Marine Travelift Inc. announced that Newport Shipyard has purchased a customized 200CII mobile boat hoist for its Newport, R.I. facility. When it’s delivered this fall, the machine will join the 70-, 100- and 500-ton Marine Travelift hoists currently in operation. The new 200CII boasts the first top-beam extension on a Marine Travelift 200-ton hoist and has been designed to use piers that were dedicated to a 100-ton machine and to travel into an indoor workspace. According to Eli Dana, Newport Shipyard’s General Manager, the yard was facing two challenges that prompted the 200CII purchase. “We’ve had increased demand from commercial customers, whose vessels are too heavy for the 100-ton hoist and are more difficult to schedule for the 500-ton due to space restrictions,” Dana explained.

Ancora Marina in Neustadt, Germany, took delivery of a new Marine Travelift 75 BFMII mobile boat hoist, Marine Travelift Inc. announced today. Ancora Marina is located on the Bay of Lübeck in Schleswig-Holstein, northeast of Hamburg and southeast of Kiel. The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD) announce US$9.46-million to help improve 12 shipyards in 10 states. The grants, provided through the Small Shipyard Grant Program, foster efficiency and modernizations that allow shipyards to compete more effectively in the global marketplace. Acting Maritime Administrator Paul ‘Chip’ Jaenichen made the announcement at Jeffboat, LLC, one of the grant recipients, located in Jeffersonville, Indiana. “Improvements at our shipyards mean more ships can be built right here in the United States, which means more jobs for hard-working Americans,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx.

Jacksonville shipyard purchases a Marine Travelift 600C to compliment existing dry dock. The Commodore Point Facility at North Florida Shipyards, Inc. has been providing commercial ship repair and modernization support to customers for over 30 years. Marine Travelift Inc. recognized Ribeca Equipment Inc. as its newest dealership in South America. Created by Roberto Rizo Benedetto, along with his wife and two sons, the new company seeks to advance the Marine Travelift products throughout Venezuela, Colombia, Panama and Costa Rica. Rizo worked with Marine Travelift products for twelve years as the special projects manager with a South American machinery and equipment company. Marine Travelift Inc. delivered the world’s largest mobile boat hoist to Colonna’s Shipyard in December 2009. The new 1000C, capable of lifting 1,000 tons (2,200,000 pounds), is changing the way this Norfolk, Virginia-based shipyard approaches its business. Colonna’s Shipyard is located on the deep-water, mid-Atlantic Port of Norfolk, it features a 17,200-ton floating drydock, a 2,800-ton floating drydock and two marine railways. Such railways and drydocks have been the standard technology for handling large vessels that need repair, overhaul or conversion work out of the water.

Jason Johnson was promoted to North American Sales Manager for Marine Travelift, Inc. in Sturgeon Bay.  Johnson will be responsible for business development and marine sales in the Americas for the Company. Johnson was hired by Marine Travelift in 2008 as a Sales Engineer.  He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marina Management from the Maine Maritime Academy, and serves on the IMI (International Marina Institute) Advisory Committee.

Marine Travelift Inc. announced that Newport Shipyard of Newport, R.I., has acquired one of its 100 BFMII mobile boat hoists. The new machine joins another Marine Travelift hoist already on site. Located downtown on Newport Harbor, Newport Shipyard is Newport's oldest and only working boat and shipyard facility. Not only is the yard a major East Coast yachting hub, it also is host to the Newport-Bermuda Race. Eli Dana, Newport Shipyard’s manager and dockmaster, said the yard purchased the new 100 BFMII to replace an existing 70-ton machine.

Marine Travelift Inc. announced that Tampa, Fla.-based RiverHawk Marine has acquired one of its 300C mobile boat hoists, thanks in part to a Small Shipyard Grant from the U.S. Maritime Administration. The Small Shipyard Grants program is administered by the Office of Shipyards and Marine Engineering in Washington D.C. RiverHawk’s 7.5-acre facility on West Tyson Avenue in Tampa is located with easy deep-water access from the Gulf of Mexico. Marine Travelift, Inc. announced the promotion of Erich Pfeifer to Vice President of Business Development and Marketing. Pfeifer will be responsible for all industrial and government sales, as well as marine sales in the Americas. He will also oversee all Marketing efforts and activities for the company. Pfeifer was hired by Marine Travelift in 2004 as a Sales Engineer. He was appointed Manager of the Americas in 2006, and promoted to Director of the Americas and Marketing in 2009. Pfeifer was the 2008 recipient of the Marine Travelift President’s Award of Excellence, an award recognizing extraordinary achievement on behalf of the company. Pfeifer delivered the first order for a 1000 ton boat hoist, the largest boat hoist in the world.

Manitowoc Crane Group has acquired the Carrydeck line of mobile industrial cranes from privately held Marine Travelift, Inc. of Sturgeon Bay. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. The proposed acquisition was included in the company's 2007 financial guidance provided on November 28, 2006 that incorporates a 20 percent growth rate in revenue and low-teen percentage operating margin for Manitowoc Crane Group.

Marine Travelift, Inc. announced Canada's largest Marine Travelift mobile boat hoist is currently in service in a brand new, 15-acre workyard and boat storage facility in Richmond, BC. The state-of-the-art, $1.1 million, 220-ton capacity hoist, which weighs 125 tons, can lift boats from roughly 30 to 150 ft. Arrow Marine Services is a division of well-known Canadian trucking firm Arrow Transportation Systems. According to Brian Charles, general manager, Arrow'spurchase of the Marine Travelift hoist generated significant demand for a full-service shipyard and marine center.
