Wärtsilä In Dow Jones Sustainability Index

Wärtsilä has been selected as an index component of the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI), both in the DJSI World and DJSI Europe indices. S&P Dow Jones Indices, one of the world's leading index providers, and RobecoSAM, the investment specialist focused exclusively on Sustainability Investing, yesterday announced the results of the annual Dow Jones Sustainability Indices review. This year RobecoSAM invited 3,400 of the world's largest companies from developed and emerging markets to participate in its annual Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA). Launched in 1999, the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) are a family of indices evaluating the sustainability performance of the largest companies listed on the Dow Jones Global Total Stock Market Index.

Wärtsilä Selected to ESI Excellence Europe

Wärtsilä has been selected as a constituent of the Ethibel Sustainability Index (ESI) Excellence Europe with effect from 23 March 2015. This is a remarkable continuation to the recognition  Wärtsilä received from Forum Ethibel in September 2014, when Wärtsilä was included in the Ethibel EXCELLENCE Investment Register. The Index members are chosen from among those companies listed in the Ethibel Investment Registers. The ESI indices universe is composed of companies included in the Russell Global Index that display the best performance in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility. The Ethibel Sustainability Index Excellence Europe includes 200 top performing European companies in this field.

Wärtsilä Corporate Charity Funds African Primary School

Karika community in South Sudan gathered recently for the opening of a new primary school which is the first permanent school built in the community. The school initially has 307 students enrolled and it’s meant to be an example for the community. Developing education is crucial as 50 % of the country’s population is under 18 and much damage to the education system was done during the war in 2012. Marko Vainikka, Director, Corporate Relations and Sustainability at Wärtsilä, says that the project is a good example of finding the best way to impact communities in a positive way.

Wärtsilä to Support Crisis Management Initiative as Lead Partner

Wärtsilä, a leading provider of power solutions to marine and energy markets, has entered into co-operation with Crisis Management Initiative, an independent Finnish non-profit organisation, which works to resolve conflicts and to build sustainable peace. As lead partner, Wärtsilä supports the activities of CMI and creates partnership programmes with CMI in selected areas across the globe. CMI Chairman, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Martti Ahtisaari explains that corporate support is essential for CMI to grow and become more effective.
