Vitol’s Singaporean bunker operations company, V-Bunkers, has announced the imminent delivery of what will be Singapore’s first electric-hybrid bunker tanker.The vessel, Marine charge, features lithium-ion batteries and an automated Power Management System expected to achieve an estimated 10% reduction in GHG emissions.The design configuration enables the auxiliary engines to operate at the most optimal specific fuel oil consumption, while the energy storage system (ESS) performs peak shaving during low power consumption periods for usage of stored energy during high consumption periods.

ABS has been announced as the industry collaborator to build the Maritime Testbed of Shipboard Operational Technology (MariOT) Systems. The first LNG bunker vessel to be based in France has successfully completed sea and gas trials, marking another step towards the delivery and operational start-up.The new vessel, named Marseille, is TotalEnergies Marine Fuels’ second collaboration with shipowner Mitsui O.S.K. Two oil products tankers had collided off Singapore coast but the impact of the accident was not immediately clear, industry sources familiar with the matter said on Tuesday. The tankers were identified as Crystal Sunrise, chartered by Japanese liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) firm Gyxis, and Astro Saturn chartered by European trading house Trafigura. "We can confirm that the Astro Saturn is on TC (time charter) to Trafigura and is carrying fuel oil," said it's spokeswoman without elaborating further. According to data from Thomson Reuters Eikon, Crystal Sunrise is a Very Large Gas Carrier (VLGC) with a deadweight tonne (DWT) of 54,070 tonnes carrying Middle Eastern origin LPG.

Skuld Singapore  has reminded all members that Singapore has ratified the Wreck Removal Convention (WRC) which entered into force in Singapore on 8 September 2017. "As members will be aware, the WRC requires among other matters owners of ships over 300 GT to have in place insurance to cover the costs of wreck removal. The container ship Hanjin New York dragged anchor and collided with container carrier MSC Claudia off Singapore, say local media reports. The incident that occurred at around 6pm last Friday caused 11 empty containers to fall overboard, according to the Maritime Port Authority of Singapore(MPA). The Hanjin ship “dragged anchor" and contacted the bow of MSC Claudia, the MPA said in a statement in response to queries. "The Hanjin New York dragged anchor and contacted the bow of a Liberia-registered container ship, MSC Claudia. Ten 40-foot empty containers fell from Hanjin New York onto MSC Claudia's bow and one 40-foot empty container fell into the sea," The New Paper quoted MPA as saying.

The 9,000 TEU containership UASC Umm Qasr was designated “Green Ship of the Year” by the Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore. BP Singapore kept its spot as a top marine fuel supplier by volume for the eleventh straight year in 2014 at the world's biggest bunkering port, the Maritime Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said. MPA does not specify the volumes each supplier sells, but traders pegged the oil major's sales at around 400,000 tonnes a month, or about 10 percent of the country's monthly sales. Overall Singapore sold 42.4 million tonnes of marine fuel last year. This is slightly behind the sales volume achieved in 2013 at 42.7MT. Bunker traders sources have attributed the drop to more efficient use of ship-fuel systems, such as slow steaming and the slowdown of economic activities in Asia. While BP maintained its first position, the second to fifth positions remained unchanged from last year.

Due to the presence of haze, the Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore Port Marine in their Notice No.113 of 2014 dated 15 September 2014 have informed the the trade and shipping related companies that the visibility in the Singapore Strait and Port Waters could be significantly reduced. During periods of restricted visibility, shipmasters are advised to keep a proper lookout and navigate with caution. They are also advised to comply with the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea and in particular Rule No. 19, Rule No. 20 and Rule 35 concerning conduct of vessels in restricted visibility, exhibition of navigation lights and sound signals in restricted visibility, respectively.

A.P. Moeller-Maersk A/S plans to add more ships to its Singapore base after making the city-state its biggest hub after the headquarters in Denmark, Bloomberg reported, stating most of the new vessels will sail under the island-city’s flag. “Capitalizing on its strategic location, sophisticated port facilities and shipyards, Singapore has developed into a premier International Maritime Center where ships hub and essential ancillary services in shipping, commerce and logistics flourish,” according to the website of the Maritime Port Authority of Singapore.
