India Launches 4th Scorpene Class Submarine Vela
Indian Navy's fourth stealth Scorpene class Submarine Vela was launched yesterday (May 06, 2019)for trials at the Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL) in Mumbai.The launch of the submarine is a major boost for the underwater capability of the Indian Navy, claimed a press release. Vela is the fourth of the six Scorpene submarine that has completed the out fittings at MDL.The Vela submarine, the fourth of six underwater warships being built in India with French collaboration, will undergo a number of tests conducted by the Navy before it is commissioned in the defence fleet, an official said.Defence production secretary Ajay Kumar's wife Veena Ajay Kumar launched the submarine at Mazagon Dockyard in Mumbai.
India Launches Second Scorpene Sub INS Khanderi
India's second Kalvari class Scorpene submarine was launched into water - or 'undocked' - by the Union minister of state for defence Dr Subhash Bhamre at the Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL). The submarine will undergo rigorous tests and trials on the surface and underwater before it is commissioned into the Indian Navy as "INS Khanderi" at the end of the year in December. Admiral Sunil Lanba, Chief of the Naval Staff and a host of other dignitaries witnessed the launch. The submarine is named after a 17th century Maratha island fort. The stealth features of INS Khanderi are reportedly unmatched by many submarines. The attack can be launched with torpedoes, as well as with tube-launched anti-ship missiles, while underwater or on surface.
Indian Sub Kalvari Undergoes Sea Trials
‘Kalvari’ (Tiger Shark), the first of the Scorpene-class submarines, went to sea for the first time on Sunday marking the commencement of sea trials. The submarine sailed out at about 10 am under her own propulsion for the first sea trial, off the Mumbai coast. Kalvari is the first of the India's six Scorpene-class submarines being built under the much-delayed Project 75. The vessels are being built by Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL) Mumbai in collaboration with French company DCNS. She is part of the ongoing project for constructing six Scorpene class submarines, in collaboration with DCNS, which will include transfer of technology to MDL. Kalvari is expected to be commissioned by the end of September. It is 67-metres long and 6.2-metres wide and displaces 1500 tons.
India's First Indigenously Built Attack First Scorpene Submarine Launched Into Water
Indian Navy's first Scorpene class stealth submarine, Kalvari, on Monday was undocked at the Mazagon Docks Limited (MDL) in Mumbai. The diesel-electric vessel INS Kalvari was built by Mazagon Dock Limited in collaboration with France’s DCNS, and it will now undergo sea trials before being formally handed over to the Navy in September next year. The launch of the submarine was witnessed by Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral RK Dhowan and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, amongst others. After the launch of the Kalvari, Parrikar called for the staff and workers present at the docks to help make the Indian Navy a true 'Blue water Navy', and urged the defence public sector yards to double their production in the coming three years.
VOSTA LMG Signs with Indian Mazagon Dock
VOSTA LMG received a contract from Indian Partner Shipyard Mazagon Dock Limited for the supply of an engineering & components package for a 1500 kW cutter suction dredge (CSD). It is the first time ever that such a Giant CSD will be built at a shipyard in India. The order for this cutter suction dredge has been awarded to Mazagon Dock Limited by Dredging Corporation of India. The large-sized cutter suction dredge is especially designed for dredging rock with an unconfined compressive strength of 40 MPa. It will also have a spud system, which has been designed by VOSTA LMG for hydraulic advance and positioning of the dredge, enabling to operate even in swell. A parallel rope guide, which is tensioned hydraulically reduces load peaks.
Indian Navy Orders Six Subs
A contract was signed in New Delhi for the construction of six Scorpene submarines, that will be built in Mazagon Dock Limited shipyards, in Mombay. The French-Spanish consortium will provide engineering, technical assistance, training and specific equipment, being Navantia responsible for the aft parts of the six submarines, as it is been done in other contracts as Chile and Malaysia. The six subs are slated for delivery in 12 years.
