Envirocleanse to Install BWTS on CMB Vessel
Ballast water treatment system (BWTS) manufacturer Envirocleanse said it recently signed an Agreement with CMB/Bocimar to install the patented inTank BWTS aboard the Capesize bulk carrier, Mineral New York. The initial installation will be designed as a pilot study to reflect much of CMB's fleet and will include the treatment of a cargo hold being used in part as a ballast tank. Envirocleanse is currently undergoing both land-based and shipboard testing aboard the USTS Golden Bear with DNV-GL as the independent laboratory.
Envirocleanse Applies for BWTS Type Approval
Envirocleanse LLC recently submitted a Letter of Intent to the U.S. Coast Guard and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) indicating that the company will apply for Type Approval of its patented Envirocleanse inTank ballast water treatment system (BWTS). Envirocleanse, a division of Charter Brokerage, a BERKSHIRE HATHAWAY company, produces a BWTS called inTank, which combines a proprietary membrane technology for the production of the nontoxic, noncorrosive biocide hypochlorous acid (HOCl) with the U.S. Geological Survey patented “nozzle system” for dispersion in the ballast tanks. Seattle based marine consultancy, Glosten, is a strategic partner in this endeavor, holding the patent rights to the nozzle system and providing engineering expertise.

Fishing Vessel Repowered after Big Hours
After 60,000 hours of service, crab fisherman Robert Ross decided that his 19-liter Cummins 1150M had earned a rest. The 500 HP engine had been a perfect match for his 72- by 26-foot aluminum boat so he ordered up a new Cummins KTA19-M3 at 500 HP, continuous duty, from his local supplier Cummins Sales and Service in Fredericton, New Brunswick, in eastern Canada. Ross had his well-maintained 39-year-old boat, the Kara-Matt, hauled out at a shipyard and Dugas Equipment Ltd. of Caraquet, New Brunswick took on the repower.

Kelvin Hughes Ltd, navigation solutions provider, has opened a Kelvin Hughes USA LLC Washington office, in Alexandria, Virginia. The primary role of the new office is to expand on the existing Kelvin Hughes business and presence in the US, providing a greater level of local sales and support for US-based customers. The company already has a service centre in New Orleans. Kelvin Hughes has three offices in the UK, where it has its headquarters, as well as regional offices in The Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Singapore and China. Indo-China Ship Management Purchases Kelvin Hughes Radars
The Indo-China Ship Management Company Ltd. has purchased Kelvin Hughes Nucleus3 radars for the retrofit of two ships. The Indo-China Ship Management Company is overseeing the retrofit of a product tanker in Dalian, China with a Kelvin Hughes Nucleus3 6000 radar. The company has also retrofitted a cargo vessel in Cammell Laird Shipyard in Gibraltar with Kelvin Hughes Nucleus3 5000 radar. Both ships were retrofitted with the Kelvin Hughes radars in dry dock. Launched in 2001, Kelvin Hughes’s Nucleus3 uses the latest in radar technology and offers a wide range of sophisticated and flexible operating modes. Halliburton Seeks to Replace Baker Hughes Board
Baker Hughes Incorporated today announced receipt of notice from Halliburton Company that it intends to nominate candidates to replace the entire board of directors of Baker Hughes at its Apr. 2015 annual meeting. The nominations followed discussions between the parties regarding a potential business combination transaction, and Halliburton's refusal to improve its first and only value proposal. Baker Hughes considers the notice to be an attempt by Halliburton to pressure the Baker Hughes board into accepting a transaction with Halliburton on Halliburton's terms. Kelvin Hughes Announce Saab AIS Deal
Kelvin Hughes is now able to supply both Automatic Information Systems (AIS) and Voyage Data Recorders (VDR), as part of its fully compliant integrated bridge systems (IBS). Saab Transponder Tech, following an original equipment manufacture (OEM) agreement between Saab and Kelvin Hughes, will supply the AIS. AIS systems are being made compulsory as part of the changes to SOLAS V, which go into effect in July 2002. The systems are designed to work in tandem with a ship’s radar system to improve the identification and location of other vessels. Kelvin Hughes had several criteria that were important when selecting a third party AIS supplier including early type approval and hardware availability.

Ian Yuill has been appointed International Sales Manager and Peter Chahal and Wilko Smit have become Area Sales Managers. Yuill has a background in sales and marketing spanning over 25 years with companies such as Northern Foods, BT and BBL Medical. Qinetiq Type Approves Kelvin Hughes VDR
Kelvin Hughes has been awarded type approval for its NDR 2002 Voyage Data Recorder (VDR). The type approval includes two different crash survival modules (CSM), and has been awarded by QINETIQ formerly DERA. The type approval is unique as Kelvin Hughes is the only company offering two crash survival modules with type approval in its VDR. One is manufactured by L#, the other by Smiths Aerospace of which Kelvin Hughes is the marine systems business. OSI and Kelvin Hughes Collaborate

Baker Hughes Incorporated announce the international offshore rig count for January 2013 was 307, up 8 from the 299 counted in December 2012. The count is unchanged from the 307 counted in January 2012. The average U.S. offshore rig count for January 2013 was 53, up two from the 51 that were counted in December 2012 and up 10 from the 43 counted in December 2012. The Baker Hughes Rotary Rig Counts are counts of the number of drilling rigs actively exploring for or developing oil or natural gas in the United States, Canada and international markets. Baker Hughes has issued the rotary rig counts as a service to the petroleum industry since 1944, when Hughes Tool Company began weekly counts of US and Canadian drilling activity.
Halliburton & Baker Hughes Merger
Halliburton Company and Baker Hughes Incorporated today announced a definitive agreement under which Halliburton will acquire all the outstanding shares of Baker Hughes in a stock and cash transaction. The transaction is valued at $78.62 per Baker Hughes share, representing an equity value of $34.6 billion and enterprise value of $38.0 billion, based on Halliburton’s closing price on November 12, 2014, the day prior to public confirmation by Baker Hughes that it was in talks with Halliburton regarding a transaction.

Baker Hughes Rig Count Down 7
The number of rigs searching for oil and natural gas in the United States fell by seven to 1,225 during the week ending May 18, according to oil services firm Baker Hughes. Last year the number of U.S. rigs was 841, Baker Hughes said. Meanwhile, the number of rigs exploring for oil and gas in Canada gained 24, compared to 182 last year. The number of rigs in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico fell by four to 160, compared to 135 a year ago.
