Orsted, the world's largest offshore wind farm developer, is concerned the coronavirus may delay auctions for offshore projects as it prepares to enter the market, the head of its Asia-Pacific unit said. "The pandemic will not influence investment decisions and general confidence in offshore wind, but it could delay the projects' timeline," Matthias Bausenwein, president of Orsted Asia-Pacific, told Reuters in a telephone interview. "We hope that we won't see any major delays," he said.

Orsted Taiwan Ltd announced that it has signed a 20-year wharf lease with Taiwan International Ports Corp (TIPC) for the development of its offshore wind farms (OWF) off Changhua County.The global offshore wind leader announced the signing of a wharf lease and a 20-year operations and maintenance (O&M) lease with the Port of Taichung, managed by Taiwan International Ports Corporation (TIPC) and TIPC Marine Construction, respectively.The Ørsted leased wharfs at the Port of Taichung will be upgraded and utilized for the construction of the Greater Changhua offshore wind farms, and the O&M site will serve as the O&M base for Ørsted‘s Changhua offshore wind farms from 2022 onwards.Ørsted’s Greater Changhua wind farms are located approximately 35-60 kilometers off the coast of Changhua County.

Construction of Taiwan's Formosa 2, an offshore wind power (OWP) development project, officially broke ground in Miaoli County.Orsted Taiwan said in a statement that it held a ground-breaking ceremony for the onshore substation works for the 900MW Greater Changhua 1&2a offshore wind farm off Taiwan.Ørsted awarded an onshore substation EPC contract to TCC last November. TCC will build two onshore substations, cable corridors, and transition joint bays for the first 900MW Greater Changhua projects. The contract, with an amount over NTD 7bn, is being now executed by Star Energy Corporation (SEC), a 100% subsidiary of TCC.SEC has hired more than 60 additional employees since last year.

Ørsted, the largest energy company in Denmark, has secured nominal TWD 12 billion (USD 395m) through the issuance of green senior bonds, to finance its investments in offshore wind in Taiwan. This transaction marks the first ever green TWD bond to be issued by a foreign corporate in Taiwan. The bonds will be issued in accordance with Ørsted’s Green Finance Framework.Ørsted CFO Marianne Wiinholt, said: “We are very pleased with the completion of this historic transaction which is an important step in the financing of the Changhua 1 & 2a project. Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) has received the firm order from the Danish energy company and offshore wind giant Ørsted for their 900MW Greater Changhua 1 & 2a offshore wind power project in Taiwan.The project includes the Asia-Pacific variant of the SG 8.0-167 DD offshore wind turbine and a service agreement. As part of this firm order, Siemens Gamesa will establish a nacelle assembly facility at Taichung Harbor.The facility is expected to be ready in 2021, exceeding the local content creation timeline as set by the Taiwanese government.Wind turbine towers for the project will be supplied locally through the partnership between CS Wind and Chin Fong in Taiwan, meeting the official requirements for local content on wind turbine components.
