Port Manatee Hires Tillotson as Chief Commercial Officer

TTI Appoints New President

Total Terminals International (TTI), the West Coast joint-venture terminal operator between Hanjin Shipping and Marine Terminals Corp., announced the appointment of James Kwon as its new president to replace current CEO Y.M. Kim, effective Jan.16, 2004. Kim leaves TTI to join Hanjin's management team in Korea as its senior executive vice president in charge of HR, strategic planning, new business development and general administration. Former Citigroup managing director, Kim led TTI for the last two and half year and transformed this JV into a significant terminal operator on the West Coast with a sharp growth in third-party businesses. “James Kwon brings years of industry experience to Total Terminals,” Kim said.

Marine Terminals Welcomes M/V Star Stratos

International stevedore and terminal operating company Marine Terminals Corp. celebrated the maiden voyage arrival of Star Reefers’ new M/V Star Stratos into the Port of San Diego on July 12 with a commemorative plaque, presented to vessel Captain Antonio Arriesgado, Jr., by Port Commissioner Michael Bixler. Built in Japan, the reefer carrier has the capacity for 6,000 pallets under deck and 100 containers on deck. During this maiden vessel call, MTC discharged 5,144 pallets of Australian citrus products for Riversun Export PTY, Ltd. MTC Site Manager Gary Oleson spoke about anticipated cargo volumes.

Port of LA Makes $6m Available for Projects

The Port of Los Angeles is making $6m available for projects that reduce air pollution generated by Port operations. The funding is a component of the 2006-2007 Port Air Quality Mitigation Incentive Program. An applicant workshop and vendor fair will be held on August 29 at 10 a.m. Deadline for submissions is October 24, 2006. The Port Air Quality Mitigation Incentive Program provides financial incentives for programs that will reduce air emissions that affect neighboring communities of Wilmington and San Pedro, as well as the surrounding areas. Proposals will be reviewed by Port staff and members of the Port Community Advisory Committee, judged on effectiveness and emissions reductions, and ultimately approved and awarded funding by the Los Angeles Harbor Commission.

Port of Los Angeles Commits $3.12m to Projects

The Board of Harbor Commissioners this week approved spending $3.12 million over the next year on 16 customer projects aimed at reducing air emissions. In total, over their lifetime these projects reduce NOx emissions by more than 1,000 tons, and particulate matter by nearly 30 tons. The projects were reviewed by the Port's Technical Advisory Committee and the Port Community Advisory Committee, and the final 16 were recommended to the Board for funding consideration. "We received more than 30 applications for project funding from our customers for consideration," said Geraldine Knatz, Port of Los Angeles executive director. "This shows the level of commitment we all have to reducing the air emissions created by Port-related operations.
