Envirocleanse to Install BWTS on CMB Vessel
Ballast water treatment system (BWTS) manufacturer Envirocleanse said it recently signed an Agreement with CMB/Bocimar to install the patented inTank BWTS aboard the Capesize bulk carrier, Mineral New York. The initial installation will be designed as a pilot study to reflect much of CMB's fleet and will include the treatment of a cargo hold being used in part as a ballast tank. Envirocleanse is currently undergoing both land-based and shipboard testing aboard the USTS Golden Bear with DNV-GL as the independent laboratory.
Envirocleanse Applies for BWTS Type Approval
Envirocleanse LLC recently submitted a Letter of Intent to the U.S. Coast Guard and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) indicating that the company will apply for Type Approval of its patented Envirocleanse inTank ballast water treatment system (BWTS). Envirocleanse, a division of Charter Brokerage, a BERKSHIRE HATHAWAY company, produces a BWTS called inTank, which combines a proprietary membrane technology for the production of the nontoxic, noncorrosive biocide hypochlorous acid (HOCl) with the U.S. Geological Survey patented “nozzle system” for dispersion in the ballast tanks. Seattle based marine consultancy, Glosten, is a strategic partner in this endeavor, holding the patent rights to the nozzle system and providing engineering expertise.
Kelvin Hughes Opens Second US Office
Kelvin Hughes Ltd, navigation solutions provider, has opened a Kelvin Hughes USA LLC Washington office, in Alexandria, Virginia. The primary role of the new office is to expand on the existing Kelvin Hughes business and presence in the US, providing a greater level of local sales and support for US-based customers. The company already has a service centre in New Orleans. Kelvin Hughes has three offices in the UK, where it has its headquarters, as well as regional offices in The Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Singapore and China. In addition to the SharpEye radar, Kelvin Hughes produces a range of navigation equipment, data services and paper navigation products for the commercial, military and leisure sectors.
Indo-China Ship Management Purchases Kelvin Hughes Radars
The Indo-China Ship Management Company Ltd. has purchased Kelvin Hughes Nucleus3 radars for the retrofit of two ships. The Indo-China Ship Management Company is overseeing the retrofit of a product tanker in Dalian, China with a Kelvin Hughes Nucleus3 6000 radar. The company has also retrofitted a cargo vessel in Cammell Laird Shipyard in Gibraltar with Kelvin Hughes Nucleus3 5000 radar. Both ships were retrofitted with the Kelvin Hughes radars in dry dock. Launched in 2001, Kelvin Hughes’s Nucleus3 uses the latest in radar technology and offers a wide range of sophisticated and flexible operating modes. ECI Acquires Kelvin Hughes
ECI Partners LLP (“ECI”), the UK mid-market buyout specialist, has acquired Kelvin Hughes in a $109.3m transaction out of Smiths Group plc, the UK listed technology company. Kelvin Hughes is a leading supplier of navigation products and services for the Naval and Commercial marine sectors. The purchase price comprises $100.9m which was paid in cash on completion of the purchase and a deferred payment of up to $8.4m depending on certain conditions being satisfied. Senior members of Kelvin Hughes management invested alongside ECI, becoming shareholders in the business. Halliburton Seeks to Replace Baker Hughes Board
Baker Hughes Incorporated today announced receipt of notice from Halliburton Company that it intends to nominate candidates to replace the entire board of directors of Baker Hughes at its Apr. 2015 annual meeting. The nominations followed discussions between the parties regarding a potential business combination transaction, and Halliburton's refusal to improve its first and only value proposal. Baker Hughes considers the notice to be an attempt by Halliburton to pressure the Baker Hughes board into accepting a transaction with Halliburton on Halliburton's terms. The discussions began after Baker Hughes received an unsolicited proposal from Halliburton without prior notice on Oct.
Date Set for Fifth Iridium NEXT Launch
Iridium Communications Inc. announced that the fifth Iridium NEXT launch has been targeted by SpaceX for March 18, 2018 at 8:19 a.m. PDT from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. The first of four launches planned for 2018, Iridium-5 will deliver 10 more Iridium NEXT satellites to orbit, bringing the total number of new satellites deployed to 50. This launch will use the same Falcon 9 first stage as the Iridium-3 launch that took place in October 2017 and begin a rapid-cadence launch schedule targeting completion of the Iridium manifest by mid-2018. "We are entering the home stretch," said Matt Desch, chief executive officer, at Iridium. "This is going to be a monumental year for us as we complete our constellation refresh.
Latest Offshore Rig Count
Baker Hughes Incorporated announce the international offshore rig count for January 2013 was 307, up 8 from the 299 counted in December 2012. The count is unchanged from the 307 counted in January 2012. The average U.S. offshore rig count for January 2013 was 53, up two from the 51 that were counted in December 2012 and up 10 from the 43 counted in December 2012. The Baker Hughes Rotary Rig Counts are counts of the number of drilling rigs actively exploring for or developing oil or natural gas in the United States, Canada and international markets. Baker Hughes has issued the rotary rig counts as a service to the petroleum industry since 1944, when Hughes Tool Company began weekly counts of US and Canadian drilling activity.
Kelvin Hughes Announce Saab AIS Deal
Kelvin Hughes is now able to supply both Automatic Information Systems (AIS) and Voyage Data Recorders (VDR), as part of its fully compliant integrated bridge systems (IBS). Saab Transponder Tech, following an original equipment manufacture (OEM) agreement between Saab and Kelvin Hughes, will supply the AIS. AIS systems are being made compulsory as part of the changes to SOLAS V, which go into effect in July 2002. The systems are designed to work in tandem with a ship’s radar system to improve the identification and location of other vessels. Kelvin Hughes had several criteria that were important when selecting a third party AIS supplier including early type approval and hardware availability.

