Maritime Developments (MDL), a provider of back-deck equipment for the subsea sector of oil and gas industry, has been awarded a contract to supply a complete pipelay spread and personnel for a flexible installation offshore Equatorial Guinea.The award comes from a new client, whose work scope covers the launch of a number of new wells in an existing network of drill centres in the West African basin, MDL said.The MDL spread will consist of the MDL Horizontal Lay System (HLS), delivered with a 4-track pipelay tensioner; an MDL Second-generation Reel Drive System and MDL’s integrated Track and Cradle System.The project is due to commence in Q3 this year and will be MDL’s fourth campaign in West Africa in 2019.

UK-based Maritime Developments Ltd (MDL), which designs, manufactures, and delivers machines to energy sector, said that it  has secured a flexible installation project offshore Ghana.The work scope covers an installation of a flowline using MDL Third-generation Reel Drive System, operated by the expert MDL Offshore Service team.The equipment was loaded out in components from MDL’s Peterhead, Scotland facility for road transportation to Cadiz, Spain to meet the Client’s installation vessel. European shipowners have widened the scope of the former European Community Shipowners’ Associations (ECSA) Piracy Working Group, now renamed ECSA Maritime Security Working Group in a move aiming to keep the European shipping industry abreast of maritime developments. According to ECSA, topics under the remit of the new working group range from piracy and armed robbery at sea to cyber security, as well as the humanitarian crisis in the Mediterranean, where European shipowners have taken center stage in the efforts to rescue migrants at sea.

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) informs that the  latest maritime developments will be the focus at the inaugural combined national shipping and domestic commercial vessel conference in Melbourne in November, 2014. AMSA Chief Executive Officer Mick Kinley said it was the first time a combined shipping and domestic vessel conference had been held by AMSA. “Maritime 2014 will bring together international, national and regional representatives who make up this important industry, from the largest ship to the owner operator of a domestic commercial vessel,” Mr Kinley said. It is the first conference hosted by AMSA since the commencement of the Navigation Act 2012 and the Marine Safety (Domestic Commercial Vessels) National Law Act 2012 on July 1, 2013.

The Arctic region is notorious for relentlessly harsh climates that make shipping operations grueling. But despite the many limitations these conditions present, Leiv Lunde, Director, Fridtjof Nansen Institue, says the outlook is optimistic for the Arctic maritime industry 10-20 years down the road. Lunde presented “Asia’s Rise, Arctic Change and Energy Trade: Myths, Realities and Implications for the Shipping Industry” at the 26th annual Marine Money Week in New York on Wednesday June 19. The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (MOMAF) said that the Korea Shipbuilders's Association (KOSHIPA), comprising nine major Korean shipbuilders, would subscribe a fund for technical cooperation projects amounting to $100,000, in order to enable developing countries to advance their shipbuilding industries in the International Maritime Organization (IMO) arena. KOSHIPA plans to contribute $50,000 to the fund by the end of this year, and add more $ 50,000 as of early next year. The contributions will be deposited in the IMO/Korea Trust Fund, which was established in June 2003 in accordance with the memorandum of understanding and was designed to assist developing countries to implement the provisions of the international conventions.
