LNG Marine Fuel Taking Hold in America: FMC Commissioner Speaks

In his speech at the LNG Export & Export & Infrastructure Conference Federal Maritime Commissioner Doyle gives insights on the consequences of the adoption of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) as a marine fuel in the United States. I am a Commissioner with the U.S. Federal Maritime Commission. The Federal Maritime Commission is an independent regulatory agency responsible for regulating the nation’s international ocean transportation for the benefit of exporters, importers, and the American consumer. I should emphasize that my thoughts and comments here are mine and mine alone – they do not reflect the position of the Commission, and they should not be construed to represent the positions of any of my fellow Commissioners.

Report Compares Inland Waterways Markets, Tech and Policies

"Inland Waterways and the Global Supply Chain" an International Conference Report on "SmartRivers 2006" is currently available at the Port of Pittsburgh Commission website www.port.pittsburgh.pa.us. SmartRivers is a coalition to benchmark best practices for inland waterways, on both sides of the Atlantic, and to help those waterways better integrate themselves into the global supply chain. “Benchmarking conferences were held in Pittsburgh in 2005 and in Brussels, Belgium Europe in 2006. James R. McCarville, Executive Director for the Port of Pittsburgh Commission. It set out the strategic similarities and differences of the US and European Union (EU) inland waterway systems.

Two Schools Named National Maritime Enhancement Institutes

Maritime Administrator Capt. William G. Schubert has designated two educational organizations as National Maritime Enhancement Institutes (NMEI). They are the Consortium for Navigation Support and Analysis (CNSA) at Marshall University in Huntington, WV, and the Global Maritime and Transportation School (GMATS) at the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY. The CNSA, under the direction of the Nick J. Rahall II Appalachian Transportation Institute at Marshall University, is composed of six academic, research and professional organizations.