GMPCS Places Order for Broadband Terminals
GMPCS Personal Communications placed an initial order with Hughes Network Systems for 1,000 HNS 9201 broadband satellite IP terminals for use with Inmarsat’s Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) mobile satellite service. The deal with Hughes makes GMPCS the first satellite communications service provider to place an order for the terminals that will usher in the new global broadband service anticipated to begin in late 2005. The capabilities of BGAN will include the delivery of Internet and intranet content and solutions, LAN and WAN connectivity, video on demand, videoconferencing, fax, e-mail, phone and local area network access at speeds of up to 492 kbps.
Halliburton & Baker Hughes Merger
Halliburton Company and Baker Hughes Incorporated today announced a definitive agreement under which Halliburton will acquire all the outstanding shares of Baker Hughes in a stock and cash transaction. The transaction is valued at $78.62 per Baker Hughes share, representing an equity value of $34.6 billion and enterprise value of $38.0 billion, based on Halliburton’s closing price on November 12, 2014, the day prior to public confirmation by Baker Hughes that it was in talks with Halliburton regarding a transaction.

Kelvin Hughes has expanded its international sales team to meet the growing interest in its range of hi-tech radar equipment for the commercial, military and leisure sectors. Ian Yuill has been appointed International Sales Manager and Peter Chahal and Wilko Smit have become Area Sales Managers. Yuill has a background in sales and marketing spanning over 25 years with companies such as Northern Foods, BT and BBL Medical. He joined Kelvin Hughes from US based software company, Compassoft, where he managed the European sales operation as Director of EMEA. Smit, originally from Rotterdam, served in the Royal Dutch Navy for six years as a Technical Specialist before working as a Sales Engineer for one of Kelvin Hughes’ main distributors.
OSI and Kelvin Hughes Collaborate

Kelvin Hughes has been awarded type approval for its NDR 2002 Voyage Data Recorder (VDR). The type approval includes two different crash survival modules (CSM), and has been awarded by QINETIQ formerly DERA. GE to Merge Oil & Gas Unit with Baker Hughes
General Electric Co said on Monday it would merge its oil and gas business with Baker Hughes Inc, creating the world's second-largest oilfield services provider as competition heats up to supply more-efficient products and services to the energy industry after several years of low crude prices. The deal to create a company with $32 billion in annual revenue will combine GE's strengths in making equipment long-prized by oil producers with Baker Hughes's expertise in drilling and fracking new wells.

70th Anniversary of First Type-approved Maritime Radar

Kelvin Hughes has been acquired by HENSOLDT (formerly Airbus Defense Electronics) as a result of an agreement by its owners ECI Partners to sell its investment in the company. “Following the buyout from Smiths Group, ECI has been a consistent and supportive partner as we have consolidated our position as a global leader in surveillance and security radar solutions,” said Kelvin Hughes CEO, Russell Gould.
