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) and three other compatriot firms have joined hands to establish a new company that will develop and promote zero-emission fully electric vessels.Asahi Tanker Co, a shipping company to transport petroleum, Japan's largest trading company  Mitsubishi Corp, and the shipping & marine supplier  Exeno Yamamizu Corp have joined MOL to set up e5 Lab Inc that will consolidate the technologies, know-how and network of the four major shareholders.e5 Lab will work to develop and promote the greater use of these relatively clean modes of marine transport, MOL said in a press release.There are a number of challenges facing Japan's shipping industry (see below)…

SKF to Showcase Marine Portfolio at Nor-Shipping

SKF and SKF Blohm + Voss Industries will showcase its combined range of solutions for the marine industry at the Nor-Shipping trade fair June 2-5, 2015 in Lillestrøm, near Oslo, Norway. At the show, SKF and SKF Blohm + Voss Industries will demonstrate a thruster exhibition model, which will enable visitors to see the full range of its associated products and services. Everything from the bearings, gear coupling and lubrication system, to the SIMPLEX-COMPACT seal and the propeller sleeve will be displayed. In addition, supplementary services, such as condition monitoring and alignment services, as well as SIMPLEX-COMPACT sterntube seals and an environmental monitoring system for measuring and recording emissions will be on show.

Danelec to Show VDR Tech at SMM2014

Danelec Marine, supplier of Voyage Data Recorders (VDRs), will showcase its DM100 VDR at SMM2014, located at Hall B6, Booth #623. It is the first VDR to be type approved and wheelmarked by BSH for compliance with the new IMO standard, which came into force July 1. The DM100 VDR features Danelec Marine’s SoftWare Advanced Protection (SWAP) technology, which stores all programming data and configuration files on a hot-swappable memory card. If the VDR unit fails, the service technicians remove the memory card from the malfunctioning unit and insert it into a replacement VDR.

Alfa Laval Now Offers Sustainable Solutions

Global marine supplier Alfa Laval now offers a set of sustainable solutions designed to help ship owners and operators comply with current and pending environmental regulations. Grouped under the conceptual name “Pure thinking”, the products will provide security as existing legislation is tightened, as well as compliance with new laws such as those that will regulate ballast water treatment. While most of the solutions can be retrofitted, incorporating them at the newbuilding stage will contribute to gaining DNV’s Clean Design class notation for the vessel under construction. “Long service at sea has given us a deep understanding of the marine environment and demands on the industry.

ZF Marine Named Supplier of the Year

ZF Marine has been chosen as one of Mercury Marine’s suppliers of the year. Each year Mercury Marine evaluates over 1,500 suppliers, and selects only 12 to receive this award.  AJ Halavacs, Pleasure Craft Segment Manager, and John Shea, Account Manager, both from ZF Marine were on hand to receive the award from Mercury Marine.  It was presented last month at the Mercury Marine Supplier Conference in Sarasota.
